Good luck to Rob and company!

We aren't the only ones that would make a case for Robert Pattinson to get a Best Supporting Actor nomination

We aren't the only ones that would make a case for Robert Pattinson to get a Best Supporting Actor nomination

I've tried to remain as objective as possible and I really do feel like a strong case could have been made for Rob receiving supporting actor recognition in The Rover. That race isn't as hotly contested right now as other categories and it would have been awesome to see Rob campaigning for a role he was exceptional in. This article popped up and echoed many of our sentiments around these parts. If you've followed The Rover Reviews on the blog, you know Rob's performance as Rey was widely applauded. From the Latin Post:
Oscars 2015 Predictions: Why "Twilight" Star Robert Pattinson Should Be Nominated for Best Supporting Actor This Year
The Academy Awards race is heating up with many front runner contenders. However, a number of categories are still up for grabs and a number of films have been ignored throughout despite great reviews and artistic achievements.
One of these films is "The Rover" by David Michod. Back in 2010, the director made a splash at the Sundance Film Festival with his film "Animal Kingdom." The movie went on to get an Oscar nomination for Jacki Weaver and the director became sought-after.However, when "The Rover" premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this past summer, reviews were positive but buzz was low.
When it premiered in theaters, A24 failed to really give it a decent marketing campaign and the box office results were not very good."The Rover's" results essentially ended any aspirations of an Oscar campaign, but now that pundits have noted that Supporting Actor race is empty, A24 should focus its energies on campaigning Robert Pattinson's masterful performance for the Academy Award race.
Latin Post raved about his performance and stated, "Pattinson is unrecognizable" and "unsettling."Other critics agreed with the Toronto Star stating, "This minimalist gem affords a chance to see ex-Twilight star Robert Pattinson at his dramatic best."
Pattinson may be young for the Academy to recognize, but his work is astonishing and the fact that he was able to crossover from mainstream films to Indie art house films shows his commitment to his craft.
Click HERE to continue reading. Major award nominations are pretty much out of the question since there isn't going to be a campaign for The Rover. We'll keep a lookout though for potential accolades in critics corners similar to Best of Cosmopolis 2012. After all, they were the ones that praised Rob's work so profusely.

365 Days of Robert Pattinson: Dec. 28 ~ Fave Movie Scene

365 Days of Robert Pattinson: Dec. 28 ~ Fave Movie Scene

Time to dish it! What Rob scene really blows you away and owns you??
 photo popcorn.gif

Kate:
"I’m gonna cheat here and go with 2. I know Tink has already picked this one but It’s also one of my fave scenes. I love that Rob said that Cosmopolis has funny parts in it because I thought there was something wrong with me when I was the only one in the cinema who actually laughed out loud when he shot himself in the hand. I should have been at Cannes when Rob actually wanted people to laugh ;-p Anyway this scene is a classic and is by far some of his best work (to date). I’m also choosing this scene in Bel Ami (sorry I can’t find a vid of it). I know you’ll know it when I describe it as the twirly scene ;) It just makes me smile everytime I see it. Yes I’m a sap and I know it! So there you have it 2 VERY different scenes but I love them both."

Tink:
"time for a philosophical pause. some reflection. yes. from the start to the finish, this is my favorite scene from all of Rob’s films. i was captivated by the verbal and physical ballet between Rob and Paul. what else. it was a final showdown and what we were waiting for. it didn’t disappoint. what else. the scene is brilliant and Rob has never been better. this is my sensibility. ;)"

365 Days of Robert Pattinson: Feb. 22 ~ Fave Georges Duroy pic

365 Days of Robert Pattinson: Feb. 22 ~ Fave Georges Duroy pic

Since I've been on this Anna Karenina-period-film-with-a-seducer kick, revisiting DuRob all this month has been awesome. Bel Ami is one of my top fave Rob films and revisiting our favorite pics of Georges is perfect to me.

Kate:
"There are so many great Georges pics to choose from and when I wanted to make a Bel Ami Wallpaper a while ago deciding which pic to use was a major problem but I eventually chose the one above and it is still one of my firm favourites. So for that reason this is my choice for today. I can’t wait to see what everyone else chooses ;-))"

Tink:
"shameless. conniving. seductive. all wrapped up in a little smirk. i actually used my favorite pic of Georges Duroy earlier this month but this screencap has the same essence that i loved in the other pic. Rob conveys the raw and simple truth of Georges feeling entitled and how he will achieve his place by any means necessary - physically fighting and f*cking and plotting his way to where he belongs - at the top. i see all of that in this pic."

Kat:
"This one because of the hair flipping Rob trait :-) Love it when a little bit of RealRob sneaks into his characters."

HitFix names Robert Pattinson the big attraction in Cosmopolis

HitFix names Robert Pattinson the big attraction in Cosmopolis

From HitFix/Guy Lodge:
Cannes Check: David Cronenberg's 'Cosmopolis'
Continuing our series of Cannes competition previews

The auteur: David Cronenberg (Canadian, 69 years old)

The talent: At this stage in his career, we don't expect an undistinguished cast from a Cronenberg film, and true to form, this one is packed to the rafters with interesting names -- though not ones you'd necessarily expect on one bill. Juliette Binoche (returning to Cannes for the first time since winning Best Actress two years ago), Samantha Morton, Paul Giamatti, Mathieu Amalric and Jay Baruchel are all on board -- as, more improbably, is Somalian rapper K'Naan. (On a side note, this is the director's first feature in 10 years not to star Viggo Mortensen.)
The big attraction, however, is some guy called Robert Pattinson in the lead. It's perhaps the poppiest casting coup of Cronenberg's career, and the best chance yet for the talented British heartthrob to win some admirers beyond the fiercely devoted "Twilight" faithful.
A major point of interest is that this is Cronenberg's first self-scripted feature since 1999's "eXistenZ," which rather increases the possibility of the director letting his freak flag fly. Below the line, meanwhile, it's business as usual: cinematographer Peter Suschitzky has shot all Cronenberg's films since "Dead Ringers" in 1998, composer Howard Shore has scored all but one since "The Brood" in 1979, while editor Ronald Sanders and costume designer (and sister) Denise Cronenberg go similarly far back. This sturdy team is just about as integral to the Cronenberg brand as Cronenberg himself.

....

The buzz: Through. The. Roof. Casting Pattinson in the lead has ensured that, in an unusual occurrence, the arthouse intelligentsia and the screaming teen hordes are going to converge on the same red carpet, making "Cosmopolis" surely the hottest ticket of the festival. What that means for the film itself is harder to gauge. With the festival's flashbulbs fixed squarely on it, the film's under pressure to deliver -- but it's likelier to satisfy, or at least stimulate, the Cronenberg acolytes than the mainstream media drawn more by the casting than the challenging match of director and source material. Mixed reviews wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing: it could be one of those strange festival brews for which critical consensus is slow to emerge.

The odds: The bookies like the film's Palme chances -- Paddy Power currently gives it strong odds of 11-2 -- but in this case, I don't think they're necessarily being deceived by the bright lights. Cronenberg is well overdue for some major festival hardware, and the film's themes would make it an attractively timely winner. I have my doubts about the Palme going to a big-name North American dreamer two years in a row, but of all the English-language films in Competition, this feels to me like the best bet. R.Pattz for Best Actor, on the other hand? I'm not sure the internet can handle that.

LOVE IT! Cosmopolis has got a great shot at the win. I love that Guy labeled Rob as talented already. :) And oh my heart...we would all die in a pile if Rob snag Best Actor. Best of luck to all nominees but we all know who we're rooting for. :)
