AUDIENCE PRIZE – THE SCHERMI D’AMORE ROSE

The Schermi d’Amore Rose goes to the film Little Ashes (Great Britain - Spain, 2009) directed by Paul Morrison.

This year it was once again the audience who awarded the prize at the 14th festival dedicated to romantic films and melodrama.

Winner of Schermi d’Amore in 1999 with Solomon and Gaenor, which had its world première in Verona, Paul Morrison’s was among the five foreign films nominated for Oscars the following year. Now the refined British director has once again been recognized for his talent with a biopic which takes him from Wales in the 1910s (the setting for Solomon and Gaenor) to the Spain of the 1920s, for a tragic love story. The tormented relationship between Federico García Lorca (1899-1936) and Salvador Dalí (1904-1989), which the painter – after the Andalusian dramatist’s execution by Franco’s supporters – kept secret until the final years of his life. The Surrealist genius – played by Robert Pattinson before starring in Twilight – is portrayed during his university years, torn between his attraction for the author of Sonnets of Dark Love and his desire for fame and fortune, which would take him to Paris with the director Luis Buñuel (1900-1983), the third legendary Spanish figure with whom he would create the famous short, Un chien andalou (1929).

OT - Just read a lot of comments from people who were at the Oprah Eclipse screening..................Better than Twilight or New Moon they say.......leg hitch is there, love scenes are good, more interaction of Alice and Jasper, lots of action and an animated wolf scene????

Not sure what that meant. Animated?

Yeah, for Little Ashes - it is visually stunning and I love the music.

Well done Rob and Javier, thoroughly deserved accolade for a very beautiful film.

Very sensitively acted by Rob - his vulnerability was heart breaking.

I live in Turin ... now it's so weird to communicate with you in english!!! Anyway I didn't realize that you were italians before because your english is so good!
Really! I'm proud of you! (you seem to know a lot of slang... maybe I'm a little bit older ... actually even to stay in a blog like this I guess ... but ... who cares?)
CIAO RAGAZZE!

Scusa, non avevo visto anche il tuo commento! Comunque non c'è dubbio che in fatto di buon gusto e stile in Italia ci si tratti bene!
Translation (I try ...)

Excuse me, I didn' notice your comment: Anyway nobody can't say that Italians don't have taste or style!!! (more or less the idea is this ... I need a vocabulary, actually I have one ... but I'm too lazy now!)

Little Ashes was great I love it! One of Rob best, the director says he audition saw all the best young british actors and pick Rob....

Ciao, ragazze italiane!! I don't live in Italy, but HB is Italian so read and speak the language a bit.
Why am I not surprised LA got this recognition? Italy knows how to appreciate beauty and this little movie is a beauty. Rob was amazing in one of the most complex characters to perform. I cried every time at the end, and my daughter became a true Dali fan.
Now we have to find a way to get recognition to Remember me.
Forza Roberto!!

I am glad this is getting recognition, at latst. And aren't Gozde and possibly others from this site almost totally responsible for the recognition? Continue in good strength, Gozde!

Little Ashes is incredible! It deserves much more attention than it had received so far. Well done! Good story, beautiful poetry, music, funny moments, sad moments, there's everything in there.
