This is from Rob's segment for ET Canada and he talks about auditioning for The Rover, which makes me laugh now since David Michôd said he was just putting Rob through the wringer. Rob also complimented David Cronenberg and more.

Oh Rob, you know what the kids say.

AUDIO: Great interview with Robert Pattinson and David Cronenberg that will make you ProudMamaSteph

This is another great one! The audio is dubbed but I could hear most of what Rob and David were saying. All the best bits. Transcript is below. Feel the pride, y'all!

Transcript of Rob and David's portion:

 photo Robenberg-1.gifRob:
I think it's kind of funny. I mean literally. I do weird movies and I like weird movies. And I just think it's kind of, all these, like people, the little girls screaming and then they're going to see The Rover. It's kind of hilarious.

David:
I'd like to take credit for this. And I've always thought he's a really, really, a very underrated actor and I thought he was extremely talented. So it just proves that my instinct that he was an actor who was a star before he had a chance to prove that he was a real actor. I mean it's like when he gave Rosette the Palme d'Or everyone told us this is terrible and then (?) so you feel your instinct was correct and that of course makes you feel really good.

Rob:
It's just someone believing in you. I mean, you kind of, someone who you really respect and it makes you think about yourself differently afterwards. And I was always quite ambitious when I was younger but after Cosmopolis you kind of feel different ambitions afterwards and you believe in yourself a little bit more.

Oh man....

David Cronenberg was a guest on the french programme 'Rencontre de Cinéma' where he talked about Maps To the Stars, going to Cannes again and of course, working with Robert Pattinson!

The interview unfortunately is dubbed but there are quotes from it at the bottom of this post

He talks about Rob at the 15:52 mark.

Quotes from the interview (thanks to Pattinson AW)

David says it's magical and exciting to go back to present a film at Cannes. He is proud to be a Canadian selected for Cannes Film Festival.

David loves the crazyness in the actors. That they are like children playing at being someone else

David says he makes his films very simply. Two days after the shooting, editing was finished!

David recites the poem by Paul Eluard 'Liberty' in French and without mistakes :) The poem has some significance and special meaning in the film.

David said that the film gives a very dark interpretation of what is freedom in Hollywood but he says that we must go see the movie to find out more lol

About Rob and Mia, David says they are fantastic actors, they bring a freshness and a different way of seeing the world. Because they are Internet generation, they have very sharp mind and great wisdom for their age. He says he feels like a father or maybe a grandfather for them lol

David doesn't have movie project for now, he has written a book and 5 producers have already called him to make a film of it.

Julianne Moore was also interviewed. You can listen to her interview over at MapsToTheStars.com (and it's not dubbed)

David Cronenberg Calls Robert Pattinson 'A Terrific Actor' & Talks About 'Maps To The Stars'

David Cronenberg Calls Robert Pattinson 'A Terrific Actor' & Talks About 'Maps To The Stars'

TeleFilm Canada held an event in Toronto last Wednesday to celebrate the Canadian movies that are at Cannes this year, one of which, as you know, is Maps To The Stars.

 photo HQPhotocallCannesWithRobertPattinson20.jpg

David Cronenberg attended and spoke to Times Colonist  about Maps To The Stars, Cosmopolis and Robert Pattinson, who not surprisingly he called a 'terrific actor'.
"Maps to the Stars" takes aim at Hollywood excess, with an ensemble cast including a bleach-blond Julianne Moore playing a hysterical actress and Mia Wasikowska playing the mysterious, scarred young woman who suddenly appears in her life.

Although it marks the first time Cronenberg, known for "A History of Violence" and "Eastern Promises," has made a film about Hollywood, he said he has been trying to make the movie — based on a script by novelist Bruce Wagner — for a decade.

"I've never really been obsessed with doing a movie about movie-making or anything like that, but in a way his script was not that. It's about ambition and fear and desperation and a whole bunch of other things within the context of movie-making," he said.

The film reunites Cronenberg with "Cosmopolis" star Robert Pattinson, who the director called "a terrific actor."

"When we did 'Cosmopolis,' he didn't really want to do it because his character was in every scene. He really wanted to be in an ensemble piece, where he was one of a great cast of actors," said Cronenberg. "I said, 'We talked about that and here it is. Here's a perfect role for you.'"

THE LIMO DRIVER

“Plus we’re both dual - disorder ”

When Agatha Weiss returns to Los Angeles, she makes an instant connection with the first person she encounters: her limo driver, a would - be screenwriter who chauffeurs the far more successful, and who becomes increasingly entangled in her larger - than - life drama.

Taking the role of Jerome is leading star Robert Pattinson, who wanted to work with Cronenberg again on the heels of taking the lead role in Cosmopolis (coincidentally, Pattinson played a billionaire who is a limo passenger throughout that film.)

photo tumblr_n41e3sJ1zO1ql8r0ko5_r1_250.gifHe was one of the first cast members to sign on, which Martin Katz says helped buoy the project. “Robert’s enthusiasm for Maps to the Stars is one of the things that really got us underway. Jerome is not a large role but it’s very significant in the story and his joining the cast gave us a terrific amount of momentum,” recalls the producer. “In a sense he is playing Bruce Wagner, who was himself at one time a limo driver and unemployed writer.”

Cronenberg was thrilled to reunite with Pattinson, and in such a different kind of role. “I think Rob was really happy to be part of an ensemble,” he says. “But Jerome is also a critical character, a lovely character and it was a chance for Rob to give a more naturalistic performance. I knew he would be fabulous and he was.”

Pattinson’s experience working on Cosmopolis with Cronenberg was so profound that he agreed to the role of Jerome before reading the script. But when he finally sat down to read it, he recalls, “Within two pages I was thinking wow, this is so unbelievably different and hilarious. I don't even know what people are going to make of this, but it feels dangerous. It’s sort of satirical but it’s also a ghost story and it’s also a kind of thriller. It defies genre.”

He came to see Maps To The Stars as more than just another L.A. story. “It’s really about 10 people who lie to themselves – right up until the end,” he summarizes.

Yet within all that, Pattinson sees Jerome as the most ordinary of the film’s roster of outrageously deluded and desperate characters -- typical of a certain kind of everyday L.A. dreamer, a regular guy with a regular job who nevertheless always believes h e is just one move away from becoming a major actor and writer.

photo Crazy.gif“Jerome would never accept that he is just a limo driver. I think he feels he’s just waiting for his break,” Pattinson observes. “And yet, he’s seemingly the only one in this story who's not going insane -- or who isn’t a ghost. He's a fairly normal guy, which is slightly odd for me, as well.”

Working with his fellow cast members was another big draw for Pattinson. Of Julianne Moore, he says: “She’s hilarious and also very sane, which is kind of ironic given who Havana Segrand is. And she shifts so subtly into character, you barely notice what she is doing. It’s kind of amazing.”

He worked most closely with Mia Wasikowska as Agatha, who comes to rely on Jerome as her sole friend in the city. “I knew Mia was going to be wonderful in this,” he says. “She’s so lovely that it was horrible for me to watch Agatha be bullied by her entire family.”

photo Bows.gifFor Cronenberg, the chance to work with cast members like Pattinson and Gadon multiple times is one of the most gratifying aspects of his career. “It's really beautiful for me to see that blossoming and the evolution of actors as I work with them, ” he concludes.

ROBsessed Awards - Robert Pattinson's Best Non- Fandom Supporter

ROBsessed Awards - Robert Pattinson's Best Non- Fandom Supporter

Robert Pattinson has been very fortunate to have had some wonderful support again this year from outside the fandom. We have some of our old regular faces....... and a couple of new ones too.

Josh Horowitz ~ The reigning champ is back to defend his title. He may not have had any interviews with Rob this year but he made sure Rob was mentioned in interviews with Benedict Cumberbatch, Ashley Tisdale and James Franco

 photo RobampJosh.jpg

David Cronenberg ~ (Maps To The Stars Director) David is one of Rob's biggest cheerleaders. As his director in "Cosmopolis" and this year in "Maps to the Stars" he has had many good things to say about Rob like, "I really think he's a terrific actor. He's extremely inventive. He surprised me every day on 'Cosmopolis' with the nuances and things that he did which were unexpected".

 photo DavidCronenberg1-1.jpg photo DavidampRob.jpg

Werner Herzog ~ (Queen Of The Desert Director) Werner was full of praise for Rob this year saying "He has charisma, he is smart, he writes. I hope we will see him one day as a director" & "This is a very intelligent man. Writes well. Knows exactly what he's doing. He also knows that he must be out of this short-lived type of role of Teen Stars."

David Michod ~ (The Rover Director) David worked with Rob on The Rover at the beginning of the year and was quick to tell people that Rob was 'really smart, and not the sort of pretty boy I was expecting. As soon as it was time to start testing… he was my first choice, by a long way.''

Dior ~ Dior and Robert Pattinson seem to have been made for each other. With their Dior Homme campaign it's clear that they have been listening to what Rob fans want. From the Dior Homme video down to the #DiorRob tag on twitter. It's pretty obvious how happy and proud they are to have Robert Pattinson as their front man.

A24 ~ I think we have all seen how much A24 share our excitement at seeing Robert Pattinson star in The Rover next year. As the US production company for The Rover they have been very vocal in their support of Rob on their social media.

Tink
Rob has been complimented profusely by directors before but i’ll never forget this one….

"He’s terrific. He deserves the affection that the fans have for him. He’s incredibly sweet, he’s very funny, he’s very bright and he’s also very knowledgeable about cinema. Not just movies but the history of cinema. He knows a lot about it. He’s just a sweetheart. And he’s totally professional. He’s always right there. We had a lot of fun shooting [the movie] because, as I say, he has a great sense of humor. We just played a lot. I think that’s a really great tone that’s set for everybody on the set. The lead actor has a really big influence on the tone of the shoot. If you’ve got a guy who’s very difficult and neurotic or whatever, they can’t help but affect everybody’s day. But Rob is not like that. He’s just a ray of sunshine. In fact, he’s in absolutely every scene of the movie, so obviously his temperament would have a huge influence on how the shoot went … and it was a dream. It was a beautiful shoot."

Kate

I generally try not look at what the other ladies post for their 365’s before I post mine.

 photo hideme.gif

It’s never a good idea! But today I looked at what Tink posted. BIG MISTAKE.

 photo Emb.gif
Anyway this is the one I’m going with (also from David) and kind of similar to the one Tink posted (but different at the same time)………

You have to have a kind of screen charisma, you have to have a presence, which you can’t buy or create; you either have it or you don’t. That doesn’t mean you’re necessarily a good actor, though. But you have at least that. I looked at all the stuff that he’s done, and I thought he’s a really good actor. And then I spoke to him, and thought not only that, but he’s a really smart actor. And he’s funny, and he’s very sweet. That’s when I tried to convince him to do the movie, which he was a little afraid of, just because I think he doesn’t know how good he is, basically. And I think now that he’s done the movie, he’s starting to understand how good he is. Because he’s terrific.

He knew my work, yeah. What’s interesting, too, about Rob is that he’s very well educated in terms of movies and movie history and foreign films. On the set, he and Juliette Binoche were talking about the most obscure French films and stuff like that together. He really knows his stuff. And yet, as I say, he’s a completely down-to-earth, sweet guy. Lovely to work with. And very funny.

I watched Remember Me, and I watched Little Ashes. Which is maybe a movie you don’t know, but he plays a young Salvador Dalí in that movie with a Spanish accent. And I thought that was pretty interesting, very daring of him to do that, and it indicated to me that he was an interesting, serious actor.”

Robert Pattinson's The Rover trailer coming "soon-ish" + sweet quotes from David Cronenberg & Benedict Cumberbatch!

We have a mini roundup of some film related news. First up is the eagerly awaited, The Rover.

It's not a whole lot to go on, but this tease from The Rover distributor, A24 Films, is welcomed.

Next, David Cronenberg praised Rob and mentioned Maps To The Stars and more in the newest Toronto Life. Here's a transcript of the direct Rob mention:
"Rob is a really fine actor. He hasn't been recognized that way. We said, let's do more," Cronenberg told me. It takes a veteran's business savvy to enlist a star of Pattinson's stature, though Cronenberg says he likes to repeat his actors because he wants to work with people who are easy, a lot of laughs. "You've got to have a playfulness, a lightness," he says. "Also, not being an asshole or a  drug addict really helps."
These excerpts mention MTTS and the Rob quote:

Lastly, this is a great throwback to Golden Globes 2013. Josh Horowitz was talking to Benedict Cumberbatch and fanboyed over Rob possibly being nearby. It prompted Benedict to admit he was a fan! He's even seen Twilight. Check it out :)

Can't wait for these guys to work together on The Lost City of Z! That's the latest movie news. Queen of the Desert is slated to be Rob's next film to go into production (Dec. 15), followed by Life, Mission: Blacklist and The Lost City of Z by summer 2014. Busy man! We'll keep you posted if there are any changes.
