Robert Pattinson talks about Queen of the Desert and the role being expanded just for him

Thompson on Hollywood chatted with Rob about his next projects and Queen of the Desert was talked about. An excerpt:

Photobucket Rob Pattinson changed out of his green suit before coming to the party with wearing a more casual red sweater and baseball cap, saying he has three movies to shoot befiore he even gets to "Queen of the Desert," in which he plays T.E. Lawrence opposite Naomi Watts' Gertude Bell.

"I wanted to work with Werner Herzog," he told me. He has no idea if he'll go blond to play Lawrence fo Arabia. And the role is being expanded for him. First he has to get through David Michod's "The Rover."

This might be The Rover, Mission: Blacklist and Maps To The Stars before QotD. We'll see how all the productions pan out but how awesome that the role was expanded for Rob! The filmmakers know they got a great thing going for them. ;)

Thanks smurfy_tapz!

Robert Pattinson is the one to watch in film because the surface is just being scratched

Robert Pattinson is the one to watch in film because the surface is just being scratched

I enjoyed a few articles that were talking about the future for the Twilight cast and Rob's future made me proud and excited. It's a new era for him and it's going to be awesome to watch it unfold.

PhotobucketExcerpt from the AP via Seattle Times:
Pattinson has made some of the most daring and impressive choices of the three of them. Before being cast as the swoony vampire Edward Cullen, the lanky British actor appeared in another blockbuster franchise as Hogwarts student Cedric Diggory in 2005's "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." In 2009, he played Salvador Dali in the barely seen "Little Ashes," and last year he starred opposite Reese Witherspoon in the circus romance "Water for Elephants" - although Associated Press reviewer David Germain wrote there was "barely a spark" between the two.
But Pattinson also has worked with the likes of David Cronenberg, starring this year in the acclaimed Canadian director's financial drama "Cosmopolis," which takes place almost entirely inside a limousine. And he'll soon work with Cronenberg again in "Maps to the Stars," and also begin shooting Werner Herzog's "Queen of the Desert."
Jones says Pattison has wisely chosen to parlay his "Twilight" fame to collaborate with serious directors and actors.
"He knows he has a certain box office appeal so the fangirls are going to see him no matter what he's in," she said. "People are willing to work with him the first time, they see all this potential he has, then they want to come back and work with him again."
Constantinescu echoed those thoughts: "He's the one to watch for additional films down the line," he said. "We are just scratching the surface with Robert."
Excerpt from The Playlist:
Robert Pattinson
Before "Twilight": R-Patz had relatively few credits before he was R-Patz -- he was cut out of Mira Nair's "Vanity Fair," but bounced back with a major role as the ill-fated Cedric Diggory in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." A couple of small British TV roles and indies, "How To Be" and "Little Ashes," followed, most of which only really found audiences once he'd found success with the vampire franchise.
Chances Of Success After "Twilight": Strong creatively, but the financial success outside of "Twilight" has yet to come. The actor has found a huge female fanbase as a result of playing ageless vamp Edward Cullen, which helped Pattinson vehicles "Remember Me" and "Water For Elephants" find moderate success. Still, the Twihards mostly won't turn up for films outside the romantic weepie wheelhouse -- "Bel Ami" took a dreadful $120,000 earlier this year, and "Cosmopolis" didn't do much better, with a mere $750,000.
Still, to his credit, those films are indicative of his desire to work with interesting filmmakers, and a willingness to stretch himself, and that's something that looks to continue.
On the way, he has the apocalyptic thriller "The Rover," from "Animal Kingdom" director David Michod, "Man On Wire" helmer James Marsh's "Hold On To Me" with Carey Mulligan, a reunion with Cronenberg on "Maps To The Stars," and he's lined up to play T.E. Lawrence for Werner Herzog in period adventure "Queen Of The Desert," alongside Naomi Watts and Jude Law. They're all far from the obvious picks for a heartthrob, and even if the performances haven't necessarily wowed, we're sure he'll only continue to improve. But will his built-in audience stick around? A smart move might be to take something action/thriller-y targeted at the mainstream, to try and win a male following. Perhaps something like "American Assassin," which Chris Hemsworth just vacated.
Excerpt from VH1:
Robert Pattinson: Rob seems hellbent on defying any and every box you might want to place him in, post Twilight, so his range of projects is vast. In pre-production, he’s got Mission: Blacklist, in which he’ll play a military interrogator who helped find Saddam Hussein; Hold On to Me, in which he’ll play the love interest of Carey Mulligan, who’s plotting to kidnap the town’s richest guy; The Rover, about car thieves in the Australian Outback; and Queen of the Desert, about early-20th-century archaelogist Gertrude Bell (played by Naomi Watts). Then it looks like he’ll be re-teaming with Cosmopolis helmer David Cronenberg for something called Maps to the Stars. We’re breathless after just summarizing all that.
I'm going to like seeing mainstream take notice of Rob's talent more and more. The pigeon-holed him for so long and all his future roles will really let him explore untapped corners in his skill set. I know I don't need to ask you guys if you're as excited as I am because we've been saying these things in the articles for years. ;)

Movie updates! Rachel Weisz out of Maps To The Stars, Quorn impresses Rob and more!

Photobucket Sad news for folks that were looking forward to Rachel Weisz working with David Cronenberg and Rob. She shared with Belfast Telegraph (UK) that she has no plans to be in Maps To The Stars:
Rachel also denied stories that she will be working with David Cronenberg in Maps To The Stars with Robert Pattinson and Viggo Mortensen. "I'm not in that. I'm unemployed for now," she joked.
I'm not heartbroken. Maybe Rachel and Rob aren't destined to work together. OR third time is the charm? As long as Rob's still in something, I'm happy. But we can light a candle for Rachel in the DR. ;) There's no word yet on when the film will go into production.

Also, The Rover producer, Liz Watts and director, David Michôd, put out a sweet thank you to the people of Quorn in the February 2013 Flinders Ranges Council Newsletter. They said Rob has been impressed by Quorn!

Lastly, no Rob mention, but the screenwriter for Hold On To Me, also honored with a placement for the script on the 2012 Black List, spoke to Going Into The Story, about the film. Click HERE to read Part 3 of Brad Ingelsby's interview with the mention!

That's the latest! The Rover will be wrapping soon and it's not set in stone what's next for WorkingRob.  The most recent update has him starting Mission: Blacklist in April. Time will tell!

Robert Pattinson Shares Some Details About "The Rover" To "The Playlist"

UPDATE: More of the Interview Added After the cut
Robert Pattinson Shares Some Details About "The Rover" To "The Playlist"

Photobucket

To say that Robert Pattinson has been filling his post-"Twilight" calendar with ambitious films would be an understatement. This weekend brings his trippy David Cronenberg odyssey "Cosmopolis," and over the past few weeks and months, the actor has signed on to a handful of interesting films, including "Mission: Blacklist" about the hunt for Saddam Hussein, Werner Herzog's historical tale "Queen of the Desert" and "Animal Kingdom" director David Michôd's "The Rover." And it's the latter about which the actor has shared some tantalizing details.

Catching up with Pattinson as he did press rounds for "Cosmopolis," he filled us in on what we might expect from Michôd's follow-up to his crime drama "Animal Kingdom." Set to shoot next year, "The Rover" boasts some pretty big ideas behind its deceptively simple set up. "It's a kind of a western," Pattinson explained. "It's very existential. It's really interesting. I couldn't really explain to you what it's about but it's sort of about how much pain can the world take and how much disgust and cruelty before love dies. I think that's kind of what it's about." (Cronenberg, who was in the room, chimed in with: " That sounds pretty heavy!") (Kate: Too right David!)

Pattinson will co-star in the film with Guy Pearce, with the near-future-set story centering on a man who journeys across the Australian outback to find his stolen car, which contains something invaluable to him. However, Pattinson admits that perhaps his description might be a little more highfalutin than the actual movie. "David Michôd's going to read this and be like 'What the fuck are you talking about? It's a crime movie,' " he said with a laugh.

As for when "The Rover" is coming out, Pattinson admitted it is later than he originally wanted. "I wish it was shooting this fall," he said. "I was supposed to be doing this movie this fall but that was pushed to after 'The Rover,' which is a good thing because it needs a ton of work. But I really wish I could move 'The Rover' up. I've got to find something else to do."

Robert Pattinson's The Rover trailer coming "soon-ish" + sweet quotes from David Cronenberg & Benedict Cumberbatch!

Robert Pattinson's The Rover trailer coming "soon-ish" + sweet quotes from David Cronenberg & Benedict Cumberbatch!

We have a mini roundup of some film related news. First up is the eagerly awaited, The Rover.

It's not a whole lot to go on, but this tease from The Rover distributor, A24 Films, is welcomed.

Next, David Cronenberg praised Rob and mentioned Maps To The Stars and more in the newest Toronto Life. Here's a transcript of the direct Rob mention:
"Rob is a really fine actor. He hasn't been recognized that way. We said, let's do more," Cronenberg told me. It takes a veteran's business savvy to enlist a star of Pattinson's stature, though Cronenberg says he likes to repeat his actors because he wants to work with people who are easy, a lot of laughs. "You've got to have a playfulness, a lightness," he says. "Also, not being an asshole or a  drug addict really helps."
These excerpts mention MTTS and the Rob quote:

Lastly, this is a great throwback to Golden Globes 2013. Josh Horowitz was talking to Benedict Cumberbatch and fanboyed over Rob possibly being nearby. It prompted Benedict to admit he was a fan! He's even seen Twilight. Check it out :)

Can't wait for these guys to work together on The Lost City of Z! That's the latest movie news. Queen of the Desert is slated to be Rob's next film to go into production (Dec. 15), followed by Life, Mission: Blacklist and The Lost City of Z by summer 2014. Busy man! We'll keep you posted if there are any changes.

Translation (After The Cut)

POLL: What Robert Pattinson film are you looking forward to him completing in 2014?

POLL: What Robert Pattinson film are you looking forward to him completing in 2014?

With less than 24 hours to go in the heated Round 2 MTV Movie Brawl (CLICK HERE TO VOTE), I know you guys might be poll'd out but I was curious about the ROBsessed consensus on something we covered during 365DoR for Rob's workload in 2013.

If all goes according to plan, Rob will be filming 5 movies in the first 6 months of the year! It's an ambitious calendar but we're not complaining. All work and no play hardly makes Rob a dull boy. So of all the films, which one are you looking forward to the most? I know we want them alllllll but which story/character do you have your fingers and toes crossed that it stays on Rob's schedule?

Queen of the Desert - filming now, Rob will play T.E. Lawrence in Werner Herzog's story about Gertrude Bell. Rob is in a supporting role but he's playing an iconic character and with a director he considers a genius.
 photo coolstuff.gif
Life - filming to start in February, Rob will play Dennis Stock, the Life magazine photographer famous for showing an intimate look into the life of James Dean. Rob is in a leading role as we see him play a straight-laced man chasing a rebellious rising star which leads to an unexpected friendship. Fun trivia: The Life script was written by Luke Davies - housemate of David Michôd, Rob's The Rover director.

Mission: Blacklist - filming scheduled for the second quarter, Rob will play real-life hero, Eric Maddox. Another leading role, Rob dives into the historical tale of how a young, brilliant military interrogator assisted in the capturing of Saddam Hussein.

The Childhood of a Leader - filming scheduled for May, not much is known about Rob's role in this film yet but it tracks the childhood of a World War 1 leader. We also know that the movie will reunite Rob with his Cosmopolis co-star, Juliette Binoche, and is the directorial debut of Brady Corbet. Fun Trivia: Brady Corbet was at Rob's Cosmopolis premiere in NYC.

The Lost City of Z - filming this summer, Rob will keep his trend going and play in another true story. We don't know his role in this film either but it's an adventure tale set in the 1920s. Rob will find himself working with another director he admires greatly - James Gray.

Select one or more

We love and support all of Rob's films and can't wait for them to grace the big screen!

Awww don't be like that. You know you love Torture Tuesday.

TOO BAD!!! Because your grumbles keep this day going. ;) Where shall I begin....

Yesterday, we found out that Rob was no longer going to be a part of Mission: Blacklist. I'm totally fine with this for reasons I shared in the comments but the one thing I am sad about is we lost a film with Rob in the lead and well, Rob as a lead......

 photo wantwhatwewant.gif

This made me think about Rob taking on leading roles after he snagged Twilight yet before he became the KING OF CANNES with Cosmopolis...

In Remember Me, he was the charming and troubled Tyler, breaking our hearts and making us fall for him just like Ally.

 photo cuteface.gif photo tease.gif

In Water For Elephants, he was the compassionate, sweet Jacob, making us again fall in love with him like Rosie and Marlena.

 photo SadRobowski-1.gif

In Bel Ami, he was back to charming and troubled....actually Troubled with a capital T. And this time, you were definitely in danger if you fell for him...like poor Virginie here.

 photo MadDuRob4.gif photo MadDuRob2.gif photo MadDuRob1.gif

Rob would go on to knock it all out of the park in Cosmopolis as the leading man and start his reign as the KING OF CANNES but what do you think about these three leading roles/characters during the Twilight years? Great you say? Fantastic? Rob was the complete embodiment of Tyler/Jacob/Georges? Well what if I asked you this....

heheheheeeeee....happy Torture Tuesday!

What to know about Robert Pattinson in the "absurdist comedy", Maps To The Stars

What to know about Robert Pattinson in the "absurdist comedy", Maps To The Stars

While we patiently wait for Rob's next film to be filmed, a mystery film but presumed to be Mission: Blacklist, we have a fun read about Maps To The Stars, also currently a mystery as to when this will go down.

photo RobertPattinsonStrombo2-2.jpg Real Style Network did 5 fun facts about Rob in Maps To The Stars:
1. Maps To The Stars Is Robert Pattinson’s First Major Comedy… And It’s Dark
When we spoke with producer Martin Katz — who worked with Cronenberg and Pattinson on Cosmopolis — earlier this year, he described Maps To The Stars as an “absurdist comedy,” which will be a huge departure for Pattinson who has yet to star in a Hollywood comedy: “{I am working on my fourth collaboration with David Cronenberg called Maps To The Stars,” said Katz to Real Style. “It is an absurdist comedy about the entertainment business. We hope to be able to work with many of the people we have worked with before including Rob Pattinson.”
(Tink: Martin spoke a little more about Rob and Cosmopolis in his interview. Click HERE to read. This will be his 4th film with David Cronenberg so the interview is a good read as well.)
2. Maps To The Stars Pokes Fun At Hollywood
Maps To The Stars will hopefully be a rather revealing portrait of Hollywood with the stars of the film playing characters who are agents, actors and managers. That’s right. Robert Pattinson will probably ruffle some feathers by poking fun at the film industry in what will likely be one of the most talked about dark comedies of 2014. Think Entourage with an art house makeover with the reigning king of Canadian film, David Cronenberg, at the helms.
3. Robert Pattinson Will Likely Have Some Heavyweight Co-stars in Maps to the Stars
Although Robert Pattinson is the only star listed as officially being a part of the exciting film, one of Cronenberg’s favourite actor-collaborators, Viggo Mortensen, is likely involved. Mortensen has famously worked with Cronenberg on A History of Violence, Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method. Mrs. James Bond, Rachel Weisz, has also been tied to the movie. That means Robert Pattinson is going to be in good company.
(Tink: As we know, Rachel is not going to be in MTTS. Click HERE for a recap.)
4. Maps to the Stars Makes Robert Pattinson A Member Of Cronenberg’s Inner Circle
Signing on to Maps To The Stars means Robert Pattinson is officially a member of David Cronenberg’s inner circle. Cronenberg is famous for collaborating multiple times with his favourite actors, including Viggo Mortensen, Jeremy Irons, Vincent Cassel and Real Style’s current cover girl, Sarah Gadon, who worked with Pattinson on Cosmopolis and also starred in A Dangerous Method. When we spoke with Gadon for our Spring 2013 cover story, she talked fondly of Pattinson. When we mentioned that working with Cronenberg has probably done wonders for raising Pattinson’s artistic credibility in Hollywood, she simply responded by saying, “Now he’s going to work with Wernver Herzog.” Not bad, Rob! Pattinson will star in Herzog’s Queen of the Desert opposite Jude Law and Naomi Watts in film about Gertrude Bell’s life — an archaeologist, explorer, cartographer, and political attaché for the British Empire at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century.
5. Cronenberg Will Leave Toronto To Shoot Maps To The Stars With Robert Pattinson
Although Cronenberg shoots a lot of his films, such as the Robert Pattinson headlined Cosmopolis, in his hometown of Toronto, Canada, Maps To The Stars is being filmed almost entirely in Los Angeles. It makes sense, given the story is about Hollywood.
How exciting that Rob is filming a comedy??? Sure an absurd one but those can be the best kinds. I'm so ready for Rob to bring his comedic talents back to the big screen.
