Robert Pattinson On The Sunday Times Rich List

Robert Pattinson On The Sunday Times Rich List

Photobucket

The 22nd annual Sunday Times Rich List – the definitive guide to wealth in Britain and Ireland – is published in a special 104-page supplement, which profiles the 1,000 richest people and families in the UK and the wealthiest 250 in Ireland. The list is based on identifiable wealth (land, property, other assets such as art and racehorses, or significant shares in publicly quoted companies), and excludes bank accounts (to which the paper has no access).

Twilight film star Robert Pattinson, 23, worth £13m, is the top new entry in the list of young millionaires aged 30 and under, ranking 14th. He joins Harry Potter film star Daniel Radcliffe, 20, now worth £42m and ranked 5th in the young list, ahead of Kiera Chaplin, 27, and Keira Knightley, 25, each worth £28m and ranked equal 7th; Emma Watson, 20, worth £22m at 10th equal; and Rupert Grint, 21, worth £20m and ranked 12th.

Congrats to Rob, you deserve and have earned every penny.

He does deserve it, although I hate when they talk aout how much "wealth" or how much they make...

It's funny with him, because he doesn't really care about it...just another reason to adore him..

HI CL! Still waiting on the Oprah call....

Hi CL & RPG!! Oprah is going to call me on Monday...

money or no - he's fabulous just the way he is!! & what's so great about him is that he still lives/acts like he did before all the money.

FILTM!!

Jeez~that pic is hot! I'll bet MY bottom dollar, that Rob couldn't care less about money. But I will say that what he has given to us~~~~priceless!!!

Yep, he deserves it all!!!

Rob works hard for his money, no doubt about it. Always filming these days.
I'm glad that his wealth hasn't turned him into some kind of spoilt actor... some kind of male "Diva" as it were.

Stay as you are Rob - we love you just the way you are!

Wow love the picture. I always love it when ro has a little curl in his hair...makes him look really cute.

He's a Taurus they tend to be good with money always planning for the future (if you believe in astrology)

I don't think money changes his mindset much, but if he keeps making much more it will. But I'm happy for him.

Money doesn't make happiness, Rob does!!!!!

Just another thought...Twilight is making a killing on the movie, marketing, etc. I really hope Rob, Taylor, and Kris have a hell of a contract. Shares on the marketing of their image at least!

Lurve me some Mexico Rob :-)

Now don't flame me for this, but I think everybody who keeps pointing out how Rob doesn't care about money is just assigning him characteristics based on well, nothing really. How many interviews has he talked about how you can't make money in music? I think he cares just as much as anybody does about money. He just isn't spending it like crazy that we know of. Doesn't mean he doesn't care about it though.

Petra Eller said...

Rob `s wealth can be seen elsewhere. His eyes, his hands, his lips. Oh his lips are so valuable. Extreme invaluable.

And this picture is killing me.

Pretty good for a kid that went from zero money to a millionaire in a year. That shows us that Rob was meant to be.

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Marna,
He actually said that once in an interview...I wished to hell I could remember which one, but I don't...that's what I based by comment on....I think he cares enough to be making some...but it's not about being rich....

RPG - i was bummed to read that some have already got their call from Oprah. i guess i am not going :(

Hello to all :))

Barbara said...

@ Kember - jealous much?

Rob is using his skill, talent, and good looks and he works his arse off to achieve. He's not sitting back and allowing others to pave the way for him. There was a wall hanging in our house when I was growing up that has a direct bearing on what I'm trying poorly to describe. It went

What you are is God's gift to you.
What you make of yourself is your gift to God.

That philosophy places responsibility for performance squarely on one's own shoulders. Rob rose to the challenge and has done well for himself. What would justify someone being jealous or envious of him? He earned the money honestly. He put in the blood, sweat, and tears to be where he is. He has given up a great deal of his personal privacy in order to do that, but he has done it with what Pierce Brosnan called, "Grace under pressure."

Assess your skills and talent and muster the energy to use what you've been given to make your life what you want it to be. Don't play that cheap blame game because others have more than you. There will always be others who have more.

You mentioned Elvis Presley's home. As I recall, he worked hard for what he earned and it seems to me that he had a manager that bilked him out of a great deal of money. I never recall reading anything from Elvis that indicated he suffered bitterness or jealousy regarding others.

Use the success of others to fuel your desire to be all that you can be. Channel that energy into something positive. Living with bitterness and jealous and envy because others are better off paves a road to nowhere. Attitude matters.

Rob is definitely a success story and he has only just begun, and we haven't even gotten to his character yet. He has what it takes to compete and be a winner.

And isn't he easy to look at!

FILTM!

Very quiet for a saturday night. Come on girls let's paint this blog red. NB's Nik, Sarah where are you?

RPG I pray so hard for this phone call. You most of all have to be there.

Too much make up on edward's face for me. He is gorgeous but why on earth he has to have loads of make up on. In twilight you could see his red harry potter's cheeks from time to time. Anyways

Barbara said...

@ Kember - I'm Barbara, not nik. I wish I had her ability to write and respond; alas, I don't. I do respect her and enjoy her comments and humor.

The difference between achievers who work hard and wannabes is directly proportional to demonstrations of bitchiness. Why don't you stay on subject and get off personal attacks?

I live in Michigan. As I recall, nik lives in LA. I'm a teacher, nik does something else.

Thanks for the wine. A good demi sec would be perfect.

i do hope and cross my fingers that someone from here gets picked but i haven't got my call :(

@Ana73--Her show goes on hiatus for the summer, so I think this is one of the last shows until the fall. I would assume that it will be aired again the week Eclipse comes out.

RTP_KJS_Lover said...

@Ana73--I would love to see them on Ellen, too. She would have to film soon, b/c I think her shows are reruns in the summer as well.

@Ana73--Yes, no matter what. Even if I only take 1/2 off of work, I am going. I actually don't work to far from her studio, so it's an easy commute to and from work.

@RPG--I am reading Eclipse again, and just got to the part where Bella tells Jacob that vampires don't have fangs. I want to copy that and send it all talk show hosts and interviewers.

RTP_KJS_Lover said...

@Ana73--I saw that. My internal dialogue was while the ring is important, I want to see the big gold bed, the tent, and the leg hitch. That's what matters to me. If you look at the description in the book, the screen cap of the ring pretty much matches, IMO.

Spunky's said...

@ana
i love oprah.she is mature and ask really deep but thoughtful questions and she tries not to offend. she will mention the relationship and she has the skilll of getting real answers. she probably wont press the issue if she sees they are uncomfortable. someone mentioned that she signed a contract with summit agreeing to avoid the robsten question. i find that hard to believe. i don't think she plays by others rule and allows others to restrict her questioning but i would believe a conversation mmay take place beforehand and they can have a understanding.as big as twilight is oprah is bigger so i don't think summit has power to restrict her interview. just my opinion...but an oprah interview wont be like a tabloid

Am I missing something? Is there something important about knowing individuals' earnings? I am only asking because this feels tasteless to me. It is one thing to say that actors earn anywhere from such and such to such and such, and quite another to tell their specific earnings.
Whether I earned in the ten thousands of tens of millions, I wouldn't want the amount to be known and spread across the paper.
BTW- Gozde et al--I have nothing against your putting it on the site, once it is out there already; please take no offence. I am just once again disgusted with the lack of tact and taste in the media.

@Solas, Hi. When I use to get the newspaper, Parade magazine at least once a year does a special issue on who earns what in the US. It is extremely enlightening because they have actual salaries with examples of real people with their names and location, from garbage collectors to sports superstars to movie stars. There is no judgement, obviously. So this is nothing new. The lists of earnings are really everywhere. Including my company who has to post them in their annual report for the public as we're a publically traded company.

arcade said...

wow... my 1st comment! Question .. they say that this list is not based on bank accounts but land ect. For some reason I always imagined Rob with this enormous bank account balance and the only things he ever spent anything on would be beer, smokes and a guitar here and there. Anybody have any idea what got him on this list? It seems so un-Rob.

Vangie said...

harry potter pays allot and how many harry potter was made and how many years and how many harry potter does it have? i maybe don't care but that will never stop them,so that is something rob have to get use to what bi can say i can see why rob loves being home they really love rob in brittan,he is sure not getting no hate if they are there they sure are keeping quiet no one is wishing him bad, they want after he make is movies the britt wants him back home so he must be happy

MMc said...

I agree that Rob has definitely made a name for himself and deserves recognition for that and I love him and all he stands for...............but I also feel that our society is WAY off in the way they reward celebrities, sports figures and rock stars.......many of those people don't have an education, get into drugs, have low morals and make a living pretending to be someone else.

While policemen, firemen, nurses and teachers REALLY save lives, work extremely hard, have been educated and make so little doing the REAL work of helping people and truly making the world a better place by the way they help real people every day.

Why are we so gluttonous as to reward actors, athletes and musicians with SO much money that totally obscures their view of reality and ends up basically screwing up their lives because too much money can corrupt those who especially don't know how to handle it........such as, someone who earns it quickly. A lot of money along with a lot of fame is a recipe for disaster in many cases. So far, Rob seems level headed and doing well with it thank goodness.

I may sound jealous but I'm really just trying to be realistic about how things SHOULD be. We pay them such an obscene amount of money when LOTS of
people really work hard and even risk their lives for their jobs and don't get anything close to what actors, athletes and musicians make.

Why should the superfluous world of entertainment be so rewarded and not
those who really make the world a better, safer and more educated place?

If I were an actor, I'd feel SOOOO guilty about making SO much money for just reciting lines in front of camera while so many others suffer from having so little or live in the streets with nothing.

As much as I love Rob - I just don't agree with paying them so damn much simply for acting - the salary doesn't fit the job, in my humble opinion. I respect the fact that he doesn't flaunt it and doesn't let it change him. Though, how could it not change him - I mean what would YOU do if you suddenly had 18 million dollars???????

And, true, Solas, they really don't need to be publishing the information. Actors rarely if ever talk about their wealth in public - but they probably do among their friends. We also tend to have more respect for those who make a lot of money........when in many cases.......they don't deserve it.

Sorry to go on - I just feel that the public so blindly puts these people on pedestals when there are many others that deserve it just as much or more .........the pilot that saved those people in the Hudson River, our military men and women around the world, the true every day heros who deserve it every day.

Maybe I'm just a jealous bitch - I've spent a lot of my own hard earned money on Twilight shit in the past couple of years. It's just my opinion - I could be wrong.

Lallieb_-I understand they do that, but again, at least for myself, it would be just as informative if Parade would make it nameless-- a garbage man in Springfield earns in this range; a police officer in Morristown earns this much, etc.
I guess I just have a thing about people owning their personal lives.

@ femroc - You have made some excellent points. Saying what you did doesn't make you a bitch and doesn't make you sound jealous, imo. You stated your opinion without attacking others and you presented it well. Again, nicely done.

I wish there was an answer to your point regarding the disparity of income. Some people think that if you want to play the game, you learn the rules and go for it. You present a troubling reality. Do you have any recommendations regarding huge sums of money being paid to celebrities?

Again, you brought up many good points.

lallieb said...

@femroc, not the way it should be, but that's the way it is in our society. I think that's why Parade magazine does that issue to give everyone a reality check. It's not right and it's not fair. But we don't live in a socialist society, where there would be more equality. This is where capitalism has got us. Whether you agree or disagree, it is what it is.

thanks Barbara - I appreciate your support.

And no, I don't know enough about show biz to know how to even suggest any changes. If the public complained would it make a difference - probably not - they are in the business to make money and they do it well.

I love Rob to death and wish him the best and just pray that the money doesn't change him.............but it would sure change me and I'm old enough and smart enough to know better!

As I stated sometime before: I wish blanket statements wouldn't be made about actors, musicians being paid massive amounts of money. It's only 1-2% of the acting community who make these figures, and they are only paid commensurate with how much money they will make for their employers. Most won't make a working wage. I agree that those who work for the community should be paid more, but there is a disparity between those at the top and those in the ranks in almost every profession.

Hahahahaha yea..the Haiti telethon and all the others are a joke..if all the ppl that supposedly supported it and worked on it..each put half their money together in a pot..they could buy that whole fuckin' island..but awwww they cried..LOL

When they take a shotgun and go down and actually save lives and get ppl outa there like Sean Penn did during Katrina..I'll be all for them..but maybe that's why Sean..back in the day..was pushed outa there..because he was actually real and the best actor at the time..and still is..period..too real for YOU?

Nope, Robert isn't in it for the money..just like none of the others..they're in it for the ART..LOL

They think it's funny..but in the end they just cut themselves off from the rest of society and normal ppl..they have to live with ppl just like them..no matter how hard they try too run or stay away from them..those are their "friends"..or at least have too be..and they hate it..guilty mirror images suck..LOL

Karma~!!!

They have no friends.

And what they do has no meaning..not anymore..THEY have no meaning..characters on a stage..whether it's on here..in movies..in mags..or in public..and the sad thing is..they couldn't care less..Papz, fans, money, that's all they care about.

IRONY..I don't have too look up the word. They're sitting in it..and so are we..LOL

Sure AP; supply and demand, and what the market will pay. If people don't pay to see films with an actor, the actor will not be offered much pay. If actors are willing to accept less for films, from what I understand they are blasted and hated by fellow actors for possibly lowering the bar of pay possibilities. Teachers, those to whom we entrust our most precious lives, our children, are paid horrendously low salaries, partly because they are willing to work for those salaries. If societies could not get anyone to teach for the low salaries, they would somehow come up wth better pay. Researchers, trying to develop cures for diseases, are paid better than teachers but not much better.
It seems the highest salaries are in entertainment (I consider sports entertainment since people are watching them); if we could get enough people to boycott until salaries are reasonable, more funds would be available for more needs. But it ends up the opposite: people are willing to pay to be entertained, amused, and not to educate children, or to find cures.

Cheeky Chops said...

Hahahaha it's NOT a profession anymore..and "who can get more attention" from the masses..it's a bloody joke..period..real ppl now look at actors and actresses as jokes now..as they should..as they started out to be..I can pretend in front of a camera too..esp when my lines are being fed to me..that's why we're not focusing on them anymore..it's CGI and special effects..those are the REAL talents..A person can't seriously look at someone and say wow..ur so artist..you got paid 20M..for what?..tell me about it..seriously..what did you do to be paid more money than the leader of the free world..or any world for that matter..WHAT DO YOU DO???

again..WHAT DO/DID YOU DO???

answer that.

Femroc, I agree that people in the military and other service workers deserve to be paid more. I guess life just isn't fair and it's something we all have to accept.

Remember though that celebrities have their own struggles. A lot develop addiction problems, they go through several failed marriages, their privacy and freedom are sacrificed. And some of them end up spending nearly all the money they have. Rob cannot go for a walk down the street without risking being recognized. I'm sure at times he fears for his own personal safety.

Jesse, from what I recall, Rob has said at least a few things about this: 1- when it all gets too much for himself, he reminds himself he could be working in a shoeshop= and I guess he does not want to be smelling old holey socks or stuffing feet into shoes all day; and
2- that he wishes he could just do this, and learn his craft, and give of himself, and not have to be paid.

I think we have discussed this here before, when he first said this (or when it was first posted here), and apparently there are actors who sometimes do act for free or for much less than what actors of their stature are usually paid, and it ends up being a problem in the industry.

In the end, having a large sum of money is helpful especially for artists, for people who need to create, for people learning a craft. Rob is taking advantage of the larger sums of money to choose and learn and create.
I know some cannot take an religious explanation, but for myself, reading that he had called home and had said he was going to give up on acting and then suddenly he lands this job that thousands tried out for, and this job, that was supposed to be a little indy thing morphed into such a huge thing that paid him enough to do more of what he wants, means to me that the real Master of the Universe (not ff!) is presenting Rob with this chance and choice.
All the power to him!May he use the opportunity well and choose well.

I too believe art matters, but not as much as education and health, and certainly not to the discrepancy represented in salaries, pays, and awards. And I don't thnk there is anything wrong with wanting to be entertained, or with watching sports and prowess in athletes, but not to the extent it is in this society and again, not to the amount of money in comparison to more curcial needs.

AP said...

Well, there I disagree. Art was once defined as education - no longer apparently. Even though history has been gleaned through laundry lists, it's arts that has survived to define cultures and civilizations. I'm not saying it's more important than providing adequate health care, housing and other basic needs but creativity and expression seems to be an essential need too.

solas said...

I agree that humans in general (perhaps not all in specific--or perhaps it has been buried in some, or not yet awakened) need to create and express--it is one of the biggest differences between humans and non-human animals. However, I do not equate unbalanced financial support of the arts, and certainly unbalanced financial feeding of talentless idiots, with support of education, esp vis a vis good teachers, and support of medical treatments and cures.
Beyond that, when I speak of education as far as funding goes, I mean schools, teachers, etc., there is education beyond that and ought to be, and it is not funded-- the learning at home, in community, from experiences, from reading, etc. Education in schools is (theoretically)part of a society's equalizing force as well as measure of industrial potential and global competition and is an input task (skills and information), in contrast to expresson and creativity which although resulting in art and defining a culture, is output (the skils and refning may be input, but the actual creativity is within, going out).
People have always created, and will continue to create, even without education, without training; they are barely reading and doing math and receivng past lessons in schoools as it is and certainly weren't doing too well without them (not counting homeschooling, private tutors, etc).

solas said...

Am trying to think of better way to say all of that!
Perhaps: humans have a basic need to create and express, but not a basic need to teach in schools (we do have a basic need to teach in the sense of passing on pasts knowledge and skills). So the salary discrepancy of outrageously more money to those who create, as opposed to those who teach/impart, does not make sense. Humans also have a basic need to learn, but not necessarily what the government or society wants them to learn, in the way they want them to learn. Again, the need for teachers.
Although artists will flourish and create more extensively if they are supported and can devote their time and energy to just creating and learning and growing in their art, they will most likely create under any conditions, because of the human need to create and express ourselves. But students, especially children, will not most likely learn what is required and supposedly neccessary to function in society, without specific conditions, including teachers.

OK I don't comment here that often but some of these comments are starting to hack me off. Why is it a sin for Rob or George Clooney or any other actor to earn money? do you honestly think that if he refused to take a large salary that it would somehow be redistributed to the less fortunate? it would in its a**e!! it would stay in the studio executives pockets and they would probably laugh at him for being so gormless. I don't nor never will earn this sort of money but I do not begrudge someone who does. Rob and George et al are entertainers and bloody good ones at that so by definition they have done the job they are paid for. I seriously do not hold with this idea of sticking your hand in someones pocket and redistributing their wealth, that's socialism and the last example of that wasn't exactly a model of fairness. Living in Ireland and watching how our country has been sunk by the rapacious greed and recklessness of people that will never see the inside of a jail I think we seriously should stop going after soft targets. I'll stop now as this thread is probably dead.

All of you ladies have valid points. I too believe that if you've put in the work you should reap the benefits. But those that have been given plenty should also give plenty.

There is an obscene amount of money being made by celebrities. Many abuse the wealth. (brittney spears chartering a plane to fly to LA for her favorite cappucino, or lindsey lohan putting it all in her nose, or michael jackson paying a ridiculous sum of money to a doctor that pretty much helped him commit suicide-I digress)

Then there are some like Oprah, Michael Jackson (he was a philanthropist more than most), or Angelina Jolie etc. who give away tons of money and their time to help others in need. Many dislike Angelina Jolie, but I respect her She stated that she could easily live off less than half her salary. How much more does she really need? Is there really much of a lifestyle change between 10 million and 20 million-just a few more toys.

Andrew Carnegie believed no one should die rich. he gave much of his money away before death. Thats admirable, Then there is Leona Helmsley who left her billions to her cat.

It will never seem like giving some time or some money is a huge contribution when we compare it to what they make. The teacher, soldier, cop, firefighter, 9-5 laborer, will never earn that money or even a percentage of what entertainers earn. Honestly, their work would become less admirable if they did.

The rich have been blessed (we all work hard at our craft. The cop, teacher, soldier works just as hard as the entertainer, just different work) They have the resources to give. So they should.
Rob has earned his wealth whether he did it in a year or not, but I would lose respect for him if he ever became a big headed actor who flaunts his wealth but did little to contribute to society.

I have posted that he should enjoy his wealth (he worked for it), but as his income grows (it will), I hope that his heart and responsibility (yes we ALL have some responsibility to our world) to society grows.

Okay I will shut up no, no one has to tell me to do so. This is probably a dead issue anyway :-D

There are those people with intellect and talent who perservere and create their own wealth, and there's a little luck mixed in there as well. Speaking of philanthropists, what about Warren Buffet and Bill Gates?

solas said...

tgill-I agree wth you, in part. I neither advocate socialism, nor taking from one's pockets for another, nor redistribution of wealth, nor rewarding those who do not work; I do advocate paying for work. I also am in favour of kindness, philanthropy, etc.
What I was TRYING to get across was what I view as the skewed values of societies, and I think they will continue to be skewed, scrwed, offbalance, and disturbed as long as people pay the amounts they do for the things they do; abordinately disproportionately more for entertainers and entertainment than for the other needs, crucial needs, society requires to grow, flourish, and sustain. This does NOT mean those in the entertainment field who work have no value or ought not be paid, nor does it mean that those who create have no value or ought not be paid, nor does it mean everyone needs to be paid the same amount so all is equal. The key here is value and disproportionate.

solas said...

By the way--i don't begrudge Rob, the HP cast (they have given 11 years of the lives, most of their childhood and ten years, to give the world the wonderful, delightful presentation of beloved meaningful books), or anyone else either talented in art or in entertaining, even a penny, and i do not demand of them they give away their wealth; aside from the fact that I would love for art to be supported enough as part of society so people CAN create and develop their talents and craft, as long as we are living in societies that are willing to pay them what they are paid, then that is what they ought to receive. Further, I don't think they clear as much as is advertised; I could be wrong. I think between taxes, manegerial staff percentages, bodyguards, travel, etc, they end up with less.

BTW- (Don't worry--it is just myself, ranting again or trying to follow through on the thoughts here; blame it on my sun, moon, mercury and venus;)or body cycle and sinus infection ;-)) and -I do NOT subscribe to the philosophy (?)that since they are being paid so much, they deserve whatever intrusions into their lives they get with papz, screaming fans, etc. We are paying the market value -whether it is sensible, skewed, etc- for their WORK and whatever else they are contracted to do (press releases, interviews, promotion tours)but we have no RIGHTS to their creations not contracted (like open mike songs, emails, dairies, etc) and no rights to their lives, their privacy, their sanity.

The public love to be entertained and fantasize. How many of us put ourselves in Bella's place in Twilight, New Moon. In Emilie's place in RM. How many times did we all go see these movies and pay. It's always been a given for movie stars, people who got lucky enough for people to pay to come to see them. It's always been that way, the rich and famous, doesn't make any difference if they quit school and ran away from home and were discovered. Fate plays a large role and people spend their money to be entertained, so what's the big deal of the money issue?

Jane--like I kept tryng to say--the issue is what society values. I personally think it is skewed, offtrack. Yeah, I think Scorps in general can be loaded with contempt for those who behave badly--including themselves--and trolls, by definition, behave badly.

Cliques--can't do the accent--well, they are all about exclusivity (sp?) and while Scorps (to my way of thinking) inwardly think of themselves as a cut above, they detest the type of group behaviour--like fraternities, sororities, cliques--which exist to make their members feel better than others. Usually they dismiss those not in the select group out of hand.
I detest such behaviour, both of trolls and cliques. Too complicated to go into here.

Haven't read this whole thread--coming back a day later and maybe no one will read this anyway--

Howver, I'm with AP on the question of the importance of the arts, Solas. I don't mean entertainment, as so many seem to.

The arts might entertain, but they are capable of doing things nothing else can, of guiding us to ponder and realize the depth of the human condition, of helping us grapple with existential issues, the basic 'why are we here?' 'what is our purpose?' issues, and so much more.

The arts are not only valuable, they are touchstones to the breath of life. They are absolutely essential, as much as breathing.
My heart and soul would wither if I didn't write, or have some other form of expression; I might not die as I might have food and water, but I'd be too depressed to appreciate the gift of life.
