The Central Performances From Guy & Rob Are Really Extraordinary" ~ David Michod

The Central Performances From Guy & Rob Are Really Extraordinary" ~ David Michod

David Michod talks about The Rover, Guy & Rob's extraordinary performances & More in an interview with SBS Film Australia

 photo image.jpg

Every filmmaker dreams of getting a film into Cannes. Why do you think The Rover did?
Hopefully, it feels like a film they haven't seen before – it's tense and unusual – and because the central performances from Guy and Rob are really extraordinary.
You have said that the film is "not a post-apocalyptic film”, that “this is an Australia that has broken down into a kind of resource-rich Third World country." Can you expand on that?
I didn't want the world of the movie to feel like we'd been reduced to psychotic apes because of a single cataclysmic event. Rather, I wanted it to feel like the entirely plausible and frighteningly possible result of the world we live in today: economic and environmental collapse, as a product of rampant greed and exploitation, reduce Australia to a dangerous resource-rich third world country. Infrastructure, products, and an economy of sorts still exist – they're just broken, fragile and the world of the movie as a consequence is dangerous and unpredictable.
For the many people who know and love Animal Kingdom, what would you say to them about how the film is most different from or influenced by or still shows the David Michôd touch.
I think it will feel like it was made by the same guy who made Animal Kingdom. The Rover is much leaner in narrative and more epic in landscape but, like Animal Kingdom, it's still about the sadness and menace of people trying to make sense of a world that doesn't make any sense.

"Robert Pattinson Has A Treasure Of Unexploited Talent" ~ David Michod

"Robert Pattinson Has A Treasure Of Unexploited Talent" ~ David Michod

Well there's no doubt that David Michod is a big Robert Pattinson fan and I think this excerpt of his interview on Page 11 of the French Press Kit for The Rover where he talks about casting Rob provides even more evidence of that.
What he said about him will surely bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye.

Thanks to LeRPattzClub for translating it.
How did you choose your actors ?

I had Guy Pearce in mind since the beginning. We needed a man who was his age , who had a quiet and mysterious strength, who had his talent and his extraordinary attention for details. I didn't forget the pleasure I had working with him on Animal Kingdom. Rob (Pattinson) came later on. We met, I appreciated him a lot and then, he did some screen tests for me, awesome tests, full of life, never forced or artificial and then it was done. And there's something very exciting to have the opportunity to show to the whole world that a star, who was understimated and reduced to a certain image, has in fact a treasure of unexploited talent. I quickly notice that Rob is a great actor. And I'm looking forward to everyone seeing that.

If Guy Pearce's character is the «Rover» , how would you define Robert Pattinson's character ?

He's also a «rover.» Guy is a rover meaning he is a "tramp". But in classical english, "rover" is also used as a loving terms to refer to a dog. And Rob follows Guy everywhere, just as a lost dog would do

Great VIDEOS: Robert Pattinson On The Set Of 'Life' Last Night, MORE New Pics & That's A Wrap for 'Life'

4 Mins of Rob. Oh ya! And if you can tear your eyes away from Rob watch out for director Anton Corbijn making a cameo as a photographer

CHECK OUT MORE NEW PICS HERE & HERE

From Popsugar:
Robert Pattinson found himself on the opposite side of the red carpet on Monday when he shot a paparazzi scene for his newest film, Life, in Toronto. The actor giggled with his fellow faux photographers while waiting behind a velvet rope to take pictures of other actors on the set. There's a good reason for Rob's being behind the camera, as he plays Dennis Stock, a real-life photographer who is on a quest to take a snap of James Dean (played by Dane DeHaan) for Life magazine. The former Twilight star has been working on the film for the past month and recently made for a picture-worthy snap when he and Dane filmed a motorcycle scene several weeks ago.

Robert is currently preparing for the release of another film, The Rover, which is slated to hit theaters on June 13. Meanwhile, he also has the highly anticipated Maps to the Stars release to prepare for, which has yet to be given a firm premiere date for this year. After Life, Robert will start filming on two other projects — The Child of a Leader and Hold on to Me.
Dane DeHaan also tweeted that the movie has wrapped, along with this pic of the vintage cars being packed up ........

Our Affiliates RobertPattinsonAustralia were lucky enough to be able to attend Flickerfest in Sydney where they saw none other than David Michod!
You KNOW there was talk about Robert Pattinson and The Rover so here are some excerpts from their report.......
David noticed that his films seemed to be from the perspective of a child.  He thought that The Rover was the first time this wasn’t so, but then realised that Rob’s character Rey can be considered childlike in The Rover so maybe he hasn’t really distanced himself from that. (Kate: Childlike ReyRob, God help us all)
After the success of Animal Kingdom he was given the opportunity to direct other people’s scripts, but he realised what he loved the most was that he liked to build films himself from the ground up.  He worked on the script of Animal Kingdom for about 10 years (whilst he did other jobs of course) and he wrote the first draft of The Rover with Joel Edgerton in about 10 days before he even filmed Animal Kingdom.
I can’t tell you enough how much praise David heaps on Rob.  David said he “loves talented people”.  He also said numerous times how smart Rob is.  Really smart. (Kate: God I love this guy. David Cronenberg watch out, you have competition here! :))

David said he he finished The Rover about one to one and a half months ago and that noone has seen it yet.  He wanted to bring a teaser for us today, but he just wasn’t ready to reveal it yet. (Kate: *cries* I can be patient, yeap I can, I really can. Uh-huh patience is my middle name ;})
He said they are rolling it out and showing it to people over the next few months.  He said he felt the same at the end of The Rover as he did with Animal Kingdom.
David “absolutely loved the work done by Guy and Rob.  They created great characters and loved their performances”. (Kate: Can't wait to see Rob and Guy act together in this and this is making me even more excited)

Romain Gavras On Working With Robert Pattinson, His Favourite Scene In The Dior Homme Advert & More

UPDATED with more from the interview
Romain Gavras On Working With Robert Pattinson, His Favourite Scene In The Dior Homme Advert & More

Romain Gavras spoke to Italy's Io Donna magazine and had (not surprisingly) had some very nice things to say about Rob.

 photo MQDiorRobertPattinson06.jpeg

Where did you get the inspiration for the video?
Working closely with the team of Dior. A hundred lifetimes in a day and the words of James Dean : " Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today. " The result is a character who goes through emotions and different places . Then, with the cinematographer André Chemetoff and production designer Jean -Michel Bertin , we looked for the best visual grammar to tell this story fragmented.

How would you describe the Dior Homme  man?
The man we want to represent is a man who is light, at ease in any situation. He could be on a deserted beach , in a luxury hotel or in an empty house which he has just moved into: he would always be himself. We wanted to move away from the stereotype of the successful, rich and arrogant, and that is why we have added details such as the eighties car that leads to a certain point. The
woman is another great way to characterize a man: in the video is a simple girl, who isn't dressed in  showy .

Tell us an anecdote , a particular story happened on the set?
We shot in Brooklyn, Rockaway Beach , immediately after the hurricane. Looking at the scene of the beach, you can note their signs , for example, the very high sand or cabins destroyed , which give the place a strange , unexpected look, in a video for a luxury perfume . Oh, and we also ended up in the sea with the car ... It took two boats and a tractor to bring it to dry land !

The main difficulty ?
Probably the fact of having to take in so many places at once . We had to run all over New York with Rob, who is a big star in Hollywood, dodging paparazzi and all the rest , not to reveal the images of the campaign prior to submission. Also, before you know Rob had no idea how it would go because we were waiting hectic , very active , and sometimes the actors do not like working under pressure. But he was great , he gave more than we asked , he was with me one hundred percent . In addition, during the shoot, we had great fun .

What is your favorite scene ?
I really like the part on the beach,  it was the first scene we shot . During the first shot something interesting is always happening and at that moment you know if what you had in mind will work or not. It was very nice to hear that it would work.

How was working with Rob ?
Rob is extremely curious, he's leaving the phase of the " poster boy " of Twilight to play more mature roles . He's already making interesting and courageous choices. Speaking as a director, I can say that he is an actor who is very easy to work , he's able to give so much .

" I Hope We Will See Him One Day As A Director" ~ Werner Herzog Talks About Robert Pattinson

" I Hope We Will See Him One Day As A Director" ~Werner Herzog Talks About Robert Pattinson

 photo WernerHerzogampRobertPattinson.jpg

This interview with Werner Herzog (director of "Queen Of The Desert") was done back in January and as you know we got updated news about the location etc in June (check that out HERE if you missed it) so disregard the second part of the second question.
But have a look at the great things Werner has to say about Rob!

Playboy: For your next film 'Queen of the Desert' you have cast 'Twilight' teen heartthrob Robert Pattinson.
Herzog: He approached me. That is why I am taken seriously in Hollywood. Because so many good actors want to work with me. Nicolas Cage was never better than in 'Bad Lieutenant'.
Playboy: What do you see in Robert Pattinson ?
Herzog: He has charisma, he is smart, he writes. I hope we will see him one day as a director. 'Queen of the Desert' is not yet fully funded, and we don't know yet where we will shoot. Possibly, that should be in Syria.

Hold On To Me director, James Marsh, compliments Robert Pattinson: I loved his attitude towards cinema

Hold On To Me director, James Marsh, compliments Robert Pattinson: I loved his attitude towards cinema

Photobucket
This is the google translation but you can still make out the compliment clearly (bolded in blue). Love what James Marsh had to say about Rob and the film. Excerpt from Cinema Teaser (France):
PhotobucketSo if Marsh has turned this mini-series even without official title next summer, which is HOLD ON TO ME, her project with Robert Pattinson and Carey Mulligan?
"This advance," reassures Marsh. "I think turning in early 2013 if funding is secured."
Often compared to ALL READY TO Gus Van Sant because of its pitch (a beauty queen kidnapped and buried alive a man for money), Marsh tells us that he finds suitable comparison, although: "BOOGIE NIGHTS will also be a model in terms of tone. This is one of my favorite movies, because it goes to the dark humor in a second. HOLD ON TO ME is a dark comedy. Documentaries had my humor - at least I hope - as my fictions were heavier. There will be more exuberant. "
An album that could change Marsh's career, due to the presence in the cast of Robert Pattinson: "Robert is interesting: he knows where he wants to go and he wants to work on projects that help to make as COSMOPOLIS . He uses his fame and power to help people like me to make interesting films. It has a lot of potential. When we met, I loved his attitude towards cinema. He loved the script and told me so very intelligent. It will be a great asset to HOLD ON TO ME and I hope with him to suddenly casting this rameutera full of teenage girls in the rooms to corrupt! (Laughter.)
Finally, Marsh has revealed the actor he wanted to complete the cast: "I would hire an actor in the series GIRLS, Adam Driver. It is a great actor, yet little known. This will form a great triangle with Robert and Carey. "A great actor indeed already seen in J. EDGAR, and soon to be in Steven Spielberg's LINCOLN, Inside Llewyn Davis of Coen, THE F WORD with Daniel Radcliffe or FRANCES HA Noah Baumbach.
On a side note, Marsh won his Oscar for the documentary, Man On Wire. It's available on instant play for Netflix and I encourage you to check it out if you're a subscriber. It's an amazing film. Captivating from start to finish. Let me know if you've seen it in the comments. I'll probably want to rave about it. :)

"I Felt Lucky To Have Robert Pattinson" - David Cronenberg Talks "Cosmopolis"

David Cronenberg spoke to the ReadingEagle.com about "Cosmopolis", casting Robert Pattinson for the role of Eric and how impressed he was with the fan sites devoted to "Cosmopolis".
Check out the parts of the interview below where he talks about Rob.

Photobucket

Cronenberg fans will find "Cosmopolis" very much of a piece with his filmography, particularly "Existenz." That film concerned the creation of a new virtual-reality game into which players directly - and cringe-inducingly - plugged themselves. In "Cosmopolis," Packer relies on virtual reality to simultaneously monitor and detach himself from the real world.

"The sort of strange virtual-reality element of 'Cosmopolis' does lead you to 'Existenz,' " Cronenberg conceded, "but thematically they're different. Eric was characterized by one of the investors in the movie - a man named Edouard Carmignac, who is a genuine French billionaire - to be completely accurate. Edouard invested in this movie because he felt he recognized many of his colleagues in Eric, that they do, in fact, create this kind of bubble reality that they live in and that is just completely disconnected from people's idea of human reality.

"So on that level 'Cosmopolis' is very realistic," Cronenberg said. "Of course, at the same time, there are many gamers who live mostly in a virtual world and, I suppose, 'Existenz' is still an accurate portrayal. So there is that crossover."

At first glance, Packer appears to be a soulless character. He initially exhibits little to no outward emotion, not while receiving updates about his dwindling finances, not during sex, not ever. That sense of detachment is enhanced by the limo, which is smooth-running, soundproof and bulletproof, with tinted windows that minimize Packer's view of outside events and prevent prying eyes from looking in at him.

"You can see his soul as the movie progresses, as he approaches his childhood," Cronenberg said, "because, really, we begin to realize that the barbershop represents his childhood. It's his childhood barbershop. It's where he used to live. It's where he came from." (Kate: The scene in the barber shop was one of my favourites as much as it pained me to see Rob's hair being cut)

"Eric wasn't born into money. I think you see Eric become more vulnerable and more childlike and naive, and when he's in the barber chair he becomes like himself as a child, before he'd erected this Eric character, this Master of the Universe guy. So you should gradually warm up to him as you realize how vulnerable and how wounded he is.

"It's why I cast Robert," Cronenberg added. "It's a very uncompromising performance. We don't go out of our way to make him more likable than he is, but you want to watch him. He's very charismatic, Rob." (Kate: Yes, I want watch him every minute and hour of the day, Oops did I say that out loud ;-})

"Cosmopolis" is Pattinson's show, and it's as far removed as it could be from the commercial gloss and sparkly vampires of the "Twilight" films in which Pattinson has starred as Edward Cullen. The actor has been in the news of late, owing to the demise of his relationship with "Twilight" co-star Kristen Stewart, but Cronenberg lauds his leading man for his often-overlooked, still largely untapped talents as an actor.

"Rob is in every scene of this movie," the filmmaker said, "and I needed a guy who could support that. His accent is spot-on - it's very much like Don DeLillo's accent. He brings a wry sense of humor, and he brings that strange emotionality that you feel from underneath because, as I say, it's not there from the beginning, because it's a journey in more ways than one.

"You have to see Eric evolve and, thanks to Rob, you do," Cronenberg said. "I think it's a spectacular performance, very nuanced and detailed."

Like everyone with a stake in "Cosmopolis," Cronenberg hopes that Pattinson's legions of "Twi-hard" fans will turn out en masse for "Cosmopolis." Based on the production of the film, he said, that might happen.

"The Twi-hards followed this movie hugely," Cronenberg said. "There were 20 to 30 sites devoted to 'Cosmopolis,' some of them really quite spectacular, professional and slick, and they were being done mostly by Twi-hards, who are mostly girls, and they were reading the book. They were reading the book and commenting on it, on these sites, before the movie was finished."

The director is clearly impressed.

"That was incredibly satisfying," he said. "They were loving the book and the idea that Rob was doing it, and they're supporting Rob's choice.

"I got a lot of props myself," Cronenberg added with a laugh, "because the Rob fans are rooting for him to show what he can do as an actor and, therefore, they loved me for giving him the chance. (Kate: Yes we did! Plus we loved how adorable Robenberg were)

"That was their attitude, though my attitude was that I felt lucky to have Rob." (Kate: Awwwwww, could we love David any more than we already do?)

What Made David Cronenberg Choose Robert Pattinson As His Leading Man? - BBC News Finds Out

Cosmopolis sees teen heart-throb Robert Pattinson as billionaire Wall Street banker Eric Packer, who glides across Manhattan in his limousine in search of a haircut. On the way he encounters sex, violence and anti-capitalist protests.

As well as keeping much of the novel's original dialogue, Cronenberg also kept many scenes inside Packer's noise-proofed, gadget-packed limo.

"I like to shoot in confined spaces," he says. "There's an intensity that immediately affects an actor's performance. Visually it forces you to be quite inventive."

By way of preparation, Cronenberg showed his crew the 2009 film Lebanon, which takes place inside an Israeli tank, and 1981 war epic Das Boot, which takes place inside a German submarine.

"I said: 'Let's not be intimidated by this, this could be quite exhilarating if we do it right.' We built a limo that comes apart like a Lego car in about 24 pieces. I don't think of it as a challenge, but as a lot of fun."

Robert Pattinson's performance as the billionaire banker has been largely well received since the film's Cannes debut.

Declan Donnellan and Nick Ormerod were at the Jameson Dublin Film Festival last night for the Irish Premiere of "Bel Ami".

Check out the video below from JDIFF around the 1:55 mark where they mention Robert Pattinson

They also introduced the film and spoke about Rob and the rest of the cast.
I need to apologise for a couple of things 1. The quality of the pic is not good BUT the sound is and you can hear clearly everything that's being said.
2. Sorry about the laughing, couldn't help it {giggle} they are 2 very nice, very funny guys ;-)

Am I jealous that they were drinking tequilas with Rob? You BET I am and I was tempted to try and touch the hand that touched Rob LOL

They were meant to be doing a Q&A after the film but for some reason it didn't happen.

Gozde: I love Dreamgirls :) What do you guys think? Is it 1 movie or 2? Stephenie Meyer is the producer will that change anything? I think no it won't since she was probably always the queen bee, she just has more control now which in my opinion is a good thing since I love her to pieces and I LOVED Breaking Dawn. But Stephenie on the off chance that you are reading this: show me some SKIN on Isle Esme and I'll keep loving you forever and ever and ever :)
