NEW Translated interview with Robert Pattinson for Life

New interview with Robert Pattinson for Life

image host

A new Italian interview with Robert Pattinson about his role in Life, has been published in the newspaper Corriere della Serra.  It's a translated interview and so the accuracy may not be the best.  An excerpt of the translation is copied below:

“To set myself free from the Twilight saga, I agreed to be the co-star in Life”, says the actor who plays the star’s photographer who died 60 years ago.

“Twilight? I am proud to have been a part of it. I am no longer forced to pursue a job as I did before Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The fame sprung after that still puts me at ease, also on the economic side, to select only the projects I believe in. And Life is the proof of that.”

Q: What effect did it have on you to be the photographer and not the subject of the pictures for once?
“I realized how much it may be difficult to deal with a star. When you’re on the red carpet you actually don’t even see the photographers, you move doing some poses, often studied, but you can’t see the faces, you only see the flashes. Of course, it wasn’t easy for a photographer of that time, as well as certainly it isn’t today. However, Dean was able to keep his private life enough hidden. It was a different era, but there wasn’t less greed to know the intimate details of his daily life than nowadays.”

Q: Idol of the young generation, beautiful, certainly not a “bad boy”, but still quite with a dark charm: when you got the script, did you think you would be the right one for the role of James Dean?
“I think one might think of it, but it wouldn’t be the right choice for both the good of the character as well as for me. They would start the comparisons, I would be accused of presumption and then, perhaps, I would not be able to give that little extra that instead DeHaan managed to do. From my point of view, been able to play Stock and his way of relating to someone so elusive, but in his way charming, magnetic, posed a challenge is even more exciting than to impersonate Dean.”

Q: At the time of that story Stock was 27, he was already a father and he had to struggle between work and family while pursuing his dream of becoming an accomplished photographer: you are almost the same age, 29, you are already famous and you don’t have a family: it seems that there can’t be a more distant character…
“At a first glance yes, but these aren’t the characteristics which most define a person. Both the success and becoming a parent are variables that depend on you, or rather, not only on you. You need luck and find a person who, in addition to love, wants the same things that you want at the time you want them. Stock was like me in the determination to wanting to be an artist, and also in that bit of initial embarrassment that I often feel when I relate myself with someone for the first time.”

Q: Are you a shy person?
“No, but I need some time to open up to anyone.”

Q: Even romantically?
“With anyone, even in love.”

Q: Did you ever fear that the label “the one from that Twilight movie” could negatively affect your future in acting?
“The success of Twilight is something special that I will never regret. Since I started this career I am trying to improve myself, to challenge myself with different roles compared to those I have already interpreted. If in 10 years they will speak of me still just as “the one from Twilight”, the blame will be mine alone.”

"For Robert Pattinson, It Was Very Interesting To Play A Photographer As He Is Always Hunted By Them" ~ Anton Corbijn Talks 'Life'

In an interview with Trends Life Director Anton Corbijn spoke about working on the movie with Robert Pattinson & Dane DeHaan.

From Trends:
My next movie is about the relationship between James Dean and Dennis Stock, photographer for Life magazine. It ends just before the release of 'East of Eden' which made James Dean famous all around the world.

The young actor Dane Dehaan plays James Dean, and Robert Pattinson the photographer…
"It's never easy for an actor to play another actor – particularly James Dean.. But Dane Dehaan is excellent. And Robert Pattinson as well. For him, it was very interesting to play a photographer as he is always hunted by them. And for me it made sense to make a movie about a photographer whose model has a strong image. It looks a bit like my own story."

Will it be a movie in black and white?
"I wanted it to be but for budget reasons, I filmed it in colour. And in the end, the result is quite good - even better."

An interview with Robert Pattinson appears in the April issue of Greece's F Magazine where Rob talks about how it was important to him that the perfect person was found to play James Dean in Life, having his personal life 'out there', if he's ever used disguises when out and about (I love that Rob's idea of a disguise is a cap), what he's afraid of and MORE.
It's a good read so grab yourself a cuppa and check out the translation of the interview below thanks to Rob's Promotion

Translation:

He wasn't looking for the easy way... A role that was more like a trap and his progress as an actor is very different from the usual. He is also unbearably good looking!!! Eyes, smile, hair and a talent that makes an effort to be revealed, but I know for sure that it exists!!!! LIFE will be his next movie in which he’ll prove it. Stop doing what you are doing and pay attention: Robert Pattinson talks…

Question: "You have to know that there are similarities between James Dean’s life and yours."
Rob: "For me the story of James Dean and of Dennis Stock are two completely different stories. The story of James Dean, maybe because I’ve lived it up to a certain point, doesn’t particularly interest me. From the very beginning I identified more with the character of Dennis Stock."

Question: "How do you see James Dean? Were you inspired by him?"
Rob: "Almost all actors go through a phase that they have an obsession with James Dean. His movies had a huge influence. Some things are exaggerated, but that has to do with the fact that he had just started. You can see his fearless experimentations. Some of his movements are very gentle, like ballet movements, and others are blatantly strong. I’ve seen a lot of his photos and it’s interesting that he never took a bad picture. This doesn’t have to do just with his face. He always knew how to stand in front of the camera. In 1955 people were not constantly photographed and he wasn’t that famous yet, but he just knew that his face took good pictures. He was very good in controlling that."

Question: "How is it to be photographed? Do you like it?"
Rob: "I’m very bad at that. There was a time when the first Twilight movie was released, I wanted to show a certain profile. When you can control it it’s fine, but when they photograph you all the time, you lose control. Suddenly you are afraid and you become an introvert. At the moment I’m in that phase “Don’t take any pictures of me!”

Robert Pattinson: "Collaborating with an auteur has been very positive for my career."

photo tumblr_n4hxk9vuwo1qdspdto2_250.gifHoy Cinema: Robert Pattinson (Maps to the stars): "People go crazy with pressure":
Little or nothing remains in Robert Pattinson of the shy young protagonist of the vampire franchise "Twilight", saga you removed him from anonymity to the end of his days. It should dive into social networks and discover the phenomenon Pattinson in them to understand the detachment of the actor by the fever of Fame. "I learnt to protect myself, not to mention more. I have discovered that the details are of interest to no one and would rather get away from these reactions in mass."

Maps to the Stars Pattinson becomes a driver of limousine that moves from one place to the other movie stars in Hollywood, while at the same time he attends hearings trying to find its own niche. "When I read the script I thought it was hilarious, I liked the dialogue and the architecture of history.» That is Cronenberg, a filmmaker who, at seventy-one years, continues to be subversive and combative."

It is somewhat macabre Canadian director chosen for the role of underdog to one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood. "That's part of his sense of humor. I know a lot of people that look like the characters. It's an honest story and many actresses, as Havana (role played by Julianne Moore), go a little crazy by the pressure. In the industry there are many negative energy and I could not tell you why but there is, it is really strange."

Pattinson has become one of the favorite actors of Cronenberg, with whom he worked last year also in Cosmopolis. "I am as surprised and I am very grateful for the opportunity he has given me. His confidence has opened many doors that otherwise would remain closed to me. Collaborating with an auteur has been very positive for my career."

photo Crazy.gifThe film industry urgently needed a guy like Robert Pattinson, able to feel confident and at the same time not be taken too seriously accepting your situation with a dose of humor. "As an actor I want to be part of projects that make sense. For some time it has not appeared any commercial movie that called my attention. There is too much pressure around me and I'm not interested in feeding that beast. I prefer to star in independent films than a film of superheroes that I feel no connection."

In love with the singer FKA Twig, the actor has surpassed the drama of his relationship with Kristen Stewart and looks to the future by writing a new chapter, but does not include producing a music disc. "I do not face criticism very well and I have enough with which I receive as an actor, to also show my music. I do not feel the need to be criticized for it. "

Question: How did you get Pattinson to join?
Koolhoven: That goes through an agency. I was watching some movies Guy Pearce was in and last year he was in THE ROVER and Pattinson was in there too. So I happened to stumble on that and I fell for that role. It is completely different from his role in Brimstone, but I thought he was really good.

Question: What will he be doing exactly in your movie?
Koolhoven: He will play an outlaw and I'm not going to say more than that. It's a secret.

Question: And all Pattinson fans love you now?
Koolhoven: Yes ha ha ha last night things went crazy and Twitter exploded. People started to talk to me from all over the world in strange languages.

imgboxDE VOLKSKRANT interview with Rob at the Berlinale by Floortje Smith, February 12th 2015: EX TEEN IDOL

Actor Robert Pattinson is used to the Red Carpet, where he, thanks to the Twilight series, was often waylaid by teenage girls. Now he plays a Red Carpet photographer in Anton Corbijn’s LIFE.

One of the first things that director, Anton Corbijn, did after he had cast Robert Pattinson was to put a camera in his hands. In the role of Dennis Stock, photographer of the international photo press bureau Magnum, the camera, he thought, had to become a part of his body. He had another reason: Pattinson had to feel how it is to be behind the camera instead of being in front of it.

The role that Pattinson plays in the new movie of Anton Corbijn, that got a special Gala Screening at Berlin, feels a bit like the world is upside-down. In the movie the world star and teen idol stands in between the photographers at the Red Carpet where in real life the 28 year old actor is waylaid by photographers.

Life is about the complicated relationship between the relatively unknown David Stock and the Hollywood star James Dean. Stock did an iconic photo shoot with Dean in 1955. He is the man behind the world famous picture of James Dean on Times Square in which he walks straight at the camera huddled in a dark coat, cigarette in his mouth. Stock met Dean (played by Dane DeHaan) just before his big break. A photo shoot could help both of their careers, he reasoned.

photo 10991320_1596966767203895_8733652666856544602_n.jpgPattinson felt an immediate connection with Stock. ‘A tragical figure really’, he says in a hotel room in Berlin. Would it have not been more logical for Anton Corbijn to have him cast as James Dean? If someone knows how it feels to be famous from one day to another it’s him. Because of his role as Edward Cullen in the fantasy film series Twilight his life changed into a chaos of screaming teenage girls and paparazzi.

“Still it cannot be compared”, emphasizes the actor. “People look at James Dean as if he is some kind of spiritual leader: tell us how we should live. They never saw me like that.”

Life is set in the weeks before the premiere of James Dean’s debut movie ‘East of Eden’ (1955). Everybody predicted that he would become world famous. The actor realizes that ‘everything around it’ is just as important as acting and that the studio has him in its claws. It suffocates him. That is something Pattinson doesn’t recognize: “We had no idea that Twilight would become so successful. Only the week before its release we saw a growing interest on the internet.” When the craziness exploded Pattinson found it all very surrealistic. “I had no expectations of what would happen, so I didn’t get disillusioned as Dean did. I see it as a door that opened, I didn’t know what was on the other side, but I was curious and took a look. Later I realized that “oh, this is not going away”. The door closed behind me.

Now three years after the release of the last movie the craziness is diminishing. In the movies he is now, he plays small roles, like the role of T.E. Lawrence of Arabia in ‘Queen of the Desert’ by Werner Herzog or the limo driver in Cronenberg’s ‘Maps to the Stars’. According to Anton Corbijn this is where the connection with his role as Stock is. Because Pattinson became popular at such a young age, he now wants to prove himself, says Anton Corbijn. That he plays a photographer who wants to prove himself is an interesting parallel.

In his career Pattinson makes wayward choices that turn out well. If everything goes well with the financing, he will be seen in movies of cult-director Harmony Korine (Spring Breakers, Trash Humpers) and James Gray (We Own the Night, The Immigrant). Pattinson is a huge huge fan of their work. “They were the first directors I personally approached when I noticed that the scripts I wanted to do where not offered to me, so I decided to contact the directors I admire myself.”

This week the news has been released that Robert Pattinson will be in the western-thriller Brimstone by the Dutch director Martin Koolhoven. "The story is fantastic; I have an idea how I want to do it. It's a dangerous role, but I can't say much about it. And the cameraman is the same one as in in 'Rundkop' and I think that movie is fantastic."

In the meantime Koolhoven is getting crazy of the messages he gets on Twitter from Pattinson fans worldwide. It is hard to imagine all these teenage girls watching a Harmony Korine movie. Pattinson: “I do not know very well what my fans like. I remember that I had to film a scene (????) with Don DeLillo (the 78 year old author) and he was ambushed by 15 year old girls that wanted him to sign their books. Great. If even only one of them read the book, I have the feeling I did some good.

EIGHT DAYS ON A CAMEL
During the Film Festival in Berlin Robert Pattinson can also be seen as T.E. Lawrence in Werner Herzog’s ‘Queen of the Desert’. A small, but challenging role: with the same role in ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ the actor Peter o’ Toole wrote movie history. During the press screening there were laughs when he first appeared on the screen with the famous keffiyeh on his head. "Eight days on a camel that is about the only thing I remember. If the role would have been bigger, I would not have done it. Werner Herzog made T.E. Lawrence into a funny person. Also I do not look like the real T.E. Lawrence at all."

IMPORTANT NOTE: When in a personal mail Floortje Smith (reporter) is asked about some details, she replies: “He is very cute and nice. Good in Life as well. I’m very curious of what he is going to do next.” She listened to the interview tape again and said: “He said that you never know with small movies you can only be sure when you are on set, but he really really wants to do these movies.” About the Korine project: “That is apparently happening too, but I mean… people… different cast and the budget suddenly changes and all that stuff. But I love the movie. It is great and my part that is completely insane as well.”

NEW Robert Pattinson Junket Pic & Short Interview With BILD

NEW Robert Pattinson Junket Pic & Short Interview With BILD

OH HOT DAMN

 photo 2w650c0.bild.jpg

From BILD (Translated by Olive in our comments)
"Now don't forget to breathe!

Thousands of girls screaming for Him outside the Berlinale Palast. And BILD sitting inside - very close to Robert Pattinson (28).

During his Berlin trip, the Hollywood star took time for an interview. He was tired, betrayed by the rings under his eyes - his busy schedule left him barely a breather. With coffee and chewing gum he kept himself awake.

He has grown a beard (looking good with it!), His hair tousled, he wears sneakers, T-shirt, open shirt: Mr. Sexy down to earth!

BILD-question about his new film "Life" (opening on October 1st), in which he plays the photographer of iconic star James Dean († 24). Whether the role has changed his relationship with photographers? "Today, people only want to see a star in lousy light. At the time it was different, " Pattinson says.

This is the keyword! Fancy a snapshot? "Yes," grins the vampire from the "Twilight" movies and snaps with the phone. At the sight of our Selfies he himself is astonished: "I still have to get used to my blond beard!"

No wonder: For his role as photographer Dennis Stock, he was completely shaved, the hair nicely parted."

Thanks Nancy for the heads up

NEW INTERVIEW: Robert Pattinson on Preparing For His Role As A Photographer & Getting Recognised By A Whole Danish Hockey Team

"Robert Pattinson is searching for challenges"

The Twilight-movies made him an idol for millions of swarming fans. But in "Life", which is being shown at the Berlin film festival, Robert Pattinson wants to clarify that he is also an excellent actor.

- I want to do things that challenges me and things I haven't done before, he says, but adds:

- But if something good comes up which is similar to something I've done before I of course accept.

"Life", directed by Anton Corbijn has a Swedish release date this upcoming fall, is about the friendship between James Dean and photographer Dennis Stock. He's the one who took the classic images of Dean with a cigarette in his mouth, taking a walk at Times Square in New York. James Dean is portrayed by Dane DeHaan and Pattinson plays Stock.

- Of course I had seen the images he took, but I did not know who he was. Anton gave me a taped interview with him where Stock was extremely rude towards the interviewer. He was obviously carrying a lot of baggage.

For many actors it always feels a little extra nervous to portray a real person (Stock passed away a few years ago). Pattinson says he usually feels that "a role is just a role".

- But then I met Dennis son and it made me more aware that I needed to be fair to how his father was in real life.

To play a still photographer demanded that the actor had to be able to handle a camera properly. Pattinson practised for months before shooting began.

- As a photographer the camera is supposed to be like a part of his body, he also uses it to hide behind while taking pictures. I practised with the Leica I use in the movie, but it made me nervous. It was terribly expensive.

The role as the vampire Edward Cullen in the "Twilight"- movies made Robert Pattinson world famous and he has many loyal but sometimes also intrusive fans.

- Although it has become a little bit better in recent years. Or maybe it's me who has become better at handling it, he says.

He is not easy to recognize, because the role in the recently finished drama "Childhood of a leader" made him grow a full beard. However it wasn't helpful on a flight recently.

- There was a team with Danish hockey girls, all in their teens. They recognized me immediately, he says smiling adding:

- A whole danish hockey team. Oh My God!

Imitation of James Dean.

Robert Pattinson is present at this year´s Berlinale with not one, but two movies. In one of them he plays the photographer of James Dean. In our interview the former vampire-star tells how he used to perceive the Hollywood legend.
Berlin. At the luxurious Hotel de Rome in the heart of Berlin, hidden away in a parlor behind the lobby, Robert Pattinson gives interviews for his Berlinale-movie “Life” on Monday. Full beard, tousled hair, on the table in front of him a bottle of Coke. Before we get started on the first question, the 28 year-old quickly pops a stick of gum into his mouth.
In Anton Corbijn`s “Life” Pattinson plays the young photographer Dennis Stock, who discovered James Dean before he had his big break-through in Hollywood. Stock snapped the famous picture of James Dean walking down rainy Times Square in New York with a cigarette between his lips and a popped-up collar. In this interview with German press agency dpa Pattinson talks about his own James Dean-phase and his heartthrob-image.
Q: James Dean is one oft the big icons of our time. What is your image of him?

RP: I think every actor at some point goes through a James Dean-obsession. When I was 16, 17 years old you were practically always imitating James Dean, no matter what the role was… I think James Dean liked people looking at him. But there are other actors who don´t exactly know why they became actors (laughs). I think I´m rather one of those.
Q: What did you do when you imitated Dean?

RP: It´s mostly about body language. For example, something like this (he props his elbow on his thigh and briefly rests his head on his hand). Whoever saw me pretending to be James Dean probably wondered what I was doing!
Q: Since the end of the Twilight Saga you´ve worked with directors like David Cronenberg, Werner Herzog and now Anton Corbijn. Do you think of Twilight as a door-opener for new projects or is it more like a curse because it gave you the image of a heartthrob?

RP: It really only ever brought good things for me. Everybody has to deal with something. There´s something positive about people accusing you of being type-cast; it helps you to try and be casted for different things. It energizes you, in a way. It´s fun to refute such an image.

NEW INTERVIEW: Robert Pattinson Talks To RBB At The Berlin Film Festival

Rob is doing interviews this morning in Berlin ahead of the Life Photocall, Press Conference and Premiere later today. And here's one of the first interviews out from RBB.

The translation has been updated with a better version. Happy reading!

 photo RobertPattinsonpresscon70_1.jpg

I´m exactly where I want to be

Even after two Cronenberg-movies many still doubt the acting skills of Twilight-star Robert Pattinson. On Monday he presents his latest movie “Life” at Berlinale – together with director Anton Corbijn. In this interview the former vampire-star explains how he connected with the movie and why he feels his career is in a good place.

Q: Mr. Pattinson, is James Dean still an icon to your generation?
RP: Definitely. Especially when I was young. I knew James Dean before I even knew I wanted to act. I had read many of his interviews. He was style-defining and has an influence on every actor, simply through his physicality. Anyone who´s leaning forward, trying to look cool, is copying James Dean, really (laughs)

photo B3aL6O_IgAADapvjpg-large.jpgExcerpt from translated cover story in Interview (Germany):
Interview: Are you not scared that your music loses beside your new boyfriend?
FKA twigs: Not as long as the music sets the tone (laughs).
Interview: I was allowed to interview your new friend one year ago. He was the first star my daughter met.*
FKA twigs: Oh? Where? Now I already love your daughter.
Interview: In Los Angeles. She was six weeks old.
FKA twigs: Was he nice to her? Has he picked her up?
Interview: No, then he could have bitten her.
FKA twigs: (laughs) But you have interviewed him?
Interview: He was charming as only Englishmen can be.
FKA twigs: He is so sweet.
Interview: And unexpectedly funny. Still he looked sad in a certain kind. I hope you can take this from him.
FKA twigs: I try!
Interview: Are you afraid to lead a so known long distance relationship?
FKA twigs: Why should I have to?
Interview: Because everybody watches and you find no time for yourself?
FKA twigs: You simply have to take the time. If two persons really want to see each other, then this is going to work. And it works with us quite well!

Interview Translation:

Robert Pattinson: The best and the worst of being famous

Q: Do you think people really know who Robert Pattinson is when they see your movies?
R: I don’t think people really know who I am. And it’s something good. I think that my personality has very little to do with the places people imagine. In order to overcome that my image is saturated everywhere, the best way is to do an interview where I can contradict completely everything they say about me and behave like a completely different person (laughs)

Q: Has anyone ever mistaken you with another actor?
R: Once I was at Comic Con and a journalist thought I had worked in the movie “Snow White”. It was very funny. There were other five journalists there and she kept asking me what it felt to be Prince Charming. I told her she was wrong and even though I kept correcting her she kept refusing to accept that I had done another movie that was not “Snow White”... just because Kristen Stewart was the female lead (laughs)

Q: If you could be another Hollywood star, your age... Who would you pick?
R: James Franco, as an example. He is incredible, for everything he has achieved with his public image. People believe what he does. He is incredible. You see him from a totally different perspective. And I think that it is because all actors have to deal with this kind of mixture between the public’s perception and your characters, because people see us through the eyes of our life and our movies.

Robert Pattinson talks about feeling at home in Cannes and being fan of Werner Herzog

Robert Pattinson talks about feeling at home in Cannes and being fan of Werner Herzog

This latest article is from French magazine, VSD.
image host Thanks to @LeRPattzClub for the translation!

Rebirth : he told us himself, Robert Pattinson is improving his movie culture buying tons and tons of DVDs. So he can get rid of, after the Twilight saga, his hearthrob label.

A hardworking pupil

The former vampire in the Twilight Saga was one the star in Cannes where he presented The Rover, a radical road movie.

"I'm starting to like it". Outside, a huge wind is sweepinp across La Croisette. But this time, Robert Pattinson is not responsible. They are real blast of winds that are trying to destroy the tent that has been set up on the terrace in the Palais des Festivals. The actor will trigger off a tornado in the evening while he was going up the stairs for the midnight screening of The Rover. Since the selection of Cosmopolis last year, Pattinson feels at home in Cannes

"When I saw the reactions to the film, I thought I was on the right path. . I started to be recognized as a true actor, not as the Twilight hearthrob anymore.

However we won't see The Rover as a mere excuse to achieve it. The movie made by the Asutralian director, David MichĂ´d, known for Animal Kingdom, should stay as one of the striking alien movie this year. We discover in an Australia burdened by an economic apocalypse, a guy ( Guy Pearce who is aweseome) angered by the robbery of the only thing he had : his car.. The quest to get it back becomes an obsession. And the corpses are going to add up. We think a lot to Mad Max, another post apocalyptic australian delirium and we are admirative in front of the project's radicalism. ( A few words but a lot of driving). Nihilism to which Pattinson, with rotten teeth, contributes.

We'll soon find him with another crazy director, Werner Herzog "I will never deny the Twilight era. But I love the cinema. I'm currently buying tons and tons of DVDs, in order to improve my movie culture. In front of Herzog, I behaved like a fan. I've still a lot to learn. "

INTERVIEW: Robert Pattinson Talks To Direct Matin

Direct Matin interviewed Robert Pattinson at Cannes where amongst other things he revealed he has seen the trailer for his movie 'Life'.
I used google translate to translate it but I think it reads pretty well! Check it out below.

Translation
Teenage icon at the beginning of his career, Robert Pattinson settled permanently in the Hollywood landscape. In "The Rover " by David MichĂ´d , he interprets a simple guy forced to collaborate with the enemy to find his brother in the Australian desert. It's a controlled turn that the British actor admits was made possible thanks to his encounter with David Cronenberg.

Was it the universe of "The Rover" or your character that first sparked your interest?

I found the script very interesting, but first I had a very strong connection with my character, especially with his way of expressing himself. I had never seen such a character.

Was he was difficult to interpret this simple-minded guy ?

No, it came to me naturally (laughs ) I approached like a street dog that gets thrashed and yet keeps coming back to his master for a little affection.

The film imagines a world devastated by the madness of men . Do you think this is the direction in which our society is heading ?

It could happen but I am more optimistic than that. I have more faith in humanity . In "The Rover ," men are not completely lost, they are not all gone mad . Some still have hope and try to revive the earth. Yet this economic collapse is entirely feasible .

You play one after the other anti- system films, " Maps to the Stars " and "The Rover" , are you politically active ?

I 'm more or less liberal. It's hard to be an actor and not be liberal elsewhere. Perhaps we should more preoccupied with the oceans. But I don't really take politics seriously . When we see that most Western countries are under the leadership of a handful of multinational corporations, I feel that voting is a joke .

Teen sex symbol to actor sought by the greatest directors , what is the secret of your conversion ?

It took me some time . This is 4-5 years I'm trying to build relationships with directors whose work I like and it turns out that things settled at the same time. " Cosmopolis " changed everything. Since my meeting with David Cronenberg, my career took a new turn.

You were in Cannes with two films, " The Rover " and " Maps to the Stars " by David Cronenberg .

This is one of the most exciting places to screen a film. There's an incredible energy . I love the press in Cannes. Journalists are really interested in movies and don't ask questions like "What is your favorite food ? " In France , journalists love cinema .

You have completed the film by Werner Herzog about the spy Gertrude Bell, " Queen of the Desert ." What is your character?

I play young Lawrence of Arabia . HEwas a very close friend of Gertrude Bell during the First World War.

You also play as photographer Dennis Stock in " Life " by Anton Corbijn .

Filming has just been completed . I just saw the trailer the other day. I play a man who photographed James Dean right before he became famous . James was an unknown at this time .

What are your other projects?

In November , I will work with Oliver Assayas on a film called " Idol 's Eye ." It is a gangster film , the true story of a group of thieves who rob the shop of a pawnbroker held by the mafia. It happens in the late 1970s. Olivier Assayas & I met two and a half years but the project only became reality there a few months ago.

Le Figaro, Translation by PAW:

With two films in the official selection at Cannes, actor handle serenely  the "post-Twilight."

On a terrace of the Palais des Festivals swept by the wind, a man with his head tucked into his shoulders, pulls on his cigarette. A bodyguard stands a few meters from him. The anonymous smoker is Robert Pattinson. With two films in official selection, Maps To The Stars, by David Cronenberg, and The Rover, by David MichĂ´d, the actor was one of the attractions in Cannes.  When we arrive at our rendez-vous on the Croisette, he doesn't look fit. The day before, he was doing the closing of the Silencio, the Parisian club relocated in Cannes during the festival. He woke up ten minutes before his appointments with the press.
He is tired and spontaneous, willing to talk about these two filmmakers who helped bury the sexy vampire. The hero of the Twilight Saga pays first his debt to the Canadian Cronenberg. Like in Cosmopolis, in 2012, Pattinson is back in a limousine in Maps to the Stars, but this time behind the wheel. "It's a supporting role, but I said yes before even reading the script. I'd do anything with this guy." His character is a limo driver in Hollywood who presents himself as an "actor writer."  "I used to say that at the beginning but not anymore," jokes the British that moved to Los Angeles several years ago. "I missed London at the beginning, but most of my friends left and Los Angeles is a beautiful city, dynamic. And at the same time very weird. All depends on the people you hang out with..."

Simple Pleasures

In Hollywood, scripts and filmmakers go to him. Thus David MichĂ´d, whose Pattinson admires his first film, Animal Kingdom, meets and chooses him among thousands of actors. Why him?  "Because his face fascinates me, he is both beautiful and atypical" the director tells us. The actor spent seven weeks in the Australian desert, a nine-hour drive from the nearest town. He enjoys solitude, a real luxury for this young 28 year old man harassed by paparazzi.
After his love story and breakup with his partner from Twilight, Kristen Stewart, who made him the favourite prey of the tabloids, the star has rediscovered simple pleasures: "I loved being able to pee peacefully in the nature."  The former model has also enjoyed to break a little his icon image for teens with a borderline character. "At the first reading, I wondered if this guy was mentally handicapped. David MichĂ´d told me he didn't know. I did a lot of improvisation to, but I think they have all been cut off!"
Since, Pattinson shot with Werner Herzog and Anton Corbijn. Upcoming films with James Gray, Harmony Korine and Olivier Assayas has been announced. He would even be one of the contenders for the part of Indiana Jones, as a replacement of Harrison Ford. A boost to his career which doesn't need one.

From Telepro, reverso translation:

After his escapade in Cannes, where he climbed the famous stairs, Robert Pattinson confided in Télépro.

We met the young actor 28-year-old British for the release of the film " The Rover " on Wednesday, June 4th.

Of what do you think of your experience in the Cannes film festival?

It is not the first time when I go on Croisette, but it is always a sort of emotional shock for me, he laughs. I am surprised seeing in which point people are fascinated by films … Sometimes even too much! I was shocked to read certain criticisms on the film, really virulent. I do not understand the anger of some journalists. There is sometimes such an aggressiveness in this Festival. I am told that it is a part of the game in Cannes but, my God, it is only a film after all!

What are your favorite actors and films?

I had to see a million times "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" (editor's note: Terry Gilliam's film with Johnny Depp and Benicio del Toro). I know all the retorts! I am also a big fan of "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" (of Milos Forman, with Jack Nicholson). I also like "The Mask". Jim Carrey is one of my favorite actors. He is a part of the best comedians of his generation. I have a lot of admiration for the funny actors.

After the monstrous success of the Twilight saga, it wasn't easy to turn the " Twilight " page...

"Twilight" was an exceptional adventure. I would not certainly be here without these films. I owe everything to "Twilight", but I am satisfied to have turned the page. I felt safe by saying to me that if one of my projects did not work, I would always have a " Twilight " film. Now that it is not any more the case, I am obliged to take risks in my choices. And it urges me to be better.

Starts at the 10:00 mark. The interview is dubbed but you'll find the translation below the video.

Translation thanks to LeRpattzClub

Didier: Watching the film I remembered something I had read somewhere saying the apocalypse is when the human beings are losing their humanity. Do you think the film is speaking about that?

Rob: Yeah I mean. I guess it's also ... I was thinking a little bit about hope. People have lost the sense of hope with each character and I think it's where they are living, if the world is devastated just like that. Either it's economically speaking or extracted inside the world. There's nowhere to go for people. We're watching them and we're wondering how we can live without hope. Is there a reason to live? And I don't know if the film is telling about that but it's rather flexible how you can interpret it

Didier: I like what you are doing with your career after Twilight. I know you love cinema, we already talked about that. When you choose a project like this one or a Cronenberg, is it a way to put your love for the cinema in your work?

Rob : Yeah I mean , basically after I realized that if you only work with great directors and you'll be never disappointed. No matter what the result is , it's always an amazing experience.

Gorgeous NEW Cannes Portrait Pic & Interview With Robert Pattinson

Le Parisien interviewed Rob and I translated it below using reverso (with some tweeks by me) I'll update when a better translation comes out. But for now it reads ok ;))

Cannes. Robert Pattinson: " seven weeks without paparazzis! "
For "The Rover", Robert Pattinson, the hero of the saga " Twilight ", turned(shot) in the Australian desert, distant from everything. An experience...

Western of end of the world, "The Rover", shown out of competition, takes place in the Australian bush. But if the movie creates a sensation on Croisette, it is thanks to the Hollywood casting: Guy Pearce (" L.A. Confidential ") and Robert Pattinson, the star of "Twilight", playing men fearing neither god nor man, who fight for survival. Yesterday we met the ex-companion of Kristen Stewart, age 28, who is also in Cannes for " Map to the Stars ", by the Canadian David Cronenberg.

We didn't expect you in "The Rover" (out on June 4th), this violent road-trip by Australian director David MichĂ´d...
ROBERT PATTINSON. Me, neither... Since I finished the " Twilight "saga , I'm very lucky. You cannot imagine the number of interesting scripts that I receive, like "The Rover". I had adored "Animal Kingdom", David MichĂ´d's previous movie. So, when he offered me the character of Rey, this young American seriously wounded, abandoned in the desert, who finds himself in front of an embittered and uncommunicative Australian farmer played by Guy Pearce, I turned darker in the adventure. It is a merciless encounter!

Was the shooting difficult in the Australian bush?
On the contrary, it was great! We spent seven weeks in magnificent, wild regions, distant from any civilization. It was nine-hour drive from Adelaide. Between us, without mobile, without TV, etc. And without paparazzis! It was another life, in the depths of the desert. This inhuman atmosphere is felt through the movie, this impression of end of the world as in "Mad Max".

You are also in Cannes with " Map to the Stars "...
I believe that I would make all of Cronenberg's movies if he asked me. Two years after "Cosmopolis", where my character lived permanently in his big limousine, it amused me that he trusts me with the role of a chauffeur of stars in Hollywood. It is a secondary role, but oh how important, beside the great Julianne Moore.

For an actor of your stature, Hollywood, means what?
A bonfire of vanities. A wild, hard place, full of cash, where ego and jealousies are terribly aggravated. Where everybody wants to be famous at all costs. It is very, very hard to live there. Especially, if you have no serious professional circle of acquaintances and no real friends to protect you from all the temptations. I get out of it well. I manage to live my personal life and the celebrity. Probably because I know the dangers and the traps...

"Twilight", it is finished well and truly...
Ah yes! It is finished well and truly! I am too old now to play vampires! There are so many directors with whom I absolutely want to work.

Which ones?
Brady Corbet, a young director who is going to direct me in " The Childhood of A Leader ", Harmony Korine (" Spring Breakers ") soon. And the Frenchman Olivier Assayas for gangsters' movie which I'll shoot at the end of the year in the United States. I also hope one day for Quentin Tarantino...

Robert Pattinson: "Everyone is a little crazy in Hollywood"

INTERVIEW - Far from "Twilight" actor Robert Pattinson English continues his journey to the land of auteur cinema.

He is in Cannes to present two films: the road movie "The Rover", the Australian David Michod and "Maps to the Stars", the Canadian master David Cronenberg.

Robert, you are in Cannes to present but not not one but two films. Is this a coincidence?
This is a nice surprise, although I admit that I really wanted that The Rover in particular is shown here. Actually we missed all the other festivals in the hope to be here. It has even staked everything on Cannes because it is the most beautiful in the world. In particular for a movie as different as this one.

As Maps to the stars, this is a film constructed outside the Hollywood system. Is this an indicator of the direction you want your career after Twilight adventure?
What guides me is the desire to work with a director. I realized that if I worked with the best in the world, there were chances that I am happy with the result (smiles). I have work experience really satisfactory. There are twenty filmmakers with whom I want to work and I just started. The next? This year Harmony Korine and Olivier Assayas. Then James Gray in January. We met, we became friends. And waited to find the right project.

In your place, many young players try to land a superhero role, or at least a role in a big franchise. Have you considered?
I never auditioned for that kind of film. And I'm not even sure I know how to make a superhero. If I have my place in this world (he thinks). It doesn't mean that I wouldn't do a big studio film at some point. Besides I look full. But I really struggled to find myself there, as an actor.

In The Rover, you play a guy a little simpleton, which we do not know much except that he is the scapegoat of his brother. How did you get the role?
On first reading, I heard his voice in my head. That of a guy who talks so low force being told to close his mouth. (laughs). So much so that every word that comes out of his mouth is suffering. It was great fun though watching the first cut, some of my dialogue was inaudible!

You are also the generic Maps to the stars, David Cronenberg. Hollywood depicts it is it as black as you know?
I've always had a good time in Hollywood. Actually I like her dirty side as long as I do not spend the whole year, that I do not become a caricature as we see in the film. Remain an observer: I can tell you that there is a lot of weird people out there.

You often come across?
All the time! Actually I am perhaps now ...

Do not tell me you sell your stool on the Internet as the young actors of the movie!
Ah if I could ... (laughs) Frankly everyone in Hollywood is a little crazy. The actors are in essence, if we consider that we are asked to play the variety of human emotions, sometimes in the same film. I assure you that you will struggle to meet more people dingo! (laughs)
