Robert Pattinson and David Cronenberg's Maps To The Stars cast praised!

Robert Pattinson and David Cronenberg's Maps To The Stars cast praised!

 photo RobSJJD.jpg

I love when news drops for Rob films because we get to have these awesome roundup posts of the positive buzz. We aren't the only ones excited for Robenberg 2.0 and the cast that's coming along for the ride. Check it out!

CriterionCast:
It’s about damn time this picture gets ready to go….the auteur will be joined by one hell of a cast. This sounds like yet another superb satire from one of today’s great satirists, and it’s interesting to see Pattinson re-team with his Cosmopolis director for another film. I was a huge fan of that picture, and really think this could be the start of a really exciting friendship. Hopefully this one can arrive sooner rather than later.
ScreenRant:
Pattinson has been attached to the project almost since its conception and, as was the case with Cronenberg’s 2012 thriller Cosmopolis, it’s largely thanks to the involvement of the highly bankable star that Maps to the Stars has received funding and is heading into production.
CinemaBlend:
Few directors have had such noticeable career arcs as mad genius David Cronenberg. His early career was filled with paranoid science fiction that thrived on mutilated humans, and that aesthetic was left behind and a more thoughtful approach to the stranger plateaus of the human condition took over his work during the 1990s. And in the last ten years, he’s given us a handful of stories drowning in gritty realism as well as an uncharacteristic novel adaptation and the birth of psychoanalysis.
So of course it makes sense that his next project would have one of the stranger plotlines around, but as per usual, he’s got a great cast already involved.
TheFilmStage:
Yeah, it sounds like something we’re very much looking forward to…
DreadCentral:
A-list cast lines up…
ThePlaylist:
…It’s also a “ghost story,” which certainly raises an intrigued eyebrow. The cast is top shelf…
MTV:
“Cosmopolis” director David Cronenberg may have found his new muses. The auteur has just enlisted Robert Pattinson and his “Cosmopolis” co-star Sarah Gadon for his next project, “Maps to the Stars.”
There are a few more excerpts on MapsToTheStarsFilm. Kate and I will be over there covering the film and all involved and of course bringing you the Rob specifics here. :)

Who knew all the answers to our Robert Pattinson questions and won a copy of Beautiful Bastard and $100 to La Perla?

The wait is over! Who are the proud winners of our Beautiful Bastard giveaway? First lets find out the answers to our questions. When did Rob tell ladies they should just throw their panties at him? In 2008, on a Seattle radio talk show just before Twilight came out. He was unfiltered and hilarious and pure Rob.

How about the photoshoot that inspired the look of Beautiful Bastard in The Office? It was none other than GQRob! He was suited up with rolled sleeves looking positively sinful with that long tousled hair and smoldering gaze.

And the last question was, "what is the title of the fanfiction Rob has admitted to reading?"

Most recently during Breaking Dawn Part 2 promo, Josh Horowitz played the Yes/No game with the cast. One of questions was if they'd ever read any Twilight fanfiction and Rob said he read Master of the Universe. He was ahead of the game.

There you have it! 2008, GQ and Master of the Universe. Using Random.org, the winner of our Beautiful Bastard giveaway which includes $100 gift card to La Perla or Victoria's Secret and an advance copy of Beautiful Bastard is....................................

Alice had one more lovely thing to share about her fanfic experience and the Twilight community. I think we can all relate to what she says about the relationships that have come from the community as a whole:
The other part about the Twilight community, and more specifically theTwilight Fan Fiction community, that I loved so much were therelationships that were forged. The commonality, the frenzy when a newchapter would update, the thrill of discovering a new story and thensharing it with others. That's why I still go on and on about booksthat I read now. When I find a book I love I just want everyone elseto know about it too! That's half the fun of being on Twitter, isfinding out what everyone else is going bonkers over. Alice doesn't shy away from her fanfic roots and the publisher shared a wonderful quote from Alice about her experience with the Twilight series and its influence on her writing:
Reading Twilight, and in turn reading fan fiction, made me rediscover what it was that I loved about reading. I had been an avid reader when I was growing up, and somewhere I lost my passion for it. I was still reading, but it was a lot of non fiction, science, economic, very dry stuff that I thought looked impressive while reading on a plane. But it was Twilight that turned me back on to STORY. To invest me so thoroughly in characters again, to make me wonder, what might happen next? Or what might have happened if so and so didn't do this and that. And fan fiction gave me that extension, this wonderful way to see what else was possible for these characters.

I've been an avid Twilight fanfic reader for over three and half years. I also know many of you venture into that world so you might be familiar with a guy who had a tendency to bang some walls. ;) Well that Wallbanger is now a published Wallbanger.

I have vivid memories of being curled up in my leopard Snuggie on the streets of Westwood, camping for New Moon premiere, and reading. One of the fanfics I was reading was this story. It was fun (and funny), sexy (with sex), and I loved figuring out which version of Rob matched Wallbanger in my mind. I do that with all fics, don't you? Since VFRob was a big deal back in Nov. 2009, he influenced my Robmatch when I read this line: I could picture him: soft faded jeans, hiking boots a la Jake Ryan from Sixteen Candles, off-white Irish cable knit turtleneck sweater, hair all in disarray.

Oh yeah. I'd like to go to there.

The publisher for Wallbanger has graciously given us 5 copies of the eBook to giveaway to our readers! For the next 5 weeks, we'll be gifting out Wallbanger and Alice Clayton's first series for the runner-up. The publisher has another gift for us after the season but we'll tell you about that giveaway later. ;)

Here's what Alice had to say about fan fiction, Wallbanger and Rob:

Fan fiction gave me a voice. It gave me a community. It gave me the courage to trust my sense of silly and throw it all at the wall and see what would stick. Writing fan fiction was the single most broadening experience of my adult life. Other than Shirtless Rob Day. Which is still the best day ever. (Tink: AMEN.)

Wallbanger was such a fun story for me to write, and while I wasn't sure if I would ever publish it, it just kept calling to me. Or thumping to me, yeah thumping. That's how Wallbanger rolls. I had to put it back out there, I had to trust that this story, regardless of where it came from, was strong enough to stand on its own. And the response has been overwhelming. I'm so proud of this book, and the community it came from. When each chapter of Wallbanger went up, I got emails from readers around the world, telling me what they liked and what they loved. What made them laugh and what made them mad. And as new readers discover the story of Pink Nightie Girl and her Wallbanger, they tell me the same things. It's amazing.

Thanks, twifreakgal, for the heads up! I loved this because it was my view. LOL I didn't take any video or pictures, I just observed - something I rarely get to do. It was pretty cool to see our fandom frenzy and the ease Rob takes it. The energy is intense and I'll miss seeing it on a big scale like you get with a franchise film. We'll see if Rob makes a move to go that route again in his career. For now, enjoy the video of Rob signing for fans in the bleachers at the LA premiere.

A couple of our readers had pics to share like, MrsRob :)) I know several of you went to the premieres so if you'd like to share pics, just email us.

Our reader, Michelle, sent us this awesome encounter story and great pics of Rob on the press platforms. How she survived is beyond me!
Hi ladies, I had the most unbelievable pleasure of working with E! last night and stood with the host and camera crew during ALL the interviews for the World Premier in LA! My cousin is the camera man for E! and he got me in! The producer of E! actually had me working, handing the host and hostess there question cards during there interviews! It was amazing and something I'll never forget! Additionally, I had the pleasure of chatting with Josh Horowitz from MTV as well. His platform was inches from ours and he was so sweet! I asked him if he knew where the Robsessed girls were and he didn't, but was clearly interested. We chatted more and after the show, his last interviewee was Kristen and when his camera crew wrapped he looked so sad. He just stood there staring at the ground while they packed up. I finally asked him if he was okay and he said "No, I can't believe it's over"! It was heartbreaking! I love you guys! Team Robsessed Forever!

Awww I love it! I had my own encounter with Josh too. I'll share it even though it's not exactly a Rob encounter however I did mention Rob and thanked Josh.

"It Is Quite Exciting To Be Thinking From Now On, You’re Not Going To Go Back To A Twilight Movie" - Robert Pattinson

The Washington Post did a phone interview with Rob recently where he spoke about (of course) the end of Twilight, what's coming up next for him and LOTS more.
It's a good read, get comfy.......

I remember being at Comic-Con in 2008, prior to the release of the first movie, and thinking that you and Kristen Stewart seemed particularly shellshocked by the massive fan response. Do you remember what was going on in your mind then?

Pattinson: Yeah, I mean, it’s kind of exciting, but it just seems so separate. It’s always seemed so separate — that whole part of it — from doing the actual movies. That’s never changed for me. It’s a totally independent part of the job. You always get asked more about that aspect of it than anything else, you know, all the screaming and stuff. And I’ve never had a single lucid, analytical thought about it. It still just seems like screaming to me.

Why do you think people tend to ask more questions about that aspect of “Twilight”? Just because it seems so insane?

Pattinson: Yeah, I mean, it is the weirdest thing. There’s plenty of people who do movies and even big movies and stuff, but it’s weird to have that reaction for a series ... but I don’t know why it happens.

So you haven’t gotten more used to than you were three or four years ago?

Pattinson: You kind of get used to it a little bit but you still get a good energy. I like [being] at Comic-Con and stuff, it’s nice to have that size a crowd. Especially at Comic-Con, you get the Q&A or whatever so there is some kind of performance involved. At the premieres and stuff, where it’s just screaming at you, that’s kind of harder. It’s quite tiring, because you don’t really know what you’re supposed to be doing.

Your last day of shooting on “Breaking Dawn Part 2” was in April, is that right?

Pattinson: Um. [Pauses] God, I have no idea.

It was earlier this year, let’s say.

Pattinson: Oh, no no no. It was ages ago.

Was it? I thought you did some reshoots earlier this year.

Pattinson: Oh yeah. Maybe.

Robert Pattinson Talks Fatherhood, New Projects & 3 Hour Long Auditions In A New Interview

Loving this new Australian interview with Robert Pattinson where he Talks Fatherhood, New Projects & 3 Hour Long Auditions

Photobucket

The 26-year-old Briton is banking on a soul-tempering pilgrimage to the world's most arid desert regions - first the Australian Outback then the Middle East - to free him from Edward Cullen's immortal curse.

After five films shot in Twilight's netherworld, the softly spoken Pattinson is keen to immerse himself in material that is a little, well, earthier.

Futuristic thriller The Rover, which starts shooting in South Australia in January, and Mission: Blacklist, based on the true story of US Army interrogator Eric Maddox, would appear to fit the bill.

In Sydney for a fan-oriented event to promote Breaking Dawn - Part 2, Pattinson identified the limitations of playing the same character over and over as the thing he will miss least about the phenomenally successful vampire franchise that catapulted him to stardom.

"Because (Edward) is kind of in stasis, it's difficult to play after a while," Pattinson says.

"You do five movies where your whole motivation is this relationship and it's never, ever going to change.

"You don't die. And you don't get hurt. And you don't age. So you are kind of stuck.

"It's nerve-racking when you go into the fifth movie. You're thinking, 'I don't know what else to do'. You have nowhere to go!"

Thankfully, the introduction of Bella and Edward's child, Renesmee, in Part 2 gave him something to work with.

Quick excerpt from the Rob interview:
Did the Cosmopolis experience change you?
Just getting that part changes you a lot, and not having to force anything to play it. I can’t believe that I haven’t done a film since then. It’s ridiculous. It’s making me a bit crazy.
How long have you not been working?
Practically a year, but in that time I’ve had to promote like four films [laughs hysterically], which is also ridiculous. I feel like that’s my whole job because it’s all I do. Before, I thought having a Twilight movie after every project would make me be less afraid. But, as soon as this is over, you realize that it’s not easy to make decisions. I think, in part, it has to do with the fact that I’m getting older. Now I can do different things, I start to fit into different roles and, of course, I can’t play a high school student [laugs].
So it hasn’t been an intentional pause…
There was a while where I couldn’t find anything at all. And, suddenly, a few months ago, I found a bunch of things, all at once. But none of those projects started until the fall. Fall, spring and summer are full, four movies at once, but it’s taken me a long time to be able to organize it. I really want to start working again.
Mission: Blacklist, which is about the US soldier whose interrogations led to finding Saddam Hussein, is actually your next project…
I think so. The director’s in Iraq, staying in the same palace where the guy we’re making the movie about stayed. He’s sending me pictures. It’s crazy. We’d like to film in Iraq, but it’s going to be very difficult because of safety. I wonder if Afghanistan would make a good Iraq double [laughs].
Is writing something that attracts your attention? What kind of books would you like to be the author of?
Surely something like ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ [laughs hysterically]. I would really like to do that and invert the roles: making the woman the one who punishes the man. It’d be so much fun. Something like ‘Misery’, but really he loves to be in that situation.

Robert Pattinson talks to Ciak about Breaking Dawn Part 2

Robert Pattinson talks to Ciak about Breaking Dawn Part 2

Photobucket

Translation:

Ciak: Would you make another movie of the series?
"Only if Stephanie Meyer wrote it. But at this point I wonder what could possibly happen. Maybe Edward could turn into a bad guy? Yeah, that would be something."

Ciak: What was the weirdest experience you've had with a fan?
"At the last Comic Con in San Diego, I was with Kristen who was also promoting Snow White and the Huntsman, and a girl approached me to ask if I felt comfortable being Prince Charming. I wasn't able to convince her that it wasn't me..."

Ciak: Wasn't it a blow to your ego?
"Not really, it only made me laugh. There was another time during a road trip, I found myself in a small village in an Indian reservation in New Mexico. As soon as I got off the car, I was surrounded by a group of kids who started calling me by my name. This should compare with story of Comic Con."

Ciak: Which was the hardest movie of the series?
"Breaking Dawn. It's two movies but we shot them back to back. Which means a 2 hours in the make-up trailer every day for 8 months."

Ciak: What will you miss next year?
"The 3 months in Vancouver. I grew attached to that city."

Ciak: Do you think that Bella becoming stronger somehow represents today's society and women's more and more important role?
"I don't know, but it would be a good thing to be honest."

Ciak: Do you like the archetypal strong woman?
"I grew up in a house full of women, my mother, my sisters, my father even. No, no, it's a joke, don't write that, I wouldn't want my dad to get hurt. I'm sorry, my sense of humour is a bit weird."

Ciak: What have these 5 years been like?
"A revolution. I never would have thought I could have this career or I would live in America. The downside is that it would have been better if it had happen before twitter and phones with cameras."

Ciak: What do you think of this job?
"We have become the most conservative people in the world. You can't even raise your voice, because everything will affect your career."

Ciak: Do you ever feel alone?
"It's hard to make new friends because you always think they actually want something else."

Ciak: The wrongest thing people say about you?
"That I'm like Edward. People tend to forget that Twilight is a movie."

Ciak: An actor you like?
"James Franco. He's intriguing in eveything he does, and he seems to have so many interests that he never does the same things."

New/Old translated interviews with Robert Pattinson (Tu, Star Club & Cannes)

We got 3 translated interviews for you guys and you know how those go so rub your temples and enjoy :)

UPDATE: Adding another translated interview, Star Club magazine (French)

SC: Hello Rob, what did you learn from your experience filming Twilight?

RP: I learned to put things into perspective, that the circus surrounding an actor's life is fleeting. You can be worshipped one day and hated the next. For now, the craze around Twilight is still there but I'm not naive, a few months after the last movie is out, people will have moved on. Our replacement is already here. I'm thinking mostly about The Hunger Games actors.

In the end, you're still happy to have played Edward, right?

Rob: Yes, he's an extension of myself, like a good friend. He helped me learn more about myself and I will be eternally grateful. I grew up though and if tomorrow Stephenie Meyer writes a sequel to Twilight, I'd gladly read it. I don't think people would like me reprising the role. I'd be too old to play him again.

What was your life like before your success?

Rob: I had a hard time finding roles. It's simple, for three years I found nothing but small productions that payed around $40 a day. Just between you and me, I was seconds away from giving up so when I was offered the role of Edward I couldn't believe it.

You didn't see yourself in the role of a vampire?

Rob: I didn't have a choice, I was broke! Nobody believed in me except for Catherine Hardwicke (editor's note: the director) who sort of had to force the producer's hands a little. In the end, this role helped me improve my everyday life and my life style. On the other hand, I lost what I cherished the most: my freedom. Some told me that it's the price for success. I'm sorry to disagree but I feel like it's a price too high to pay.

So did you view the end of the filming as freeing?

Rob: It's strange, I felt like releasing a big 'phew' of relief but at the same time I felt sad. For now, I know that I'm successful. Will it last? I have no idea, but if tomorrow I encounter movie failures, I won't cry about it.

Let's go back to your teenage years. I'd like to know in what kind of state of mind you were the day before the start of a new school year...

Rob: If you're looking for the speech of a the kid who was at the top of the class, you're not gonna get that from me. I wasn't a bad student either. When I was fifteen, I was a boy who was disciplined, who would learn all his lessons and pay attention in class until the day I started reading. I thought I learned more from life by reading than at school. I'm pretty please by the way that I indirectly influenced young people to take pleasure in reading. Indeed Twilight helped a whole generation to love reading about a love story as captivating as it was fascinating.

The big question! If you were to become a dad tomorrow, would you prefer to have a girl or a boy first?

Rob: I think that I'd have a better understanding with a boy. Girls are hard to understand. The instruction manual that comes with them is 800 pages long and written in Chinese! And if you know how to read it, you realise that you're still missing 32 more chapters that are essential and you have to improvise. Whereas with a boy, it's easy. Sports, tv, a video game, a big bowl of ...., some Coke and he's happy *laughs*!

Looking extremely casual in an old t-shirt, baseball cap, faded jeans and a little unshaven, Pattinson, 26, looks happy and relaxed to have the movie that changed his life behind him. As usual, he doesn’t talk about his relationship with co-star Kristen Stewart, but talks a little of what’s to come post-Twilight, as well as addressing the rumors about him playing the lead in the film adaptation of 50 Shades of Grey. He will next star in David Cronenberg’s Cosmopolis.

Q: So now that it’s finally over, let’s go back. What was the most touching moment for you in the movie, including the one we haven’t seen yet?

Robert Pattinson: Out of the whole series?

Q: Yeah, what touched you the most and the hardest one?

RP: Probably that a bit in the first one, just when Bella is in the hospital, and she says, ‘Don’t ever leave me again,’ and I say, ‘Where am I going to go?’ or something like that. I still think that’s kind of my favorite scene in it mainly because it was so different what happened after it, and we made up the lines there and that’s how different the shoot was. Like every movie afterwards, the idea of making up lines, is kind of just unheard of and so I loved that bit. But the hardest was probably the birth scene in the first part of this one mainly because it was hilarious, and it was supposed to be really serious. (laughs) And there was one shot where we had to look directly into the camera, and I was crying with laughter, and I’d have to go down and chew the baby out and I would like, I was stopping tears from coming out of my eyes, and it looks like I’m crying in the thing. And I’m not supposed to be able to cry as a vampire and I’m like crying in the scene but I was laughing.

Q: Is it cool to see Kristen play and look different as a vampire? She’s sexy and not clumsy anymore?

RP: For some reason, I listened to Taylor at Comic Con talking about the clumsy thing, and I thought, ‘Was she clumsy?’ (laughs). And everyone always talked about the clumsiness. But yeah, I never understood it. It’s always the aspect of female characters and young female characters that’s supposed to be unattractive about them when they are clearly not unattractive? (laughs) It’s like, she’s really clumsy, and I’ve never met a genuinely clumsy person or noticed someone who is like handicapped by being so clumsy, (laughs) like it’s so weird.

Q: Do you think you have a quality of timeless gentlemen?

RP: I don’t know. I guess I’m like relatively sensitive. Also, I had two older sisters so I grew up with lots of girls and so I guess I kind of have a different mentality cause of that. And I never really played any team sports or anything, (laughs) so I guess all those things add up to that. But yeah, I mean, I don’t know why but I’m not getting cast as them anymore. (laughter)

Q: Do you like that type of character?

RP: Yeah, sometimes, sometimes it’s really nice. I was watching Water For Elephants on TV the other day, because it’s not got to the point where it’s far enough away and I don’t even recognize myself, and I just thought it was really sweet. It’s like an old-fashioned movie, and yeah, it is quite fun playing it. When you are doing it, it’s kind of annoying, because my instincts, they want to go to the absolute possible place and you know that it never, this person would never do this, and most of the characters I play are innately kind people which is quite nice, because people aren’t genuinely very kind.

Q: So do you have this sort of urge now to do something, play the mean guy, play the meathead?

RP: I kind of always did that up until Twilight. Like, apart from Harry Potter, I mean every part I played is always kind of like sort of weird. But I don’t know, I find kind of random things, the movie I’m doing next, is a real guy, an interrogator and he’s not particularly weird or anything, he’s just like, he’s kind of, well he’s a little weird.

Q: What is your next project?

RP: It’s about the guy who found Saddam Hussein. It’s a military interrogator, based on this guy called Eric Maddox. It’s this crazy story, but he basically talked to about 250 people, none of whom were on any of the US Armies Wanted Lists, and found Saddam Hussein when no one even knew he was in Iraq. So it was an interesting story.

Q: Have you read 50 Shades of Grey and did you know it was based on you and would you star in it?

RP: I think the author has written me out of it. I saw some interview earlier and they went, oh, it could never be him. And I’m like ,’Hey, I’m going to make you pay for that.’ (laughter)

Q: She said you could never play the role that was based on you?

RP: It’s funny seeing all these other actors so openly like vying for it. I’ve never seen that happen before. It’s so strange. I haven’t read the whole thing, I read bits of it, there’s a book called 50 Sheds of Grey, (laughter) have you seen that book? That’s amazing, just a picture book of 50 Grey Sheds, (laughter) and it’s literally on the New York Times Best Seller List. People have got the wrong read. (Laughs)

Q: You said you just watched Water For Elephants. How do you feel when you watch your own movies? Does it always take a while for you to separate yourself?

RP: Yeah, a couple of years at least. But I really like the first Twilight movie now, cause it’s on TV constantly, (laughs) so I’ve seen it like six times, but I remember watching it the first time at the premiere and I had to leave. I left and I sat in the car and it was also kind of overwhelming to me. I started to have a panic attack in the cinema, and then I ran out and got in the car, and I didn’t even realize there was someone videotaping me through the car window, they are right next to me sitting and I was like ‘Oh god!’ Now it’s kind of different. But I find it really hard to watch stuff although I watched Cosmopolis and because it’s so stylized I found that not too hard to watch.

Q: What do you think about when you watch yourself in movies?

RP: I don’t really know what I’m doing when I’m doing it, (laughs) I find a lot of the time it’s like tossing a coin and if something comes out good or not when you are doing it, even in the scene… I don’t understand these actors who can consistently turn up to work and just be like in ‘acting mode.’ And just be really good all the time. Like I can literally walk onto a set and have absolutely no idea, I’ve done all of my preparation or whatever and have no idea what’s going to happen until I open my mouth at all. And I can also feel that something went terribly, when it’s the best scene in the movie or whatever. I have no idea ever.

Q: You are a method actor.

RP: (laughs) I don’t know if I’m completely together in my own method.

Q: Did you have to prepare differently for this one? There was a lot of physicality and also and also, anything you can give us about the final sequence, how was it to shoot?

RP: It’s so funny, (laughs) it’s supposed to be a secret, but they put it in the trailer, like Summit was saying, ‘Don’t talk about the battle.’ And I’m like, ‘It’s in the trailer, what are you talking about?’ (laughter) But yeah, I did tons. I worked a lot at the beginning, because I had to start with my shirt off, but that’s it, (laughs) but we shot the battle stuff at the end. And so I was totally out of shape by that point. (laughter)

Q: How did you do it?

RP: I’m all right at doing it. It’s film fighting, you don’t really have to be that fit, cause it’s not really like normal fighting, like you have to kind of be quite flaily, and I’m quite like mal-coordinated. I’m quite gangly, and so it’s easy for me to kind of do, because if you are throwing a punch, you throw a punch and it’s so huge, where most people who like actually box a lot or something, are so used to keeping it tight, and it feels so fake to them. But I find that kind of stuff quite easy, and can do it on one or two takes. Like everyone else who were really physically fit has to do like ten. But the only annoying thing is the wire stuff, but I never see anyone who’s good at like anything on a wire, it’s always through the operator. If you get a good wire team, then you will look good. If something is not that well organized, you will just look terrible, no matter how good you are at it.

Q: Were you scared?

RP: I mean, most of the time you were just so tired, (laughs) the whole time you were just going through the motions.

Q: Do you have a memento from the set?

RP: I have almost every costume from the first one because I was wearing that stuff for about two years, (laughs) afterwards.

Q: You are in the baseball scene, do you have a baseball outfit?

RP: No, that was like rented. We were pretty low budget on the first one. (Laughter)

Q: What was your favorite one that you kept?

RP: I had these jeans which I kept. I literally bought all these clothes and then got the company to pay me back on the first one. You could do anything on the first movie, it was crazy. I was stuck in Vancouver getting my Visa by myself. I started just borrowing my costumes (laughs) and I kept them all for years afterwards.

Q: What a huge difference.

RP: Yeah. And the funny thing was, I had all these kinds of things from the first one. I was wearing independent little labels from cool shops in Vancouver and then by the last one, the more and more money that became involved, then there would be these contracts with clothes companies and so like if you look at the last one, every single vampire is wearing G Star or Bellstaff. (laughter) No matter which side they are on, (laughter) it’s crazy. And they all have the label on the side as well. It’s nuts. (Laughs)

Q: After all these years, what will you miss the most?

RP: There is something incredibly familiar and nice about it and it’s normally what you are doing when you turn up on a movie set when you know everyone is so, like normally it’s like the first day of school every time you start, but when you know people. It’s strange, and it is pretty nice. Like when you are doing a job where everything changes all the time, say doing a TV show, but at the same time, that’s one of the greatest things about acting as well, (laughs) you can just leave everybody behind.

Q: After all this success, what do you do to keep grounded?

RP: I don’t know, I mean I guess I’m quite a genuinely insecure person, and so it’s not very hard for me. I mean, it’s sort of like, I think even if someone says that something is good you’ve got to be pretty dumb to let your head get big, especially now when everything about your life is reported. I don’t understand people who still have a big ego who are actors. It’s like, everyone knows who you are, everyone knows you are just a vain moron, (laughter) and that’s what every actor is. (laughter)

Q: What do you miss doing the most that you can’t do now?

RP: I really miss going to the cinema, especially in LA, because LA has the best cinemas in the world. I used to go four times a week, five times a week, and that and just being able to just I mean this obvious anonymity kind of thing, you want to be able to sit in a place and not worry and just listen to people or watch people and it’s the camera phones, it’s the camera phones and TMZ, it just ruined everything. And in a few years, people will be like oh Goddamnitt I wish we never bought into TMZ, now we’ve ruined it for ourselves. (laughter)

Q: What’s the best thing that you’ve got?

RP Just being able to do this job. I mean, it is the best job in the world. I just wish I had gotten it like 12 years ago. (laughs)

Q: Thank you.

Robert Pattinson talks to the Sun-Times: "I can’t make myself change. I can’t develop an attitude"

Lots of giggly Rob in this interview. Too bad it wasn't video recorded because we can't get enough of that giggle.

Photobucket

From the Chicago Sun-Times:

It has been a summer of discontent for Robert Pattinson. Since his longtime girlfriend and “Twilight” co-star Kristen Stewart was photographed in intimate poses with another man a few weeks ago, the heat on his life has been daunting.

How does he deal with it?”

“It drives you nuts,” he says of all the hoopla. “It’s just nuts.

“I don’t know how I cope with it. I really don’t know,” he says in a good-natured voice. (Tink: Yet he copes with it all so admirably.)

“At times, I find the whole thing pretty funny. It is pretty funny. My life is kind of ridiculous to me. It’s so absurd at time.”

Last week he fended off countless questions about the scandal while making the media rounds to promote “Cosmopolis,” his new film with director David Cronenberg (“A History of Violence,” “Eastern Promises”).

Through it all, he felt the love of his fans. The Twi-hards definitely have been Team Robert.

“I don’t credit that to myself,” Pattinson says. (Tink: That's because you're crazy and modest.) “It’s just that there is something elemental about the ‘Twilight’ books and the movies. The core story has connected to people.

“The fan love from that is kind of amazing. I guess it’s so much better than everyone hating you.”

By now he should have developed an attitude — if only he knew how.

“I want to change. I can’t make myself change. I can’t develop an attitude,” Pattinson says with a goofy giggle that is his trademark. (Tink: Never change Rob. You're awesome.)

Adds Cronenberg, “I’ve seen him even try to change and it’s pathetic.”

In “Cosmopolis,” based on the novel by Don DeLillo, Pattinson plays a 28-year-old financial whiz kid and billionaire asset manager whose world is exploding. He gets into his stretch limo to get a haircut from his father’s old barber while wagering his company’s massive fortune on a bet against the Chinese Yuan. His trip across the city becomes a journey as he runs into city riots, various visitors and intimate encounters.

Filming in a limo for so long wasn’t claustrophobic.

“I actually kind of enjoyed it,” he says. “In the beginning, I wanted to stay in the car for the entire day. But it was so unbearably hot. I couldn’t really do this method.

“The car made me really concentrate.”

The London-born actor does an American accent in the movie. “I don’t even know what accent I was doing half of the time,” he admits. “I always found that the dialect was written in the lines.”

This fall, he plays vampire Edward Cullen in “Breaking Dawn — Part 2,” meant to be the final installment of the “Twilight” franchise.

Fans of the series are about to enter the depression zone, and Pattinson offers some words of hope.

“I’m sure they’ll have a ‘Twilight’ TV series spinoff soon. They’ll do it again,” Pattinson says.

Would he ever play Edward Cullen again?

“Who knows?” he says. “The only thing that creates a little bit of a problem is that I’m supposed to be 17 forever.

“I’m not sure I can be 17 forever,” he says with another giggle.

He is excited to see what the future holds for him in Hollywood and elsewhere.

“Life is all about luck,” he says. “Getting to this point was lucky. I just hope that my luck holds out.”

Ask him what he knows about life at this point that he didn’t know when he was younger, and he giggles again.

“I basically have learned that I know absolutely nothing,” he says. “I thought I knew it all. Again, I knew absolutely nothing.”

Robert Pattinson and David Cronenberg continue their press interviews for Cosmopolis

The Boston Globe had a sit down with Robert Pattinson and David Cronenberg. They're quite the pair and their promotional tour for Cosmopolis in the US has been stellar. There are a few interviews in this post so have a cup of tea or coffee and enjoy the reads. :)
Cult hero filmmaker David Cronenberg and “Twilight” leading man Robert Pattinson rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange last week to promote their new psychological thriller, “Cosmopolis.” Both men agree that their visit was a bit strange. After all, “Cosmopolis,” based on the book by Don DeLillo, is a capitalist critique that, while having been published in 2003, speaks to the Occupy Wall Street movement and creates a disturbing portrait of the emptiness of the 1 percent.

The English actor and the Canadian director, who called us shortly after Pattinson made a much-hyped appearance on “Good Morning America,” admitted that their “Cosmopolis” experience has been odd at times and, much like their film, uncomfortable with a bit of irony. There’s the strangeness of the movie itself. Then there are the “Twilight” fans who love Pattinson enough to expose themselves to an R-rated film about the economy that involves an eccentric millionaire getting a proctology exam in the back of a limo. Adding to the weirdness is Pattinson’s involvement in a very public cheating scandal; his longtime girlfriend Kristen Stewart recently apologized for being unfaithful with Rupert Sanders, the director of “Snow White and the Huntsman.” After Stewart went public, Pattinson disappeared for weeks, was rumored to be hiding out at Reese Witherspoon’s house, then resurfaced, to the delight of the paparazzi, to promote “Cosmopolis” on the red carpet and elsewhere.

It’s been a strange trip, but Cronenberg and Pattinson seem wonderfully comfortable — at least with each other — amid all the awkwardness.
Q. You both have said that you filmed this movie in chronological order, and I know that with many movies, the last scenes are shot first. Was that a luxury — to film from start to finish?

Cronenberg: One of the trickiest things that I had to learn as a director was exactly that. I mean, suddenly you’re forced to shoot the last scene of the movie first. And it’s hard for the actors because they don’t know who they are yet and they’re doing their death scene. As an actor myself, I was in Clive Barker’s movie “Nightbreed,” and the first thing we shoot was my character getting killed. And I said a typical actor thing. I said, “How can I know how to die when I haven’t lived yet?” So it is kind of a luxury. I think Rob can talk about that.

Pattinson: I agree. (Laughs) I don’t think I can add to that.

Q. You have both been very candid in interviews about the fact that you didn’t necessarily know how this novel would translate to film and what it meant to you. Do you have a different interpretation of the text now that you’re finished with the film?
Pattinson: Well, I like it. I don’t think that confusion is necessarily a bad thing. We’ve done hundreds of interviews now and I still find myself coming up with new things to say.

Cronenberg: Those statements that we made, which were very candid, can be misinterpreted as meaning we were inept, incompetent. But not at all. You know, I don’t do storyboards, for example. I don’t really know what I’m going to do at every set up and every shot. It’s all very spontaneous and of-the-moment, even what lens to use. That’s what we’re talking about. We don’t have it all mapped out. We’re trusting the script and trusting the dialogue that is all 100 percent Don DeLillo’s and taken from the novel directly. We know that if we respond directly to that . . . the movie will have its coherence.
Q. You just rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange. What was that like? And what do you think the people there would think of this movie if they saw it?

Cronenberg: All through the halls of the stock exchange they have these monitors built into the walls, and they were all showing clips of “Cosmopolis.” All of the people there who were marshaling us were incredibly excited about the movie and really wanted to see it. And they were incredibly friendly and sweet, and I was suddenly thinking, “This is the wonderful, friendly face of capitalism. I don’t know why I’ve been fighting it for so long. I think I’m going to buy some stock.” [Pattinson laughs.] And the stock exchange is about marketing. To link the starting of the day with some product that’s being marketed was a no-brainer. And the fact that it might be rather ironic that we were opening the stock exchange; I don’t think it occurred to them.

Q. Mr. Pattinson, what did you think of the visit?
Pattinson: I’m so clueless about anything to do with that world. I was kind of just terrified that I was somehow going to mess it up. And also to see people’s enthusiasm. It’s so alien. Even people’s attitudes there. It seems so alien to me. I mean, I’ve met traders before, but in their own environment — everyone’s extremely happy, which is not what I expected. It doesn’t seem stressful at all. They were all excited about seeing who was going to ring the bell this morning. They had the American gymnastics team closing it that day. It looks like a really fun place to work.

Q. You guys seem like you like each other a lot. You seem so close during this publicity tour. I was thinking, when I looked at pictures from the stock exchange visit, that you actually look like relatives.
[Cronenberg and Pattinson laugh.]

Cronenberg: We get along pretty well and we were kind of wearing the same suit. They were Gucci suits that were connected with the movie — the character wears them — and so, we were Tweedledum and Tweedledee at that point.

Q. Mr. Cronenberg, where do you most enjoy promoting your films? You don’t have to say America.
Cronenberg: I have a huge enthusiastic fan base in France. My first films were horror films and genre films, and in France they never had any prejudice against them, whereas in North America, in the old days when I started especially, there was prejudice against them. They weren’t taken seriously as good cinema. So I suppose I feel more comfortable, weirdly enough, in France releasing a film. The level of discourse there is very intelligent, very intellectual, sometimes humorously so, but I like playing that game there.

Q. Mr. Pattinson, how have you taken to the Cronenberg fan base? I imagine that it’s strange to see “Twilight” fans with people who love David Cronenberg movies.
Pattinson: Absolutely. We were in London and we did a Q&A and it was two very diverse groups of people who suddenly came into contact with each other for I think probably the first time. And, I don’t know . . . David’s horror film fans . . . and general “Twilight” female fans . . . are actually quite a good pairing. I think both of them didn’t see anything in each other first of all, but they’re quite a good, odd couple. When you see a bearded guy with long hair, who absolutely will weep [for Cronenberg] . . . and then a “Twilight” fan who will weep at that, they actually look like a couple. (Tink: Matchmaker, matchmaker make me a match. Find me a find. Catch me a catch. I like MatchmakerRob.)

Q. Mr. Pattinson, I have to ask, in reference to all of the talk show hosts who are asking you personal questions right now: I’m always fascinated by the ability of celebrities to just disappear during a controversy. How do you do that? Is there a tunneling system? Where do you go to hide when you’re so watched?
Pattinson: There is a netherworld where celebrities go. They’re the only ones that have access to it. A mysterious little network of boroughs. (Giggles.)
Two more interviews after the cut - "I felt secure because I knew David was watching me"

Robert Pattinson's artwork reaches $3000 + story and fan pictures with the famous home plate

Robert Pattinson's artwork reaches $3000 + story and fan pictures with the famous home plate

By now, you guys know all about Rob's Unfinished City (HERE) and have seen more pics (HERE).

Something else that's awesome is the current bid: $3000! Click HERE if you got a credit card and know how to use it before Aug. 31st. ;)

The popularity of Rob's artwork is not too surprising for us but it's taken the Home Plate Project team by surprise and made them see Rob and his fans in a new light. It's exciting to see something Rob contributed his rarely shared artistic talent to making such a mark. Another fun thing has been the email conversations. I wanted to share a specific one.

Cory, from the HPP crew, emailed us a story that came in an hour after a reader, Denise, sent in the pictures of her night at a particularly special ballgame in Arizona. From Cory:
Quick story to share.  We had a family attend tonight's D-backs game and said they purchased tickets just so their daughter could see Rob's plate.  We decided not to initially display it since the bid is so high--more of a security issue than anything else.  So, we retrieved the plate and they came back in the 3rd inning.  The Mom asked if the daughter could hold it and take a photo.  We respectfully declined to have her hold it just in case it was dropped (or someone runs off with it), so one of our team members held it while the daughter got up as close as she could with pride.
The power of Rob led a family to buy tickets to our game so their daughter could lay eyes on one of his creations.  Not too shabby.
Enjoy your weekend...
The power of Rob :)

Hope the DR enjoys the weekend as well. Hope you're proud to be a Rob fan like Denise. And I hope you're excited for that awesome guy to own it on Monday and through the week as he promotes the US release for a film he's especially proud of.
