The Batman director turns on the Bat-Signal aka tweets for the first time in 2 months + THR talks how Robert Pattinson got the job

The Batman director turns on the Bat-Signal aka tweets for the first time in 2 months + THR talks how Robert Pattinson got the job

Right on cue, Matt Reeves sent out this little tweet yesterday:

I love it. This is so wild. Have you been reading up on Batman? I only know the films so I'm reading beginning stuff when Batman was known as The Batman and "world's greatest detective" since that's what Reeves has signaled his focus will be.

Here's something else you might like to read. The Hollywood Reporter has an article talking about how the casting of Rob went down. We don't have any named sources so take this however you want it. I have a theory I developed when the 2nd confirmation happened. When we got the 1st confirmation from Variety weeks ago, it was from a WB source that knew Rob decided to say yes. Then, knowing that was Reeves choice, it was only a matter of time before the ink was dry. I think WB had Hoult as a backup and wanted to do screen tests just to settle themselves but it was really done when Rob said yes. I know that is a favorable take for Rob but come on. All takes here will be favorable to Rob.

Anywho...read this and ponder. What theories do you guys have?

From The Hollywood Reporter:
"Quick" Debates and Secret Screen Tests: How Robert Pattinson Became Batman
Two weeks ago, a black jacket-clad Robert Pattinson faced flashbulbs and reporters at the Cannes Film Festival premiere of his period drama, The Lighthouse. When one guest approached him at the reception and said, “I heard you were the new Batman,” he offered only a sly smile and stayed mum.
In reality, Pattinson was not the Caped Crusader…just yet. Hours after his Cannes duties in designer duds, he would be on a plane to Los Angeles to face perhaps the biggest test of his acting career: putting on a Batsuit for director Matt Reeves, who is casting The Batman.

That test was officially passed Friday, when Warner Bros. announced that Pattinson had won the role. The decision was the culmination of an intense process that insiders describe as surprisingly quick. As opposed to most superhero casting efforts, which often include far-and-wide searches and dozens of screen tests for the likes of Superman or more recently, Spider-Man, the Batman process was notably smooth.

“It was quick,” says one Warners insider. “Quicker than normal.”

Reeves, who was hired to write and direct a new Batman movie in February 2017, was envisioning actors while penning the script, according to sources familiar with the filmmaker’s thinking. It helped that this new Batman needed to conform to a defined age bracket. He is written as around 30 years old, and the story is neither another rehashing of his origin nor the tale of a seasoned crimefighter ruling Gotham City. He is Bruce Wayne still trying to find his footing on his way to becoming the genius detective.

This, of course, eliminated Ben Affleck, as THR first reported back in July 2017. (Affleck and Warner Bros. denied the recasting at the time because the actor, who had played the role in Batman v Superman and Justice League, was to have headlined his own stand-alone movie that was sidelined when the studio began rethinking its superhero strategy.)

Reeves is said to have considered Pattinson, 33, early on in the process, says one source, even though no outreach was made. Reeves didn’t even know if the actor wanted the part. Since Pattinson shot to fame as a heartthrob vampire in the Twilight films, he has built a solid résumé in smaller, well-reviewed independent films like Good Time and Maps to the Stars. He has assiduously avoided big studio franchise films.

But that fact actually made him more attractive to Reeves and the executive team at Warner Bros. Specifically, Pattinson has not yet appeared in a Marvel Studios movie, and name-brand actors not working for the DC Comics rival are becoming few and far between. While there are no contract provisions prohibiting Marvel actors from appearing in DC/Warner Bros. movies and vice versa, execs believe that cross-pollination dilutes both brands and can cause confusion for audiences, especially from a marketing point of view.

VIDEO: Robert Pattinson as Batman has expressed itself and this comic vlogger is ready to go!

This has been like a dream. I believe it's happening but I can't believe it's happening. How is this happening?? *prays Cannes press is wondering the same thing*

As if my mind couldn't be more blown, I saw my worlds collide today. I'm a huge fan of Marvel Cinematic Universe and Game of Thrones. Not really admitting something unique here but I'm not a casual watcher of either. I'm a first-showing, multiple-viewing, blog-reading, vlog-watching, constant-analyzing, deep-researching, from the beginning kind of fan. ROBsessed....but GoTsessed and MCUsessed.

However, they've never had that singular THING that Rob has for us so the obsessions have been...quieter. 10 years ago this month, I became ROBsessed. It was April '09 I read the Twilight series but it was May '09 I saw GQRob (you know the one) for the first time, CannesRob hit the scene for the first time, and I discovered this blog. It's a special month for me personally. I didn't know the fandom yet. It was just me, the books, and this guy that I couldn't stop watching and listening to in interviews. What a world I was about to enter.

Which all leads to me being thrilled today to have my regular MCU and GoT informant report on Rob. A vlogger I love and follow because he's a comic reader and book reader, has posted about Batman. He was supportive of Rob like anyone who realizes Rob did not hibernate since Breaking Dawn Part 2 seven years ago. No, Rob put in the WORK. The man is respected by his peers. The industry values his talent and taste. He's being defended by fanboys in the know. And Rob will be AMAZING as Bruce Wayne/Batman. We know this. We've seen it. It's going to be fun to watch everyone else come to know it too.

So I want to share this video with you all still out there, still addicted and devoted. We're entering a new era. Again. Time to understand another fandom, another world (unless you've been Batsessed). Check out this video from Emergency Awesome breaking down what's known about Matt Reeves' The Batman and the concept behind the plot details. I'm not a comic reader so I don't know Batman's history beyond the films. This video already gave me more info than any article I've read since the announcement. I hope it gets you more pumped up...as if we aren't all floating in the atmosphere already. Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!!

A24 is back in business with Robert Pattinson and acquires North American distribution for GOOD TIME

A24 is back in business with Robert Pattinson and acquires North American distribution for GOOD TIME

imgbox
The Rover distributor, A24, has picked up another highly anticipated Rob film! The company has swooped up Rob's next big role, Good Time!

From Variety:
A24 has acquired North American rights to “Good Time,” a caper film with Robert Pattinson, Variety has learned.
The film follows a bank robber’s race to evade the police dragnet that threatens to send him behind bars. Josh and Benny Safdie directed the movie from a screenplay by Josh Safdie and Ronald Bronstein. “Good Time” also stars Jennifer Jason-Leigh and Barkhad Abdi.
The Safdie brothers are well known in the indie film community for their work on “Go Get Some Rosemary” and “Heaven Knows What.” Pattinson shot to fame as the brooding vampire in the “Twilight” films. Since accelerating the heart rates of teen girls the world over, he’s used his heartthrob status to get backing for edgier fare, working with David Cronenberg on “Map to the Stars” and “Cosmopolis,” and appearing in the upcoming James Gray drama “Lost City of Z.”
Since The Rover, A24 has continued to gather notable works and made a mark last year during awards season with the film, Room (starring Oscar winner, Brie Larson). They also have some buzzy projects for this award season as well. Click HERE to keep reading the Variety exclusive.

Little is known or seen about the film (the pic in this post is ALL we got during filming and it's not even filming. Click HERE to revisit) so it will be exciting to see how everything unfolds. It's great to see Jennifer Jason-Leigh as a cast member. She's a classic actor and recently gained attention again with her role in Tarantino's The Hateful Eight scoring a supporting actor Oscar nomination. Rob's other co-star, Barked Abdi, has also scored an Oscar nom with his role in Captain Phillips. So this is an exciting bunch! Can't wait to see the film :)))))

Metrodome is due to release theatrically in August 2016.

The deal was negotiated between George Hamilton for Protagonist Pictures and Giles Edwards, head of acquisitions for Metrodome.

Total Film Will Be Hosting A Google Hangout With Robert Pattinson & Guy Pearce ~ Send In Your Questions

 photo article-2651935-1E9266D400000578-188_634x434.jpg

Exciting news Total Film are going to be hosting a Google Hangout with Robert Pattinson & Guy Pearce on Wednesday August 6th at 2pm (BST) and they'll be LiveStreming it on the day too so you'll be able to watch!!!!!

Details of how to submit your questions:

We're rather excited to announce that we'll be hosting a Google Hangout with the stars of sci-fi drama The Rover, Msrs Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce.
Directed by Animal Kingdom's David Michod, The Rover is a gripping tale of two men forced together to survive in a dystopian Australian outback. Tense, terse and sparse, it's a serious departure for Pattinson and acts as an acting tour de force for Pearce.
We're hosting a live Google Hangout with them both Wednesday 6 August at 2pm for a 20 minute chat. We want YOUR questions to ask the cast. To be in with a chance of chatting to them direct, we need you to:

1. Follow the Total Film Google+ page (if you have a Gmail or YouTube account, you also have a Google+ account).
2. Say you'll be watching on the Google Hangout itself.
3. Submit your question in the comments section of the Google Hangout - and then we'll pick a lucky few on Monday 4 August.

Livestream will broadcast here (but we'll repost it again on Wednesday;))

IDOL'S EYE: Robert Pattinson's character revealed and Rachel Weisz in talks to join the cast!

A fan sent us a link to Hillel Levin's blog where he talked about the casting of Rob and Robert De Niro. Levin is the author of the article, Boosting the Big Tuna, that inspires the film.

From HillelLevin.com:
Big news for this project out of Cannes, where director Olivier Assayas released his latest film, Clouds of Sils Maria. He will next work on Idol's Eye, a movie based on my April 2007 article for Playboy called, "Boosting the Big Tuna." The story is about burglars who break into the home of Chicago's longtime Godfather, Tony Accardo. Robert Pattinson will play the burglar ringleader, who is based on John Mendell--a freelance "juice man" or "wire man" capable of overcoming the most sophisticated burglar alarms, but also the proprietor of a machine shop who was desperate to go "legit." De Niro will play Accardo, who ruled Chicago's mob for five decades. Despite the fact that he's hardly a household name, I would argue that Accardo was America's most important organized crime figure in the twentieth century. He not only influenced politics in the Windy City, but also corrupted wide swaths of the union movement (e.g. Teamsters and Laborers), and probably did more to build the Las Vegas Strip (mostly with Teamster pension funds) than anyone else. He features prominently in my play, "Assassination Theater." By the time of the burglary, he had become practically an establishment figure in Chicago--unusually accessible to the neighbors in his wealthy suburb, courtly to the power elite, with whom he occasionally rubbed shoulders, but still bone-chillingly ruthless with anyone who crossed his path in the criminal world--as Mendell eventually found out. It will be fascinating to see De Niro's approach to the part. One funny note: the dispute between Accardo and Mendell centers on the burglary of a high-end pawn shop. Somehow, in the mix of accents at Cannes, "pawn" got turned into "porn." I hope the reality here does not disappoint.
HAHA!

Ok back to serious talk. This is CRAZY exciting. I've been vibrating from the excitement since yesterday and it just keeps getting better! You can google Rob's character name (click HERE to see  picture) if you want to know his story but know there will be spoilers since it's historical fact out there.

As you already know, Robert De Niro casting news broke yesterday. Today, it looks like Rachel Weisz will be joining the Roberts!

From Variety:
Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz is in negotiations to join Robert Pattinson and Robert De Niro for Olivier Assayas’ sprawling Chicago-set gangster drama “Idol’s Eye,” which is due to start shooting in the fall.
Charles Gillibert at Paris-based CG Cinema is lead-producing the film with American partners Benaroya Pictures, which is financing and producing, as well as Bluegrass Films’ Scott Stuber, Film 360’s Scott Lambert, Alexandra Milchan and Michael Benaroya. Ben Sachs is exec producing for Benaroya Pictures.

Previously titled “Hubris,” the project is based on a 2007 Playboy article called “Boosting The Big Tuna” by Hillel Levin. It follows a group of thieves who rob a man who turns out to be Chicago mafia boss Tony Accardo.
Script is penned by Assayas, who won a Golden Globe for “Carlos the Jackal,” his mini-series starring Edgar Ramirez as Venezuelan revolutionary Ilich Ramirez Sanchez.
International Film Trust, the outfit topped by Christian De Gallegos and launched last year by Benaroya and Miscellaneous Entertainment, is repping foreign sales on “Idol’s Eye.”
CAA, which arranged financing, will represent domestic rights along with WME.
Weisz is repped by Independent Talent Group, CAA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.
Assayas’ latest film, “Clouds of Sils Maria,” produced by Gillibert’s CG Cinema, competed at Cannes.
Rob was supposed to be with Rachel in Unbound Captives...then Maps To The Stars....is Idol's Eye third times the charm? We can not WAIT for this movie. It's looking to be a HUGE deal. :))))
