Robert Pattinson’s Remember Me Surpasses Production Costs

Photobucket

At #12, Robert Pattinson’s Remember Me earned $1.9 million down an acceptable 41.6% from last weekend. Curiously, when compared to other movies Remember Me actually does better on weekdays than on weekends.

The romantic drama was #10 on Friday, but according to current estimates it had only a minor surge on Saturday and did poor business on Sunday. That has been the film’s pattern since it opened two weeks ago. A relatively weak weekend, but then on weekdays it goes up a spot or two on the chart.

To date, Remember Me has grossed $17.1 million, or about $1 million more than its production cost. It’ll probably earn another $3-$5 million in the next couple of weeks, ending its run in the low $20m range. That’s not bad at all for a movie that at first looked like it was going to disappear within the week.

THR says foreign cume at $9.9. With domestic puts RM at around $27 mil world wide. It could get to $30-40 mil - respectable figure for a small-scale drama.

Very telling, very sadly accurate in the article as it points out the north american movie viewer is 12 years old--or with the mindset of a 12 year old.

AP-=I responded to your post on the graph/tally of Remember Me. Thanks for your explanations.

Who says I have the mindset of a 12 year old? I hope they get cooties! :-)

I think RM do well, just now taked a look on boxoffice and the oscar winner Single man made less than 10 millions. What do the critics want from this beautiful, emotional movie, what they debunked b/c they don't like Rob?

Wen - my thoughts exactly!

Rob we will forever Remember you! Small victory but well deserved. Thank God.

Of course it does better weekdays that's when the women (not tweens or teens) go to see it. The reviewers and studio people still haven't figured out Rob's appeal crosses ages. I think Rob is figuring it out though. RM is doing OK, maybe more than OK. And the DVD sales will pump it up more when it comes out.

Oh God can't wait for the dvd hopefully there'll be an audio commentary with Rob.............

Has the movie finally been released in the UK yet?

I think it's all good news, now the costs are covered: it can only get better :).

I wonder how it will do here in France. There is no marketing done at all except the billboards in the metro. They haven't shown the trailer and it's going to be released in 2 weeks now. They've put some kind of ad on a teen radio Web site selling it as a romcom. I wonder if they are in their right minds. I participate to a French forum about RM and most teens (Twilight fans ) say they don't want to go and see it because it looks boring or too sad or they don't like poor Emilie. I don't get it.

I wonder why they're only focusing on the domestic box office? The movie hasn't even opened in some countries. It's broken even already so everything now will just be the icing on the cake

Well I went to see it for the 3rd time yesterday. I found this movie to be so moving and thought provoking.

I wish the closed minded people out there would go see this movie before they dismiss it as another one of those heartthrob movies. I would love to ring the necks of the critics who can't see past the nose on their face!

This movie deals with a subject that is real and out there! We should all remember the subject every day and remember what we all lost.

I for one think this movie is a very powerful movie. But I believe that because of the meaning and lesson I learned from it - not because of the actors or their pretty faces and big hollywood names. They were only the icing on the dessert that we should all eat first!

wow Rum--I cannot believe they are still being so stupid as to advertise it as a romcom--or even romance--after the reviews that reflected a distortion at least partially based on that miscategorizaton. I guess they did not learn their lesson. :-(

prstk--I agree--moving, thought-provoking, intelligent. i truly believe the American audience is just not appreciative of anything intelligent. As for the article's observation of the 12 year old mindset, maybe that is an insult to 12 year olds!
I suppose it is all logical, though; the high point on the bellcurve of intelligence is not too intelligent at all. :-(

I went throught on the imdb and licked the entrys about box-offices, on filmshaft and film guide items. and swa, the uk critics made the same points as usa critics (the end, the love story, the brooding). what about these men? maybe i do envy: they never had problems in their life, with their teenager or older children, with their parents. I think somebody ever had these will understand the movie. Really not a romcom chickflick, but strongly recommended to see it.
Oh I'm just angry for them.

@Solas: thanks. I added a kind of post script on the other thread - excuse the 'acting 101' notes, but I agreed with your observations. :)

AP-- I hope to add a response there--and I love learning, so do not apologize for 101s.:-)

Remember Me was an excellent movie with great acting from everyone, especially Rob who gave a very strong performance in my opinion. Believable story with a well-done respectful ending. It's a shame most critics could not see it with an open mind. I knew it would be highly scrutinized from the beginning and that most would not even give Rob a chance. I really don't think the teens could relate to this movie. The first time I saw it there was annoying giggling at the love scenes and loud gasping horror at the end. I have seen it 4 times with different people and they all loved it. My one friend did not even know who Rob was (sadly for her!). I wanted to see it again this week but sadly after only 3 weeks it is gone from our theaters. Looking forward to the DVD as Rob has mentioned that he was doing commentary for it.

The premiere of he movie was onm friday, here in Mexico, I went yesterday ro see the movie, and I invite my sister and two friends. It was a small cinema, but It was full.Unfortunatly, my sister has diabetes, and she suffer a low sugar attack or hiperglucemia during the movie (common how you dare to do this to me when I am seeing Rob). Everything went ok, but I couldnt see all the movie, but lucky me, Iam going again today.
My friends really like the movie, my sister didnt remember anything.
But I cant tell that I love it, not for one second I thouhgt in Edward, this was a very different character, and one that I really like. The cinematography of the movie is geourgus, all the landscapes of New york, kind of sad. And the music was like other character of the movie. It reaaly touch ny hearth, and specially the end, was a very well done scene. I really think this is a great movie, and Rob is an extraordinary actor. I will enjoy him better today.

I agree with you Solas. The movie is and intellegent movie, with clever dialogues, not like all the holliwood stuff that americans are used to. Common, like the blind side, with all the american cliches.
Not all the people apreciatte things when they are clever, is like Feliciy, one of the most itellegents series thats exists, and people prefer to see something like gossip girl.

@solas - I'm afraid it's going to be marketed as a teen romcom here in France. They even cut the "Live in the moments" line on the billboards. I'm not sure everyone knows what "Remember Me" means at all, so people will focus on the cute couple and think "fluffy love story". ***sigh*** I also suspect it will not be so widely released after all due the USA BO numbers. Plus, it's got the competition of a blockbuster - Clash of the Titans - which is released on the same day. And Green Zone the next week. Pff.
