Twilight Producer Wyck Godfrey Talks About Breaking Dawn

Producer Wyck Godfrey spoke to Gina McIntyre from L.A. Times. He pretty much says : "We don't have a director, we don't have the whole script, we don't know if it will be 1 or 2 movies." Zero plus zero we still have zero...

Breaking News...it ain't :)

It's been one of the biggest questions surrounding Summit Entertainment's uber-successful "Twilight" franchise (apart, of course, from whether stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson really are a couple off-screen) -- just how the producers are going to manage to pull off a big-screen adaptation of "Breaking Dawn." The fourth book in Stephenie Meyer's juggernaut of a young adult fiction series about the epic love affair between high school student Bella Swan and her good-guy vampire beau Edward Cullen has plenty of heft, clocking in at upward of 750 pages, but it also has the distinction of being the most controversial entry in the saga.

When it was released in August 2008, fan reaction was intense and divided with some "Twi-hards" expressing confusion and dismay over a plot that involved *SPOILER ALERT* a recently graduated 19-year-old Bella giving birth to a half-human/half-vamp daughter named Renesmee, who grows much faster than the average mortal child and who possesses a unique way of communicating with those around her, clearly inherited from Dad's side of the family.

Wyck Godfrey, the producer of all the films in the "Twilight" saga, admits that the creative team still doesn't know how they'll handle the character in the "Breaking Dawn" movie, but said that the plan is absolutely for the production to go forward -- as either one or two installments -- with an eye toward beginning to shoot in Vancouver this fall. All three stars are signed for "Breaking Dawn," he said, meaning that Stewart and Pattinson will be dealing with the joys and woes of interspecies parenting and newly minted heartthrob Taylor Lautner will return as often-shirtless shape-shifter Jacob Black.

At the moment, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, who's penned all the "Twilight" movies, is working on the "Breaking Dawn" script(s). "It's a work in process," Godfrey said in an interview Friday. "The issue [of whether there will be one or two movies] is not going to be resolved until we get the full treatment and see whether it's organic. If it's not organic, I don't think it will be done, and if it is, it will be. It really has to do with how much level of detail from the books there is, with all of these new vampires that appear in 'Breaking Dawn,' the whole section about Jacob... It's a very long single movie if it does become a single movie."

Although there's been a great deal of online chatter about whether Chris Weitz, director of the second and most recent movie, "New Moon," would return to helm "Breaking Dawn," Godfrey downplayed that possibility, saying, "I think everyone would be happy and excited if he came back, but I don't think it's going to happen."

He and the other principals are formulating a list of potential directors, "but right now," Godfrey said, "we're just focused on the treatment and getting that right. At that point, we're going to see who's available and who's appropriate. It's such a complicated book because you have the emotions and the intensity of the love story -- so you need somebody who's just a wonderful director of actors -- and yet it's really complicated from an action and visual effects standpoint. They've got to have both tools in their kit."

A visual effects background might be particularly helpful when it comes to dealing with the character of Renesmee.

"I keep having visions of '[The Curious Case of] Benjamin Button' in my head," Godfrey said, referring to David Fincher's Oscar-nominated 2008 fantasy about a man who becomes physically younger as he ages. "It's certainly going to be visual effects in some capacity along with an actor. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a full CG creation, but it also may be a human shot on a soundstage that then is used to shrink down. I don't know. We need a director. When we get a director, that director will need to come with a point of view of how they want to tackle it."

The third movie in the series, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," is due in theaters June 30.

So what do YOU think? I vote for 2 movies. There's a LOT to cover in Breaking Dawn...

There's been whisperings for a month now that Stephenie Meyer is holding it up, and not sure she wants it to be two movies. Who knows though.

Personally, I don't want two movies. Breaking Dawn is not a book that needs to be broken down like that, they need to "trim the fat" off of that unfocused book and change it around a bit to make it salvagable.

2 movies? Ew no. I just want Rob to be done with Twilight ASAP.

Love the fan trailer---saw it a while back! ; )

I'm in the TWO movie camp---it's just such a big book and there's the perfect/logical spot to split it! Bella's awakening as a vampire---so perfect for the beginning of a second movie. Just my two cents.

Still, I hear you guys on Rob not being Edward forever. (Gwen just really likes the books!!!) ; )

Breaking Dawn is my second favorite after Twilight :) So I'm ALL for it being made and made right.

It's such a BIG book and to give it the respect it needs and deserves, it has to be 2 movies..

If they try to cram all of into one movie it's going to lose so much and end end up being rushed and cheesy.

Do I want to see Rob finally be done, yes, but he's managing pretty well in between the films and is able to take on other parts and characters, so I think he'll be just fine.

There is a lot they can cut out for sure....way to many "vampires" coming to "witness" shave that down a lot..and shave down a lot of the wolf pack (leah) they can make it work.

I need the night before the wedding, the wedding, all of Isle Esme, burning Edward...I need it all!

Oh, and I really want to see Edward change Bella, and get that nasty baby out! Lol!

One "well done" film will be great. I don`t want another "Jacob( shirtless and how good boy he is) Black" movie. I want a strong and exciting Edward and Bella film. I don`t like New Moon (movie) and I think Breaking Dawn needs a better director and much better screenwriter, edition, costumes, makeup, special effects...
Summit wants to make easy money and don`t invest in good quality.

P.S. Rob needs time to accept other projects and to take a rest. I love Rob!

SluttyPattz said...

I agree. I want Rob to move on but to do it right I think it has to be done in two movies. Similar to how they had to work with the last HP books. They can cut down a lot but I think we all witnessed what happens when you don't include some stuff (example New Moon). People that didn't read the books were lost and I had to explain stuff to them.

I have said it before and will say it again. The will close it out if its two movies with either the heart monitor beating slowly in background then flatline ROLL CREDITS or take a step further Bella Awakens with Red Eyes end movie.

I want BD to be made in 2 movies. This is my favorite book after Twilight too, Edward is so happy in this book and Renesme is such a lovely baby. I understand the issue Rob being Edward forever, but I don’t think so, first of all the story is not concentrate on him anymore (in NM it was Jacob, in Eclipse it will be Riley, who read the script understand me), secondly, I am pretty sure 2 movies of BD will be filmed in one shot, and thirdly, Rob has the other different projects, he is good.

There is one concern that BD might became a huge disappointment for some audience, I read a lot of reviews and understand that people in US have a negative issue regarding Jacob&Renesme relationship. By the way, it’s not the case in Russia, but BD is an american movie first of all…..

The big question is: What Summit is going to show in two Breaking Dawn movies?

AP said...

Its an issue whether they can find a director who will film two back-to-back, or they will have to have find another, and maybe split production. If the former, they can make it one film or two, but its not easy to find directors who will take on that task. Not to mention one who is equally versed in both working with actors in an intimate setting, big scale-action and VFX. Got to get the right person...

solas said...

I think (but not sure) that HP Deathly Hallows 2 movies are done by different directors.

I realize this would not be reality, but it would be great for Summit to hire real fans to do the scripts, etc. and to have Rob's and Kristen's input.

Kathy S said...

Getting the love story right is the most important thing. I felt New Moon ramped it up on some features but failed miserably on the love aspect. It is important to give Twilight fans the correct closure on the love story-the action is incidental. Melissa, please try to remember what was the heart of the first movie-one could feel the earth shake when Rob and Kristen did loves scenes. That was not the case in New Moon.

Loisada said...

Ditto Birgit. Rob can't put this franchise behind him fast enough.

But I see your point Gozde, we won't get enough Isle Esme in 1 film if they want to tell the whole Renesme and war stories.

If they skimp on the longlast fulfilled E&B coupling.... the backlash from the fandom will be epic and make Summit look bad. But if they rake in the $$$$, will they care? Much will ride on whether Slade manages to widen the audience with Eclipse.

Have a feeling it's all falling on SM's shoulders right now to keep the films true to her vision. Keep your shoulders back and fists high honey!

Barbara said...

The job of writing the script is the ultimate decision that will either make or break one or both movies.

Hopefully a change will be made for Breaking Dawn.

Teri & Gwen..
ITA on the breaking point of the 1st part ending...
It could go two ways.... Edwards desperate attempt at pumping the venom through her heart, or stopping when she opens her eyes...
Either would be powerful endings...

As far as the director goes... I'm open... We haven't seen what slade gas done, but I don't think he'd be coming back so soon... And although I loved what Chris did with new moon, I'm open to someone elses vision... would there be 2? or just film th both together with the same director like Peter Jackson did for LOTR?

AP said...

@Solas: Deathly Hallows 1&2 being done by same director, David Yates. They can film most efficiently and economically with one director and one extended shoot. I'm wondering if Wyck's mention of Fincher means anything, other than he might like him to do it....Wish Mike Newell were up for it. He's finished on Prince of Persia..Lots of interesting possibilities but will Summit pay the necessary, and who would take it on? They did have someone considering it, when it was being thought of as one, but all on the table again.

Emily said...

I'm leaning towards it being 2 films for the reason you said, Loisada. The fact that Edward and Bella are finally together needs major screen time.

What my hope is that the things they DO include get done properly. *coughfiremelissarosenbergcough* Like has been said before, there are so many things in BD that have the potential to not translate at all into a film. I guess we can just try to have faith that whoever they choose will do it justice. There's not much I can do about it anyway.

I don't know if this makes me sound weird or not but I thought the baby being born via Edwardian section was actually kinda cool. And then with Jacob putting the smackdown on Rosalie when she went all vampire with Bella's blood. I don't know...good stuff in that book. They could trim it down quite a bit but overall, I loved BD. I felt closure at the end and I hope that's what we get from the movie or movies.

Marna said...

I don't want 2 movies, I want them to cut all the excessive Jacob crap, & all the boring new vampires crap, & just make 1 really good movie that can be longer than 2 hours. I really don't need to watch all the Jacob stuff while Bella is pregnant, it just doesn't add anything to the story, & I don't need to know what every vampire can do, because they never do anything!

What worries me is that it's going to be a huge wait between Eclipse & NM. If Eclipse is out in June, & they're not even thinking of starting filming on BD until 3 or 4 months later, it's going to be a year or a 18 months at least after that before it's released. That sucks.

Taylor said...

First time commenting...I am giving up lurking and coming over to the Twi-side.

I am for BD as one movie, maybe 2hr+ run time. I think that all the important aspects of the story can be placed in one movie.

If you broke it up into 2 movies, with the breaking point being Bella's transformation, then the first movie would only be the wedding, honeymoon, and pregnancy, and I just don't think that would make a good movie. Sure I would love to see Edward and Bella getting their alone time, but from a movie standpoint, it would drag. The second movie would only be Bella as a vampire, Renesmee and the totally anti-climatic Volturi fight (which they desprately need to work on!).

One movie smartly assembled, in my opinion, is the best bet. But if they make it into 2, I would still go see both!

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

@Marna, I said the same thing last week! (That's going to be one LONG dry B&E spell, especially since BD is still so up in the air.)

One movie is more than enough. The story won't get any better if there are two movies. I'd rather see Rob playing other roles.

Est said...

i like seeing Rob on movies but i have to be honest: i think there's no need to make 2 movies. It's true that the book is very long but it doesn't mean it contains a lot of things. It contains some important things that have to be stood out (or "stand out", i don't know how to say it).

Reading a book is not the same as wathing a film: you can read 20 pages of the same thing but you can't be 20 or even 10 min watching the same scene. You can't put all the lines of a book in a movie, it would be boring and slow.

Well, that's my opinion, maybe there are some people who like this kind of movies.

Actually, i don't mind if there are 1 or 2 movies, i'll see them, anyway. I just hope that BD (1 or 2) won't be so boring and whiny like NM. Romantic yes, whiny no ;)

d67 said...

I hate to say it but the screenwriter is not going to change b/c from the article, it seems she's already working on it.
I don't think you can make into one movie unless you make it 3hrs long....which I think is the way to to, but the studio stands to make more $$$ if they make two.
I really like CW, truly, and NM was great, but I didn't feel the heat between E & B like I did in Twilight. It's gotta be there for Eclipse and BD, gotta!

RPLover said...

Gwen, RPG, Emily (and others who shared their opinions) I soo TA with you! I think the perfect ending for movie #1 would be Edward giving Bella all the venom, I'm thinking Carlise has her hooked up to a heart monitor, the beeping slows down...no music, just slowing beeping...close up of Bella's face...flatline...and then-boom-her bright red vamp eyes snap open, black screen and credits roll.

LMAO I'm certianly no director or whatever, but I can see this scene so clearly in my head and I think it would be awesome! (of course I do, I made it up! hahaha) And IMHO, there's enough plot in BD to make 2 movies, not 2+hours movies, but coherent, plausible films that don't feel like they crammed everything in as fast as they could in order to get the running time down.

And Emily, I'm right there with ya about MR! Oh well, I'll take what they give me, I just want a satisfying end to the whole saga, and then Rob can move on!

Emily said...

Brillian idea RPL! I can see it now...and I love it!

Juli87 said...

Sorry, but to be really honest: I just don't get why people keep on voting for Chris Weitz being the director for BD. Here's what I think: Someone started that "Katherine Hardwick is SOOOOOOO terrible, all she does is wrong" thing and I feel like this "opinion" just became kind of popular... no matter how many people really loved Twilight (the first movie) and how successful it was - suddenly nobody wanted to admit that they actualy liked it. Personally I feel like that is the real reason why (after Katherine)people were like "Now EVERYTHING is just better!" when Chris Weitz started working on New Moon... even before they really saw any results and no matter what he actually did. But no matter how successful NM started at the box-office because of all the hysteria and hype - the critics hated it and the reviews were completely bad. And even a lot of the saga's own fans (incl. me) were more than dissapointed with NM. I actually loved the book and wanted so badly to also love the movie... but unfortunately I just couldn't feel anything when I saw it. To me Chris Weitz completely ruined it. He might be a nice guy, but does he really have any credit as being a good director?

Sorry for my rambling (and my English - unfortunately it's not my first language). But I think Summit should consider all those bad reviews Chris Weitz earned for NM before they actually consider him for BD. Otherwise the image and credibility of the whole Twilight-Saga will become even worse. I really hope they find someone else to do the last movie!

I just finished reading Breaking Dawn today and there is sooo much in there. Halfway through I was starting to get very disappointed because I loved Eclipse but in the end BD was excellent. There is so much story here that those who don't read the book will be confused if it is not linked correctly. I don't want them to teenage it down either though. It is a more mature book with a very serious current running through it. I'm glad I don't have to make the decision. Either way though, I don't want it to become hokey. It needs some major money thrown at it so they can do it right.

And I want Rob (and everyone) to feel like they did the books proud with no regrets.

Bring on Isle Esme & feathers!

Lisa said...

First off, BD is my least favorite book of the saga. All that to get everything tied up with a neat little bow in a couple of chapters. I was disappointed and it made me wish Edward had just eaten her and did the nasty with Jessica Stanley back in Twilight ;D

That said, one thing I became acutely aware of was that, out of all 4 books, BD would be the one where Robert would really get to show his acting chops.

That leaves me with a dilemma. While I want the movie version of BD to be as quick and painless as possible, I also want Robert to be able to showcase the many emotions of Edward that I know he's capable of.

But...two movies? And all that Volturi and Wolf Pack stuff...I'd be committing suicide by hot buttered popcorn ten minutes into movie #2 :D

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Lmao Lisa!!!

It took me 2 times reading BD to like it, and by the time I read it for the 3rd time ( I was bedridden for 4 months, had time to kill) I ended up loving the book.

Maybe avoid the hot buttered popcorn?

RPLover said...

Em and RPG, thanks! LOL I'll leave the directing to the pros, but I've got a vivid imagination. ;)

I'm not sure how they would make Kristen any more pale than she is, but maybe just more glowy or something? IDK, I just hope it's better than the Sound of Music romp in NM (the only dissapointing thing for me!)

And you girls can back me up, there's some interesting times to be had with hot buttered corn...just sayin'. ;))

As long as that hot butter is on Robs cob, it's all good!!

@Juli87, I don't think people hated Twilight or CH, just felt let down that they never said the simple I love you that was throughout twilight, and she messed with the meadow scene! We saw more of Bella and Edward talking in musical scenes instead of the actual cute discussions they had and seeing why they fell in love. I just think CW followed the book more closely, and people want that.
As for BD, I'm not sure if I want 1 or 2. I could live without all the Leah crap for sure, and all the extra vamp stuff in such detail. I feel like there is alot that could be cut out.

Lisa said...

RPG...I generally avoid popcorn, but with Robert involved, the hot butter becomes interesting :D

I do need to read BD again. Maybe my expectations were just too high LOL

RPL...Sound of Music romp!! Haha!! Was that Leisel and Rolf? And here I thought it was Edward and Bella.

Yeah...what the heck with those outfits?? What was the NM costume designer smoking? I mean, we know we have Rob to thank for Edward looking like he was teaching English Lit at Forks Community College, but the rest of it?? The whole Hansel & Gretel outfitting in Alice's "vision" actually made me giggle...out loud.

ok i am in the 2 movie BD category...i was thinking the same thing part 1 ending with her waking up with red eyes. so my thought is they will film both movies back to back and release one june 2011 and the last one nov. 2011. everyone who is worried about rob, i think he will be just fine and making millions and millions and it will just be a little longer filming that's all. who knows after these films he might just disappear from acting and focus on music, just a thought.

RPLover said...

LOL, Lisa! I do agree that the wardrobe choices were strange at times, but I really did love NM. I can't fault the whole movie for one goofy scene, but Alice's vision really did make me cringe. :)

RPG, you've seen NM more than anyone else I know, what did you think of the vision? Does it get better with repeated viewings? (I only got to see it twice, boo.)

I am so on the fence re this. I think that the 3 main cast members signed for *one* BD movie, so if they decide to do two, all bets are off, IMO. And it could be a long time before salary details are hashed out.
I actually really liked the book. But I don't know about 2 movies. I would go to see both (of course!) but I think you could do 2-1/2 hours, cut out a lot of the non-essential crap, and still have a decent representation of the book.
And don't forget: this is still considered a teenager franchise. They will NEVER do the scenes between E&B like we'd *like* to see them. (In my case, that would require an X rating. Do they have those anymore? LOL)

OMG I am seriously lmfao!!! Sound of music and English Lit professor!! I admit I did not like Edwards clothes in NM...
Loved them in Twilight though...

And I agree, CH or MR whom ever left put the simple o love yous on twilight just didn't get it right. And she dud trash the meadow scene... My fav part of the book...

But... CH gave us a WAY better kiss than CW did.

It's very simple

Breaking Dawn I. (director ?)
-wedding
-honeymoon (hot vamp on human sex)
-Pregnancy/Birth/Imprinting
*ending line
"Bella I love you, Bella I'm sorry"

Breaking Dawn II. (director = Chris Weitz)
-waking up/learning the ropes
-bonding wth baby
-hot vampire sex
-mystery of Renessme
-Alice's vision
-gathering help from friends
-more hot vampire sex
-Epic Battle

ending line
"and they lived happily forever after"

see simple....

I don't get it! Why look for a film maker when Chris Weitz would be perfect?
I don't care if it's one or two movies as long as they get everything in it from the wedding, to the honeymoon and off course Bella transformation, Renéesmée birth and the final fight...
They can get away with part of book 2 with Jacob's point of view... It's necessary but not essential!
The most difficult thing will be to make it into a PG13, and honestly it would be a shame... The sex scenes were wild in the book and Bella's transformation too... I hope they don't just suggest these events.... Anyway, by the time they get it done, most of the 13 year old fans of twilight will be 16 or more... LOL...

Oh crap, is zero movie an option,

This book was so silly and bad on so many level.

I mean SM can't even write a proper wedding. The wedding was lame, and
she has to bring jacob into the equation to underline how stupid her main characters are;
Then she has to make renne look like a douchebag mother who doesn't have a clue on a thing , who is too preoccupied to look at what is going on with he daughter.

I don't want to see rob saying to kristen some of the cheese fest this book is.

The wedding is ok. 5 min
The honeymoon can be ok. If it's well writen, and if SM has no unput in the scene. 10 min

The pregnancy can be done in 15 min.( this part need to be rewriten and i don't want to see rob on his knee asking for taylor to convince kristen to do an apsortion so she can have baby with him)
Birth scene and transformation 10 min; ( i don't want to see rob chewing omeone uterus, so need to rewrite it and bring in tarantino for the visual or do it a la sin city)

Transformation, 1 min

First hunt and other cheesy stuff 15 min, NO IMPRINTING CRAP.

Bounding bella , edward and loch ness, 8 min with sex scenes and all

If the movie is made , one movie is enough for the crap. The book has no material for 2 movies sorry twihards but the book is too weak.

I don't want to see rob saying to taylor you're my sun. And i want charlie to freack out when he see bella after the transformation. I want to a real parent reaction.

I want also to see bella with plan about what she is going to do with her time, maybe go to college, have a profession and not only depicted as some housewife from the 50's

I want edward to have some. I want a really graphic sex scene the poor thing has been waiting for it for over a centyry.

I have never particularly liked two-parters, but it may be necessary in order to showcase all the E/B interaction. And after getting my freakin' share of Jacob,(and I mean way more than I would like) I am so ready for some big time vampire smackdown in the love department-I can't wait. However, I do want the beauty of E/B to be properly filmed and as long as we get satisfied with this aspect, I would be okay w/2 movies. Wish it could be 1, though.

@RPG
Love the butter/Robcob thing!!!

They probably can´t find a director who is willing to turn that utterly silly book into a movie....you can just loose by doing so!

..."It's such a complicated book because you have the emotions and the intensity of the love story."...

Emotions, intensity, love story...what the hell is he talking about????? Has he even read the book?
There was just that annoying child which must not be named, a hole bunch of boring new vamps which didn´t interest me at all, and a very strange very unnecessary plot with some lawyer and papers and blablabla...
*apparently still didn´t get over her disappointment of the book*

Breaking Dawn can be made into one movie if they just focus on Bella and Edward. Who really cares about all the Vampire world politics? i don't. Even Jacob-who really wants to watch him imprint on Renesme? I don't. I don't think that whole side plot is gonna work onscreen to be honest. So I'm all for trimming the fat--just focus on Bella and edward's narrative and keep it tunnel visioned.

And I love Robert, so I want him to finish the franchise quickly. I love Twilight too, but I think 2 movies is overkill and the longer he's "sparkley vampire boy" the harder it is for him to make people see him in a new light.

the vision scene jajajja was so embarrasing..everybody laught..so wrong.

As for BD..mm is my least favorite book of the saga..I have read it several times...I don't hate it but I think was too much..from everything.I think SM got so ambicious and was already thinking in a major movie production for that book,,,that's why she overdid the final battle scene...there are some parts that are really good..but that's why I'm leaning more for 1 movie...we don't need the whole jacob's point of view crap..the new vampires..the werewolf's boring stories etc..etc.
I think fans will be happy with the wedding, isla esme(me me!)birth and I guess the final battle...there's more sex in that book(I'm sure a lot of us care a lot about those scenes)
sorry for thelong comment...but I have to say summit is trying so hard to get a newheartrobb on each movie..NM was all about taylor..eclipse has me worried is my fav book...and all that ryley stuff has me scared..
that's all

I am hoping for one movie for many of the reasons already mentioned (BD not my favourite book) and I'm more interested in seeing Rob in other things. What about a big sweeping epic with an intermission? Ghandi had an intermission, and didn't Lawrence of Arabia have an intermission? It could still be Big, still have everything in it. It would give people a chance to go pee, talk about it, get a drink, it would have a 2-part feel, it could be really classy.

@cerulean blue, doubtful. People just don't have the time/patience, nor the attention spans of prior times. There is no way any of my guys would sit through a 3+ hour movie, not that they'd see BD anyway...

My 18-year old son, prime demographic market-wise for Avatar, said it was too boring and not to waste my time. (Will probably see it anyway because Sigourney rocks.) He said they could have cut the movie in half and it would have been better. Go figure. Attention span of gnats. ; )

ps, are you an ex-X-Phile, CB?

Good morning ladies(and gents if any)!

I stayed away from commenting for a moment but I just needed to comment on this one.

I don't like making BD into 2 movies as I always say, I'm sure they can still concentrate on the good parts like the romance without cramming it into just one movie. I mean there are the basic parts, the wedding, honeymoon, pregnancy then vampire bella, the "anti-climatic" volturi attack. I'm sure they won't get into details much just like any other movies. I'm sure the honeymoon would just be about the one love scene since there were only two (actually).

But they have to put the birth into details as it is in the book, it is essential to the story. I don't think you need Jacob's point of view although it is there, because it started in Bella's POV, non-readers of the book would just be faze if they watch it.

Est said...

1 movie with only the first part of the book (wedding-honeymoon-birth) looks like more similar to an episode from "Beverly Hills, 90210" than BD. and it could be two thing: too short (if they do it well) or too boring (if they try to extend it "unnecessaryly" - have i just invented a word??)

the book is so long because it speaks at length about things that doesn't really care, for instance, the jacob part is tooo long: SM realtes it minute by minute

shoegal2547 said...

One movie for BD...cut out Jacob storyline (including imprint), not interested in anything Jacob or wolf pack (you can tell their story in flashbacks)...I always thought SM spent too much time on their story anyway...major parts to me for the movie: of course, wedding, honeymoon, gathering of the vamps, especially Tanya and the group, the birth, and the birthday gift for Bella (house for she and Edward)...the end. One movie! Twilight remains my favorite book, followed by Eclipse and then BD...NM I did not like for obvious reasons (no Edward). :-(

As to directors: Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Robert DeNiro, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas or Wolfgang Petersen, just to name a few. Love Catherine and Chris, but Summit needs someone who can focus on the love story, as well as the action...Spielberg, Wolfgang or Lucas.

Calla*Lily said...

I think it would be good to have BD in 2 movies simply because there is too much stuff to put into one. Too much would get lost, and all the characters need their time, INCLUDING Jacob (many do not agree). Although, skipping out on the Nessie stuff would be ok with me.
And please, not Chris Weitz again. I was very unhappy with NM. Peter Jackson would be great as the director for this.

gracefulgrace said...

@Gözde
Didn't you used to want it to be one movie? Thought on read that in a comment somewhere.
I want it in two movies too. There's far to much going on to fit into one movie. I think it would be good to end the first movie just as Bella opens her eyes to her new vamp life.

Unknown said...

Breaking Dawn is my least favorite book in the series. The ending for me is still an open ending due to the fact that the Volturi in the story came to divide and conquer, and what do you know if they will come and do that again in the future. I felt as if SM was just getting tired and felt like she wanted to give everyone partners in the end, and that includes Charlie ending up with Seth's mom.

I didn't like the fact that it was awarded with a Children's book award when it is not suitable for kids.

There were many loopholes in the story, much like the other three books. I actually don't want it to be a movie, if only for a fact that the saga needs closure.

But one thing's for sure, I will watch it because I would like to show my robsessed devotion to the actor named Robert Pattinson.

RPLover said...

as strange as I find the whole imprinting thing to be-and I do-there's no way that they're going to cut that out. that would completely change the story and Jacob's ending, and I don't think that SM would let them do that.

It'll be interesting to see how it's shown, though.

Juli87 said...

@rpattzgirl: Thanks for your answer! So I was just looking for any Bel Ami news on Twitter and found out that shooting location changed from Paris to London... so great for Rob!! I'm really happy for him 'cause this way he can stay home and with his beloved ones a bit longer. Obviously shooting will start arround 30 days from now.

Already so excited!! Maybe I'll go to London (it's just a 1 hour flight from here) for a few days if there'll be any scenes filmed in public.

@maja77, I had forgotten all about the stupid laywer storyline, what a waste of time that was. Totally unnecessary, & she could have used those pages for the missing E&B romance, which is also basically missing from BD.

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

RPL,
nope you're right.. the imprinting is what tied Jacob to the Cullens, when he should have been just done.. and SM wanted him there...although it will have to be handled with kid gloves because of the obvious reasons...
Otherwise you just get pervy Jake, and we know that's not what is was about...

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

@RPL, ITA. Ditto the wolves and lots of Jake. Summit especially is going to want to keep Tay upfront for the tween-set. I'm sure they're thinking that they've got us nailed (hee-hee) age spectrum-wise with both Rob & Taylor. "Eye candy for all ages!"

The baby-imprinting thing is a big "squicky" to me too; the older wolves imprinting, I got that. But Claire and Resnesmee? (I just kept thinking "plot device"; it helped.) Although my mind did wonder about J&R's future offspring---human/vampire/werewolf hybrid. Yeah.

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

@cerulean blue, X-Phile is an X-File fan. Your screen name is probably one of the most popular phrases to ever come out of an X-File episode. (Pusher, Season 3, #17. And the holy grail of Mulder/Scully UST. Kevlar Mulder. Those were the days.)

Sorry, Gwen's back. ; ) Had to take a quick stroll down the old neighborhood.

jh said...

gwen: Thanks!....feels kind of creepy for me. Who knew? To me, cerulean blue is a cool blue (as opposed to a warm blue) for painting. Kind of like the blue that our names appear on the screen.

Amelie said...

Why not let Catherine Hardwick finished the job? After all she was the one who started this phenomenon. Twilight is still my favorite movie no matter what happens. I prefer a woman director to explore the emotions of love, longing, passion, etc. I can relate to her. The New Moon did not leave up to my expectation. It topped the opening and
weekends days just because of the extensive and intensive promo of the 3. But after that it faded away faster than Twilight. So maybe Director Catherine can restore the magic of Twilight by doing the Breaking Dawn in one movie. Don't prolong the end anymore.

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

@cerulean, don't be too freaked. Only old XF fans would even think of it. ; )

Kind of like the Trek phrase "Kobayashi Maru"... LOL. (Yeah, Gwen has been, and always will be, a sci-fi geek. Live long and prosper.)

GHOSTGIRL said...

@amelie mmm I'm thinking Ch as a woman did capture the love scenes personally I felt the emotions more in twlight than NM...I got gosspuns!!the negative part was that as the actors said nicely that she was too wild and crazy..meaning disorganized and experimented a lot wich not necessarily end up looking good.watching NM 3 times I felt nothing but anger at jacob for taking his shirt off the whole time jajajja....I think we should kill Melissa R cause she's the one that missed pivotal scenes in twilight and NM

tgill said...

@amelie it's interesting that you think that NM faded away faster than Twilight, it not only topped the opening weekend but also the Thanksgiving weekend which astonished the movie industry. It's still making money, as of last Monday the worldwide cumulative was approx 682m, it will probably close at over 700m which is nearly twice what Twilight, made which is not bad for a movie that had only about
20m mil more of a budget. My personal preference is NM although I think CH did a stellar job with the casting and setting up the love story.
I wouldn't mind it being one movie if they got rid of that draggy Jacob bit in the middle I liked Jacob in NM but went off him big time in Eclipse.

i loved BD, once its gone, it will be gone forever...

i want the movies to be as full as the books that i love so much. lets just say, someday i will give the movies to my childrens children, and they will be classics. tell the whole story and tell it right.

this isnt about whether or not we want Rob associated with the series anymore. this is a seperate issue all together, its about a classic, that may someday sit along side lord of the rings or star wars.... just sayin....

Unknown said...

I agree with Amelie, Chris Weitz may have it in special effects but that's not the whole point of the story. I really felt the love that was in the book in Twilight(movie). I'm not saying it's the best as I am not an expert in movies, I'm just saying that as a woman who fell inlove with the book because of it's love story, Catherine was able to tap that surface, perhaps because she is also a woman and whenever she had interviews that's what she talks about, on how intense Bella and Edward's love is.

I read a review after Twilight, that Catherine was able to make into a Bronte-esque type of movie and that it has plastered Bella and Edward as iconic love couples. Now that's what the whole series is about!!

LM said...

I have a "disease", I read between 100 and 150 books a year (fiction, non fiction even the labels on cereal boxes if I can't find a book), my daughter has a similar "disease" and writes literary reviews. She hates the Twilight books, thinks they are in need of lots, and lots of editing and have way too many nonessential characters. For some inexplicable reason I like the Twilight saga books and BD was one of my favorites. That said, I think that one long movie (2+ to 3 hrs) has the potential to drag and be boring so I have to go with 2 movies or a much abbreviated version of the story. It could be such a juicy, romantic, and exciting movie. Will Summit make it that way? I don't know. I love Rob but don't like to see him with lipstick and so "still." It is distracting. He is so heartbreakingly beautiful in the NM Volterra scenes when his lips are as more or less normal. The Edward in the books seems not only controlled but very passionate. The kiss in the first movie was beyond words, the long awaited reunion kiss in NM was not as great. Summit do it right in BD, please!

WhyIstheRumAlwaysGone said...

Please don't hate me... I've really, really tried to like BD, but no way. I irrevocably and unconditionally hate the book. Sorry. To me BD is an epic fail and a cruel betrayal of a beautifully crafted world. It almost spoiled the whole Twilight saga for me. There's just some brief and lovely Edward and Bella moments in it, but all the rest goes horribly wrong and weird. Nothing and no one rings true in it. Everything sounds kind of artificial and constrained. Like some bad fan-fiction. So, to me, no movie at all would be perfect, and 2 movies would be my personal brand of nightmare. I can't see how you can make a good movie out of such a bad book. And I do so want to see Rob and Kristen move on to other projects. So, is there anyone else unable to forgive SM for BD like me out there? Am I the only one with big BD issues? OMG please don't let me be the only one.

MMc said...

I want ONE movie - Twilight and New Moon were both over way too quickly - I wanted to sit there forever and watch Rob.

Meet Joe Black was a LONG movie and not a very good one......but watching handsome Brad was wonderful. He was really handsome in that movie.

Plus if they break it up, will we have to wait another 6 months to a year to see it??????? I don't want to wait anymore to finish the saga - the longer it drags out the more the actors will change physically and the more the audience might dwindle from lack of interest and all of the hype and parodies and overexposure it's getting. Young girls can be fickle - one week they like something - the next they hate it and they want to go with what is popular and the longer you wait the more chance another popular movie fad will come along.

Some of my young students are already saying "Twilight's old" "It's so yesterday" It's like........they are OVER IT already.

I think they, Summit, need to grab while the gettin's good and not drag it out anymore.

another reason I want 1 movie: I think the franchise will jump the shark with pt.1 if they have a pt. 2. The ideas in BD are just so wacky if you haven't actually read the story, that the casual viewer is just gonna be like "WUH??"

The franchise will end on a low note if they stick too closely to the actual book and divide it into 2 parts.

Make it one movie and then streamline the storyline like this:

E/B marry
honeymoon
pregnancy
birth/turning
volturi hate the birth
final showdown

Just don't even get into the jacob story or the volturi story too much. STREAMLINE!

I'd love to see Kathryn Bigelow direct BD.
She did Point Break and Strange Days which were high octane action movies but with a lot of heart and human emotions.
Bigelow was married to James Cameron and he's like one amazing freakin' director. (Titanic, Avatar) It would be cool to get him but I doubt he'd do it.

Even though the cast liked working with Chris W. and he's a nice guy - I don't think he has what BD needs.

Gwen Cooper 426 said...

@WhyIsTheRumAlwaysGone, I think there was room for improvement with BD. It felt a bit "rushed" to me. BUT, that said, I'm a serious sucker for a happy ever after, so I forgive SM. There were just so many tangents going on and then the sort of anti-climatic ending, yet tied up in a pretty, sparkly bow. ; )

Still, being the optimist that I am, it is actually possible that BD The Movie could be better than BD The Book. (Sorry, Stephie.) It's a different medium---and gotta say, NM benefited from the tweak Volterra fight scene. Slight tweaks here/there could make the movie rock. LOTR, which I read in high school, bit dry. Yet the movies were stellar! ; )

Nutshell, movie could surpass book.

As long as they leave all the Edward parts in, I'll watch it/them. I hated how the end of NM seemed so rushed; Edward and Bella's connection was muted down to pave the way for her relationship with Jacob to flourish. Cast aside the ogling of Jacob's body, and you are left with a short peek into Edward and Bella's heartbreak and desperate reunion. Hardwicke made me focus on every touch, look, and breath between the two. As to filming the birthing scene, I'm at a loss as to how anyone is going to be able to portray that within a PG13 rating.

I vote for one movie which could be done in 2+ hours. Alot of BD was insignificant. Just a bunch of stuff. Could eliminate most of the book of Jacob as far as I'm concerned. Instead of dealing with the imprinting, they can simply show Alice seeing into the future that Jacob/Res will be together. Most time should be devoted to B/E. This book is clearly about them. Not enough content for 2 movies. Just saying.

I think one movie, directed by Tim Burton, using the claymation figures like on the Nightmare Before Christmas....45 minutes max....couple of song & dance routines...maybe like Westside story...vamps vs. werewolves...out pops claymation baby-thing...few good songs...another westside story thing....good vamps/werewolves vs. Volturi....Jack Nicholson could narrate in his best Shining Jack voice. Great comments and opinions on this thread.
@jc, tend to agree with you about Summit, ultimately it's going to be about $$, and after the amount they got from NM they should open their belts and make BD a true blockbuster & hire some creative people to be involved in the process. I have always had a problem with MR as scriptwriter, and I think a change is due.
@RPG, agree, let him go. As someone said "for the love of Rob" Kristen & Taylor, too. To think they would have to go through 2 more movies in this franchise, Gawd! Good point that Rob could do other stuff in between, but still. I think they could get rid of the "fat" as someone says and make one movie. They could make it great if they are willing to put the bucks out there (it's Hollywood), so what if it's a long movie, NO ONE will complain. I don't think SM has anything to say about it - she SOLD the rights. CH was too reverential to her IMO.
Remember what Rob said at Comic Con about the scene he was most looking forward to?? "The C-section". LOL. Bring it on.

@Ana73, one of the other sites stated that SM did have control over the movie(s). (If I created the characters and wrote the story? Darn skippy, I'd do it that way too. My words, my way. Go Steph!) MR is, in theory, translating SM's story into movie dialogue and action.

And yes, if two movies, they would have to film concurrently/back-to-back (filming as if one production, yet knowing it'll be split). Like LOTR did. And HP just did.

I'm betting on two---Summit's going to milk that cash cow!!! ; )

I did so because I loved the first 3 books and had to finish the series each time. I honestly felt that there were some good moments in the book, but it was over the top, a little boring a times and unsatisfying to me. If they do make a movie, I hope they make it short, cut the fat to make it more of a sophisticated horror/suspense like Rosemary's Baby. That story line was ridic too, but Roman Polanski (weirdo that he may be) did a stellar job on that movie and one almost believes it happened. I will go and see it of course no matter what they do. :-)

@RPL, that is almost as disturbing as NJ Rob (arghhh, yak, guh). Weird and glad we're all sane (ish) here.

Hiya, Pining!

it was nice speaking with you for a bit, sparkledazed. :) i'm going to head out now. lol i've been a bit distracted and i should get some sleep anyway. but maybe we could chat again some time. i love discussing movies. have a good evening!

@Gwen: Whatever the other site said, no, SM doesn't have control over the movies. She sold rights to the stories to Summit. Once that happens, then MR can write the script/s. She has some input on script, but its a courtesy. Believe me, if those who wrote the orginals could have more control over the finished product of adaptations, they would luv it! lol

I think fansof these books critizise MR too much when all the critics they have goes to SM.
I am sorry but i can be honnest and say she can't write. I am not ashamed to say it and feel free to bashed me but she can't write a shit.

Have you ever try to read the book outloud, it's ridiculous. Nothing happens in the books.

There is not so much MR can do about it.
And when you ask people about goods moment in the movie, it's often things that MR has writen that was memorable/
like: charlie, I'm sorry but it's melissa who developped the charlie everyone like to talk about because the one in the book is non existent.

Jessica and all tghe human in general, they have the best lines why because it's not SM LInes.

The way she introduce the character like the vilain, it was clever.

I really like what she did with ridleys eventough most of the twihards hated, it makes more sense and the new borns don't just pop of in the story like a trick.

All the cringing line rob, kris, and taylor have to endure are line from the books and they are maybe good when you read it in your head but outloud you just go like, what the fuck.

I am glad BA is starding preproduction next week so if the movie comes out before black dumm sorry BD, i can skip BD and spend the extra money en BA this sound like a clever thing to do.

@ AP
It depends on how you negociate the contract.
Some writer have more say than others.

My parents work for a very snobish Tv station in france ARTE.
They do alot of documentary about jewish, social issues and stuff like that. They work with writers, some wants to have absolute control on the product and other just doesn't care that much. And even when they don't care they give you restriction to what you can take out or added to their story.

I know from kris interview that SM was spend quite a lot of time on set of eclipse. And that she MR and work really together on the script.

Laurie--we have the same 'disease' here in my family--we all read voraciously. And although I did love the love story and the underlying issues in Twilight saga, I was appalled by the mistakes which any middle school student, let alone an editor, ought to have found.

As for inputs from writers into movies-- it can be negotiated; it depends if money is the more important to the writer than what she would want done with her story and characters. I believe that JK Rowling retained a fair amount of control and approcal; I had thought Stephenie Meyers did as well but am not sure. I am working on a novel now and would not sell movie rights except with specific parameters. And I am sooo not a control freak. But if it means not getting it published or having to self-publish, I would rather that than have someone louse up the story and characters.

AP said...

@damourkrist: Well, I don’t know about French tv, but in Hollywoodland, if you sell the rights to an original story, novel, play, script to a studio legally they own it, and can do as they wish with it. They can hire one or ten writers to rework it. They can change the ‘tone’ of the novel, as they did with Forest Gump, leave out large chunks of story, or change the storyline significantly, if they wish. You can try to negotiate for more creative control, but that is unlikely to happen, especially for first-time writers. Any inclusion of the novelist in development of the screenplay is a courtesy, not a prerogative. I'm sure the studios are more careful with writers who have large fan bases, such as Rowling & Meyer, but they do not HAVE to be. lol

@Solas: You are wise to be realistic about selling as a first-time writer - who might not have a built-in fanbase.;) The studios are the ones in a position to accept/reject and don't take kindly to 'demands' unless you have a lot of clout. (Btw, it's "A". I had to change my ID because there was another "A" who posted here - I didn't think that was possible, but now I'm "AP.")

solas said...

Thanks A (p). I really would rather continue in abject poverty than see my book made into something with which I would feel ashamed or aggravated. I am not so sure it would make a good movie anyway, but if it were to be made into one, I would want to make sure it isn't contrary to what I want or believe.

solas said...

Some might see the Fountainhead influence there but would rather that than the BelAmi take on things! ;-)

solas said...

damourkist--if you read Midnight Sun, Stephenie Meyers as-yet-unfinished verson of Twilight from Edward's point of view, you will see a more thorough presentation of the human and even non-human characters.

LM said...

Solas, good luck with your novel! Like most readers I have thought about writing a novel but with an in house critic there is a great chance of a negative review. Too timid, am I.

Who said Tim Burton? I kind of like that idea. Didn't Rob suggest Van Sant?

AP said...

@Solas: I'm afraid the world at large might be closer to the land of Bel Ami, but I like to hear of people maintaining their integrity. :) I think it's also one of the appealing ingredients of the Twilight story, ie. Edward. I liked Midnight Sun - much more interesting to see the change, or arc, of his character than in Twilight.

solas said...

laurie--thanks. The novel is very strange and is very hard to get into English.

Ap--yes, re Midnight Sun. I have read a few fanfics of Twlight, New MOon, and and Eclipse from Edward's POV and I do like them, but I appreciate Stephenie's take as she created the characters; some ff writers did not stay true to the characters. By dint of Edward's ablty to read minds, we see so much more in his POV. I do wish SM would finish it.

I think they should do 2 movies....one PG13 for the tweens and one R-rated for the rest of us! I have to say that I'm very disappointed to hear that Melissa Rosenberg is the screenwriter for BD. I do not think she has done a proper dramatization of either book so far. I was hoping for a fresh and better take on BD.
JMHO!

solas said...

And yes, AP, the BelAmi approach certainly seems horrifyingly dominant in the world.

One of the most normal things about me when was a teen was: I always wanted to find and marry a Howard Roarke--and not just for the physical description. Of course one of the more abnormal things was: When I was in highschool, I kept begging==get me to Galt's Gulch!
And sadly, I have never found either.

solas said...

sus--on the other hand, Breaking Dawn has some really bizarre aspects, and MR was so brilliant with Dexter; perhaps she can do bizarre better?

solas said...

And now I'd best get some sleep before the Dawn Breaks here! (and i would be a red-eyed monster indeed!)

AP said...

@Solas: Yes,those figures were 'ideals' that I'm not sure could exist outside Rand's fictional world. Her relationships included a bel ami of sorts - such is the real world. ;) Nite.

Kristen will be awesome as a vamp especially if they make her up like the Bella Swan wallpaper of her.......what redblooded man vamp will be able to resist her,not her man Edward that's for sure.
Bring on Isle Esme.
I'm all for 2 movies shot back to back with all the juicy parts included.

Was it really late when SM wrote the name of the baby? Seriously, could she not come up with something else?? I am restarting BD tomorrow. I just finished it today for the first time. I had a hard time getting into some of it. It was a little too out there in parts. Maybe someone can help it become a masterpiece of a movie! Throw lots and lots of money at it.

Latebloomer said...

I add my two cents in that I want the Twilight Shizz to be over! I'm sure Rob does too! If I were him I would chomping at the bit to get the hell out of my contract and become a FREE agent! Further, I would do as much work as possible... and as much DIFFERENT kind of work as possible... to put "Edward" as far behind me as possible.

I'm sure he's grateful for the breakout opportunity. However, no actor wants to be defined by one role for the rest of their career.

Massage the material (BD) so one GOOD MOVIE gets made... NOT TWO BAD ONES! They did it with Lord of The Rings... and jeez, that was great material.

Twilight saga.... not so much.

Susanne said...

One movie, please!!! Until the second part came into the theaters, nobody would care anymore( except for us, of course)! Remember, it will not be in theaters until at least summer 2011!!!

I think all the actors should move on to other projects.

This movie is gonna be the emotional hell of all the fans. So many either have views on so manhy things. Its a shame in the end theyre gonna be disappointed. I really believe its gonna be made into 2 movies. I believe it can be done. Many are already upset at readikng the leaked Eclipse script (thanks jackson butter fingers~!:))SO many didnt like the book. But I loved it. Its my favorite. Ironically twilight put me to sleep. but thats just me the drama queen. Bring it on. If I had one wish I wished they got rid of the screenwriter. I heard she butchered Eclipse. No surprise for me.

skorpia said...

Oh and Rob didnt HAVE to do the Breaking Dawn movies. The fact that he signed up to do it (and got a pretty penny for it Thank God) makes me comfortable that he knows what he's getting into. No one forced him. So, I cant wait for the explosian of different opinions on the blogs. I hope theyre all as cool as this one. Different opinions-agree to disagree. Long live Rob! Cant wait to see ya Boo!

I don't htink they should do two movies because that might really kill the franchise.
But suppose they split it: They'd have wedding, honeymoon(without sex scenes, just fade to black damnit), pregnancy and transformation for the first one. But for the second? There's not much left is, there? Just Bella going on about how amazing she is, the half-breed and the great battle that never happens. Now THAT sounds really fun to watch. BD split in two: a nightmare
Also I prefer seeing Rob in other roles and I think it would be better for him if he gets over and done with twilight asap

Amelie said...

@Tgill, thanks for taking interest on my last comment. When i said that NM was fading away fast i meant to say that it didn't sustain it's rank as #1 ( see Box office Mojo) It fell #2 to the "The Blind Side" on Thanks giving Day, 11/25. Why? I wished i know. Yeah, it came back #1 on that TD. weekend but continued to decline steadily. It was viewed in more than 4,042 in the U.S.compared to 3,140 for the Blind Side" As of 1/10, it went down to #11 while the Blind Side is still in the top #7. Both movies opened simultaneously. While NM peaked at its 2 opening weekend it went into steady decline. the BS rose steadily and maintained it's position on the top. Yeah, it's an unusual life cycle for a movie. I'm sure Summit is analyzing this very carefully. The next Twi-saga will determine the marketability of the proposed "Breaking Dawn". Let "Eclipse" be done first and we'll see if we are ready for the "Breaking Dawn"

annaz said...

It NEEDS to be two movies so that i can watch the first one (wedding, honeymoon,Bella's turning), and skip the second one(Jacob-Tayfest,the EPIC non-fight).
Anyway, the Eclipse script has left no doubt that Bella wants to be a vampire first(YAY! for the independent woman who knows her mind) and than Edward(who cares for true love anyway!).Looks like Jacob got a better-Bella-free deal. lucky guy. LOL! So this saga is pretty much done for me.

I am really thankfull for what twilight did to rob carrer and all the other of the gang.

But what i can't stand is to see this kids loose opportuinity to work with the greatest out there just because of twilight.

Sorry, but i don't want rob to loose another part like part for a billion.
That would have been a great experience to work with new people from different background. It would have added something to his range.

I'm mad that Kristen has to give up the the book of eli part to mila kurtis, Not that the part was some oscar worthy thing but just because is some action movie and she has never done one. That was something i was looking for.

If the books get made i just hope that noone loose another gig for another pointless and stupid BD.

The books are shit, I am sorry but MR is a really good writer but she can't turn this piece of crap into a masterpiece.

We also know that rob, and the gang have already signed for the movie.
They are waiting because they can't find a director stupid enough to commit to that piece of crap.

There are more people here, disliking Breaking Dawn than I thought. Good. Now I'm not so lonely anymore. We used to be only a few people around here not liking the book, and I was about the only one who didn't want this film to be made at all.

Est said...

@damourkrist
you are brutally honest...and that's why i totally agree with you about the books and the whole Twilight Saga movies. Rob and Kris deserve better parts because their characters in Twilight don't allow them to show all of their potential, in my opinion

katykeene said...

NO! NO! NO! TO TWO MOVIES...

Really the ONLY reason Summit will spin this out into two movies is to make money.
NOTHING to do with the actors. NOTHING to do with a brilliant script (because MR would have to perform a miracle to turn BD into that).
EVERYTHING to do with how easily they believe they can whip the fans into a frenzy and sell them anything.

katykeene said...

and Phos you need not feel lonely.

I personally think they could have tacked the wedding onto the end of the Eclipse movie and Bella and Edward could have ridden off into the sunset and lived/unlived happily ever after.
Then Rob and Kristen and the rest of the cast could move on and prove or disprove they have the ability to make it outside the Twilight franchise.
IMO some of them will not.
In fact I think that Anna Kendrick might be one of the most successful stars to come out of it. (Besides Rob of course.)

Unknown said...

I agree, one movie is best. Especially if they don't even start filming until next fall. It would be too long until the second one came out. And I think that's risky for the studio. Who knows what the interest will even be for the series in a couple years when the final part comes out.

Someone posted earlier here that teenagers at her school are already saying that Twilight is "out". Especially when you consider the wacky material that's in BD. I'm in the middle of reading it for the 2nd time right now and I cringe so much when I picture Rob & Kristen having to act out this book (with the exception of the wedding/honeymoon of course:))

And speaking of Rob, up until now, we've just had the Twilight movies to see him in and get our Rob "fix", but he's going to be in other movies between now and when BD comes out, thus other options for getting that Rob "fix". Two BD's could be very risky financially for Summit.
