A New Movie for Robert Pattinson?

From Variety.com:

Sean Penn and Robert Pattinson are circling Fox 2000's "Water for Elephants," with Reese Witherspoon already attached to star and Francis Lawrence attached to direct.

Film is based on the best-selling historical tome of the same name by Sara Gruen. Scribe Richard LaGravenese will adapt for the bigscreen.

Gil Netter, Erwin Stoff and Andrew Tennenbaum are producing.

Studio wouldn't confirm details of the project.

Set during the Great Depression, Gruen's book tells the story of a Cornell Unviersity veterinary student who leaves his studies after his parents are killed, and joins up with the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, working as a vet for the circus.

Gah. Such a great book, he would be perfect as the lead. The character is kind of a sensitive good guy who gets dropped into a crazy situation, but he finds his way, with a little luck. Penn would absolutely be fabulous as the crazy circus director. I can kind of see RW as Marlena too. Hope this is true.

Well I like Reese witherspoon, I just read the synopsis for this book and while it seems a bit strange because apparently most of it happens in the circus, it appears to be a love story at it's heart between the abused Marlen and Jacob, as well as Jacob's life story. Oh I think Robert would be really good for the role of Jacob! (But I really think that they should change the name of the lead character, it's a matter of principle LOL). I hope he does get the role if he is interested in it.

I haven't read this book yet, but it seems like an interesting story...public library here I come! lol

He is moving up!! So happy for him, that he is getting some great roles.
I wonder if that means they will be filming at Cornell University? I see a road trip in my future if that is true.

Crossing everything this may happen - especially with Penn in the mix. LaGravenese adapting is great but Francis Lawrence is an interesting choice...

Going up against two Oscar winners! Don't tell me the industry isn't taking Rob seriously, despite the naysayers.

Penn brings the gravitas, and for those who find him grating Witherspoon brings the tenderness. Rob? .... brings the aching and heat! Really really REALLY hoping this project pans out.

Haystack,
You read my mind!!!!

This is wonderful...to be in a movie with Sean Penn is quite something-RW I can take or leave-sometimes she's great, sometimes not....

@Haystacker, yes there is! :-)

@justamirror, ITA with you about Sean Penn, but I don't see Reese Witherspoon as Marlena.

The main character --Jacob (Ironic isn't it?)--is Polish and the book jumps back in forth in time when he was young to an old man. It would be a great and challenging role. While it's hard for me to see Rob playing this character, I'm sure he can do it. I hope he gets it!

But, how can I read real books when all I do is read fan fiction? LOL!

Go Rob, go! If this works out, what an amazing cast. All the haters can kiss my butt.

I saw VF on DVD a few years back. And got to see Rob short lived and edited out performance. It was damn good and they made a mistake cutting him out. But it turned around for Rob's good getting the HP role.

Rob showed presence in VF. You couldn't help looking at him the whole time during that scene. You could see the potential. And he looked damn pretty too. LOL Oh and TomStu was in this as well. He played the son of the best friend I believe.

Shani, why was he cut from VF? The clip here is great---he looks Fab too. ; ) As ever.

IMDB says there were too many characters for a two-hour movie? Maybe that was it? Haven't seen it, obviously.

I just wish this is true!!!!!!!!!!!

I just watched the clip-I've never seen the movie...Rob was damn fine, but I'm sorry I had to laugh at RW, that was not good acting...I realized it's just a short scene, so she might be better in other parts-

RPG, I did the same thing. I bought the movie, watched Rob's part and never got around to watching the movie. LOL

I'll have to around to doing that.

New vid for me! Damn, Rob looked hot in his period clothes!
New movie possiblity sounds very interesting. Man, they are working the hell out of Rob while the getting is good!!! However, this just shows me that his acting credibility is high. I don't care who you are or your bankability status, you'd be an idiot to put someone up for a role in a "A" movie if there was no acting talent. Rob has IT!!!

@Haystack-any Rob movie should have mandatory sex scenes!!!!

FILTM!!!

OMG what a loss for Vanity Fair not to include those scenes with Robert. Was there ever a more photogenic, gorgeous actor? I don't think so.

I hope Reese fights for him to be in this movie. She owes him from Vanity Fair. Or at least someone owes all of us who didn't get to see him in Vanity Fair. Thanks for this clip. Just when I think I can't be more obsessed something like this is posted and my obsession goes up yet another notch.

It is interesting how things work out, though. As beautiful as he is in the VF ending that never was, it was his part being cut out that made the casting agent feel badly for him, pushing for him to be in GoF which gave him wide exposure, a name, experience in a franchise with well-grounded stars, ablty to carry himself in the PR for GoF, etc.

I agree on the name change cuz people will likely still associate it with Twilight, but of course changing the character's name could cause an uproar from the fans of the book, just like what happened to Mr.Banner to Mr. Molina.

Anyway, I would be very happy for Rob if he gets this role, it would be a challenge to act along well-established actors. He could learn many things from them and improve his craft more. What do we know maybe he could someday follow Sean Penn's footsteps in terms of acting.

I hope this isn't just another rumor to have their magazines sell.
