Red Carpet Experience and a Glimpse of Robert Pattinson

Great account from a lucky London Premiere ticket winner...

Long story short, i sold myself out like a 16yr old fan girl and sold my soul to the twitter devil to get Remember Me premiere tickets. I did not know at the time this would involve walking down the red carpet while Robert Pattinson was on it. Let me just say, he signed autographs and did press easily for well over an hour, what a lovely guy. The moment i saw him i was just “wowed” he was tall, slim and very handsome.Everything you’d expect and more. Cliche i know, but it’s the whole hearted truth.

I didn’t meet him. No. Thats not what people do on the red carpet apparently, which i’ll have you know was VERY daunting experience. Theres a couple of hundred fans and photographers in all directions and people telling him where to go. Also people directing you in every direction too, it’d look suspicious if you stopped for a minute unless you were a celebrity stopping to get your photo taken. After Emilie and Robert walked the carpet, which did seem to take ages they introduced the film (then whisked away to an after party somewhere, they didn’t stay to watch it). They were cute and made a few jokes about having to pay for the popcorn.

Onto the film, which i was really keen on seeing in the first place because i’d followed the shooting of it last summer and was even in NYC while they were filming . Dont worry no spoilers, i won’t ruin it because…its awesome. I always say you can’t beat a film where the actors and actresses can actually act and convey real human emotion, there’s also no major effects (well maybe one, but lips are sealed) and impressive budgets (part of the reason i think Hurt Locker won over Avatar). Not ONCE during the film did i think “oh thats Edward”. Don’t go to the film thinking this is going to be a lovey “dovey” romantic film. It’s less about romance and more about connecting with another person whether that is your lover, father, best friend or brothers and sisters. Tyler, who Robert portrays isn’t the kind of character you’d expect him to be, he is rebellious but because he cares which i personally think a lot of people do lack these days…the guts to stand up in what you believe in and it’s done in a very real sense too. I couldn’t help feel Ravin was just a support character though which is a shame because she’s a talented actress (watch Brick). The ending, could have been ruined and i think i was literally whispering “dont ruin it, please” but was done tastefully. You’ll see what i mean when you see it. It may bring a tear to your eye, it may make you think about eating dessert before dinner because you only get one shot and it will definitely make you think about “living in the moments”.

The film has had a lot of stick in the press over its opening weekend and I’m not really sure why really. It’s an independent film, remember Summit Entertainment are not a major studio yet it managed to finish fourth. I think a lot of people were expecting because it had the “star factor” it was going to open majorly big, so a lot of Robert fans went, however a lot of people who are not fans didn’t go because they were expecting a high budget romantic film. People who love “indie” movies will definitely like this. RM opened with $8.9m and reached 4th and She’s Out of My League reached 3rd with $9.78m, which was done by Paramount a major with a big viral marketing campaign and opened in roughly 600 more cinemas than RM…so cut the film some slack you idiotic critics *cough* TED C. Basically Mark, who i went with is predominantly a bit of a “guy” and his favourite genre is Horror…he gave it 8/10 (9/10 cos he thought Emilie was hot). That says it all really, go see it.

Out of my night, i got to walk a red carpet, got some free vitamin water (love that stuff), experience a premiere and see the gorgeous R-Pattz in real life. Thats enough for me.

Sounds like all the way around a great night. I'm sorry you didn't get to meet Robert though. Seems like if you won something you should be able to at least look him in the eye and say hello.

Thanks for the gorgeous photo. Must say I can't understand with RP being so popular why the film doesn't have higher box office. Where are all the fans?

And yes it was a great movie!

Thanks for sharing your story.

Don't worry..I too "sold myself out like a 16yr old fan girl and sold my soul to the twitter devil" to win tickets to see Rob in person. Your not alone! I was not fortunate to meet him either but that's ok. Just being able to get near him and set actual eyes on the actual him was wonderful. He has a presence about him that just lights up a room. Amazing experience in itself.

Saw the movie last weekend. Loved it too.

What a great experience for you. I too am sorry that you didn't even get to say hi to him. As for the box office...

As I said previous, I too was disappointed with a less than 10 million dollar take opening weekend. I thought his name and fan base could have pulled in a bit more, but Alice is really taking the bite out of the box office right now. Nobody is doing well against it. Matt Damon's film only pulled in 14 mil. But I've been doing some thinking about this and trying to figure out why it isn't doing as well as was expected.

The ending got leaked long ago and with the subject matter, some might have said...no thanks, I'll pass (and don't put much credence into what the critics have to say. They trashed Twilight and look what happened there) Speaking of...

The Twilight crowd isn't neccesarily the Rob Pattinson crowd (and this is most likely going to be THE lesson learned of this film). And we know it's true as a good portion of the Twilight fanbase couldn't give a hang about Rob. They're the Stephenie Meyer crowd, totally in love with Edward. PERIOD! Then you got the little girls who's mama's are not going to be taking them to marketed romance about college kids. And finally, you've got the Robsten (god, I hate that word) crowd who don't want to see him onscreen EVER NEVER with anyone other than Kristen Stewart. This is a weird fandom folks. And once Twilight is through, this portion of the fandom probably won't blink twice as Rob's career unfolds. And I think the press just assumed that if all these people are showing up for Twilight that they'll then show up for anything that Rob does. No. What did Taylor's Valentine's Day do at the box office? Any of Kristen's little indies go through the roof? Twilight is a whole other animal. And it's totally unfair to Rob Pattinson to expect that all of his films have to be huge box office hits because of Twilight. They're not all going to be. If he continues to go the indie route, most of them won't be. Oh, he'll still remain a star because the Twilight Saga is buying him alot of treasure in Hollywood. He's still got three more blockbusters to go with this thing and that's buying him time to go out and make the 'small' films that truly seem to be what interests him.

I think this one may have some legs. I don't know. Depends on word of mouth and it seems to me that those who like this film, REALLY LIKE IT! I also suspect that this one may do better overseas than here in America.

But with a 16 million budget, by the time they count the total worldwide box office and dvd sales, this one isn't going to lose money. Unfortunately, the press will spin it as a failure because it didn't make a 100 million at the U.S. box office.

Thanks for your clear, well-cut analysis nikola6! I think you are so right. I guess many very young Twilight fans generally do not care about Rob but only about Edward. All these screaming (and to be honest sometimes a bit scary) fangirls we saw at the premiere are very young and I bet they will not necessarily go and see RM. They only wanted to see him, get a pic and something signed, and go home saying they've seen Edwaaaard. My 14 year old niece is crazy about Edward but she does not like Rob: she says he's not handsome!! She's only interested in Twilight and the Vampire Diaries just now and does not want to go and see RM at all -she's waiting for Eclipse. So it's totally unrealistic and unfair to think an indie like RM would do the same money as Twilight, but I think some people in the business and the press deliberately spread the notion that it should. Which made no sense at all! However, I seem to remember it was predicted to gross around $11/12M on the opening week-end, so maybe that's why some ppl said it bombed - which of course is totally untrue.

Thanks for the comments guys. It didn't even matter that i didn't get to meet him, i'm too fumbly to meet famous people anyway. I saw him in the flesh and that was enough.

As for the film not doing as well as people thought, the last paragraph kinda sums it up i hope!
