Reply: I agree that some of the pics we got of him this past week are a bit invasive. But I am glad that all the pics were taken from a respectable distance, and that they didn't surround Robert or get up in his face.

I must say that while I am not really interested in this movie, because it doesn't appeal to me character wise or storyline wise, I am a sucker for period pieces (specifically romantic period pieces, which unfortunately they don't do a lot of at all).
So Bel Ami semi fits, in that it is a period piece, but it isn't a romantic period piece. So while I know I won't be seeing it in theaters, I know that I will be seeing it for sure on dvd rental.

Are you saying that if he plays characters on screen who engage in sex, that he has no class? Well then. I guess that would eliminate most actors (male and female) in the world from your 'has class' list as almost all of them engage in such onscreen.
From what he has said, Rob is drawn to conflicted and even dark characters. Case in point? His portrayal of Edward. The studio wanted 'lighter.' Rob wanted 'darker.'
That's not to say that he won't play 'light' and 'happy' characters during his career. But I don't think that is what truly attracts his eye. I mean for god's sake. The man has said his dream role would be that of the biblical Job. Now there's a happy, light character for you.
I just don't know what the type of characters an 'actor' portrays onscreen have to do with the 'class' of the actor portraying them.
Having class is simply how you treat people. No more. No less. It has nothing do with individual morality, social stature or wealth. You could be a dumpster bum or a bag lady pushing a grocery cart in the streets and be loaded with class.
It's how you treat people. And from what I've been able to observe, Robert Pattinson is also loaded with class.

He was making a film with Hugh Jackman (which Jackman was producing). It was a murder mystery involving underground sex clubs in NY (and yeah, they're real. they exist).

Regarding the differences between the papps in America and England...
I think the papps are relentless whatever country they're in because of the internet. They can get these pictures up and sold within minutes. And at the moment, Rob is arguably, the most photographed person in the world (Brad and Angie might have him beat, but not by much. His pics certainly are number one on the internet)
I think the papps are scarier here in LA as oppose to NY or London because here, they give chase in cars. LA is huge. Spread out and everything is connected by the freeways (there's an on ramp or off ramp every few miles or so). Not so much in inner city NY or London as you have to drive out of the city to get to the freeways.
In terms of who's got more ethics when it comes to publishing certain photos? I don't know anymore. But I seriously doubt a legitimate newspaper in America; NY Times, Wash Post, LA Times, Chicago Tribune would put a full frontal nude photo of our president on it's front page. They did that in London to Prince Charles.
So...I don't know.

Well, doesn't our boy look soooooooo handsome? I was a bit worried about what he would look like in Bel Ami - well what can I say - he looks beautiful. And now we know why he was very hairy for the last couple of months - he was growing his hair and sideburns - mmmmmm.
Must say I'm not impressed with the cretin who posted the pics of Rob with the toilet roll - that's just not fair and shows no class whatsoever.

Bel Ami...(and for those who haven't read the book and don't want to know anything about the story, the rest of my comment is SPOILER!!! So...scroll on by)...
I'm just wondering if they're going to end the story as written and if so, I might have a problem with that. Most stories are morality plays, meaning, the good guy gets rewarded in the end and the bad guy
'gets his'. Not this time.
Has anyone seen Warren Beatty's Shampoo (1975)? It is a modern day re-telling of Bel Ami. It takes place in Beverly Hills against the backdrop of the 1968 Presidential election. Beatty plays George (yeah, they used the same name), a Beverly Hills hairdresser who's trying to get backing for his own shop which would then help him climb the ladder of showbiz society. He's gorgeous, all the women want him and he's screwing everybody in town. He befriends a wealthy older man in hopes of getting him to financially bankroll his own shop. However, George just happens to be screwing this man's wife, mistress and teenage daughter (he's also got a long standing and long suffering girlfriend). But in the end, George 'gets his.' He realizes that he really does love the mistress of this older man and wants her to leave the older guy and marry him. But she doesn't. She loves him, but in the end, she leaves him and goes back to the older man and George is left alone and broken. I bring this up because...
This doesn't happen in Bel Ami. At the end, Georges has got EVERYTHING he's ever wanted. He's walking down that aisle with Suzanne on his arm and with his eye back on Clotilde and there sits, Suzanne's mother. Having to watch as her daughter marries the man she both loves and loaths. She is destroyed. Where is the morality play here?
Speaking of Madame Walter...her's might not be the biggest female character in the book, but she is the BEST. An actresses' dream role. And I still say that if they do this right, Kristen Scott Thomas could walk off with an Oscar nomination for it. It's that kind of role. In Shampoo, Lee Grant played the similar role (wife of the older man, mother of the teenage daughter) and she DID win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.
Okay. I'm done. Off to search for some productivity. Maybe a run to the market? Think I'm out of toliet paper.

Although I am not in favour of gov't imposed censorship, I AM in favour of self-censorship, when a person realizes that perhaps something should not be said or shown.
RV verbalized after posting that maybe she should delete, and that subconscious to conscious realizatoin of possibly not being quite right is an example of herself consdiering self-censorship. Self-censorship is not a bad thing.
And although it is true that words on one level might not make one 'bleed or die', they can embarrass and they do degrade. I have been called to task as being disrespectful about Rob smoking--I find it ugly, unappealing, stupid, self-destructive and G-d forbid deadly- and it is only for the utmost respect and concern for him that I ever say I wish fervently he would stop smoking. And it is only out of concern for him that I would say anything others have considered disrespectful or too personal (I have been called to task for my concern about his possible PT/OT challenges, and only posted THAT because it takes a half year for him to read his mail, and it is impossible for me to get through to his manager or agent, to have him get that checked out professionally before doing something contra-indicative and therefore truly dangerous).
But I try to measure what I say by my life guidelines: treat others as you would like to be treated, and don't treat others as you would not like to be treated, and think about the other person and what he might want and need in case how he wants to be treated is different from myself.
I wouldn't want photos of myself buying undergarments, carrying tampons or toilet paper, going to the loo, and I wouldn't want speculation of my taking care of my sexual needs, etc. That's just myself, and I do see from postings here that many if not most of you don't care about that, and feel fine about talking about such personal things for anyone on the internet to read. And I also see so many phantasies of what some of you would do, the sparkly unicorns, etc etc. But phantasies, as explicit and graphic as some are, are not the same as actualities of a real person's personal life. Since many of you realize Rob is shy and somewhat sensitive, and deeply private, perhaps you could consider that there is a difference between what you would say about yourselves, and what you would say about himself.

I do understand what you're saying, but...we've got an interesting situation here. We've got hundreds and hundreds of people with all kinds of sensibilities and attitudes coming here to 'chat.' And how do we police all of that? What one might find offensive will 'cause another to fall off of their chair in hilarity. It's kinda like art. One man's art is another man's pornography.
I may be over stepping here (speaking for others) but I think those of us who engage in the silly sex banter are simply 'playing'. It's just fun and games. A joke and nothing to be taken seriously. And I would swallow my teeth if any of these ladies here were to EVER speak to him in such a manner as we do not know him. And some might say that is hypocritical; to play around in such a way on a public forum and yet, wouldn't dare behave as such in his presence. I don't think so.
This is all just a joke. I don't think if you were to scroll around this blog that there is any shortage of love and respect shown for this young man. I think it all balances out. And speaking for myself...
I wouldn't have a single problem with Robert Pattinson reading ONE WORD that I've written here; the serious stuff and the silly sex talk. The boy has a sense of humor.

@Nikola6 - I just finished reading BA and was shocked by the ending. ***SPOLERS*** I was totally expecting a comeuppance for Georges. Then again, I don't think Georges women were any better than he. Madeleine was unfaithful, and Madame Walter was very childish. She got on my nerves as much as she got on his. I don't understand why people think the women in the book were so wonderful. I only liked Clo.

Everyone is entitled to their own tastes. My baby sister doesn't like sexually explicit stuff either. But then...she's a Mormon. Whadda ya gonna do? We argue over what should or should not be shown in Breaking Dawn. She want's it to remain a PG fairy tale and I want more of an adult story **which the author** wrote; a honeymoon with feathers flying and a ripped up headboard, a birthing scene to make our jaws drop and some good vampire lovin' after Bella's turn. Don't think were gonna get it, but that's what I want to see. I don't like seeing things sanitized. This is what Meyer wrote and this is what should be portrayed. And I'm not talking extremely graphic, but not sanitized either.

You're right. A lot of times in real life, the bastards get away with it. But not so much in artistic expression. Sometimes, yes. But in most cases, especially films, they turn them into morality tales. Just like they did with the modern re-make with Warren Beatty. George 'got his' in the end.
I think that is more satisfying for an audience rather than having a bastard walk off scott free.

Of course he's aware of the internet and the insanity that ensues here. Hell, he's a child of the internet. He's read some of the blogs and has even admitted to reading his own fan-fic (commenting that a lot of it is surprisingly well written and hardcore). And I figure if he can survive the fan-fic, he can survive ANYTHING!!!
Personally, I think he would be more offended by someone telling him not to smoke than he would be by jokes about jizzy pops (c'mon. that's funny. if I do say so myself). 'Cause smoking is a personal choice of his. And he gets to do that without others passing moral judgement on him.
And maybe some aren't passing that judgement. They're just concerned about his health. Fine. But still...he knows it's stupid. I'm a smoker and I know it's stupid. But I don't want someone telling me so. I doubt he does either. It kinda pisses us off to have our stupid behavior pointed out to us.
As one who usually likes happily after endings, I understand that audiences would be satisfied with come-uppance at the end. But considering that no one was particularly good in the book BelAmi, that they all manipulated and used people and used sex and whatever else they could to get ahead financially and politically, you would have to have them all hauled away in the paddy wagon, or have them all catch some disease from all their shenanigans. And although I do like happily ever endings, I also constantly study human behaviour and its impact on society, and unfortunately for us, most who use, abuse, manipulate, sleep around to get ahead, or just plain sleep around even though they have spouses and children, get away with it on a daily basis, with very few getting caught, very few contrite, and the world rationalizes, excuses, and turns a blind eye.
So, surprisingly to some of you probably, I have no problem if the film follows the book's ending. It's just an indictment on society and human inhuman behaviour.
I'm absolutely loving the fact there's no stache! A beard I could've handled but a stache, NO WAY!!!
Okay. I need to say that differently 'cause someone might call me out for saying what would or would not piss Rob off and rightfully so, because I do not know.
