Hi RPG!!

Yes! Bring on Dangerous Edward!!!

Isn't it about time we got to see our man in action? LOL
Edward is what he is pictured as in Midnight sun.
He is not Prince Charming. He is a vampire, a killer.
And yes he falls in love with Bella after he first wanted to kill her for making him want her so much.
But he is not that poor thing we see in New Moon.
We now know he is madly in love with Bella and that he'd rather die that say "alive" without her.
But what is he capable of to really protect her and his clan?
I want to see that now and I'm sure David Slade is the perfect guy for that part!

We just have to keep in mind that unfortunatly all these twilight saga movies are PG13. Nothing to do with the directors, only the producers and I guess Stephenie Meyer.
I only hope we really get what we are all waiting for in this movie and especially in Breaking Dawn.... If they are gonna make two movies just for the sake of making double money it's unfair for us.
I want the honeymoon, all the honeymoon, and the rest... LOL...
I think I can endure it, I've been over 13 for quite a while now... LOL...

angie-k said...

LOL! @sissi! Unfortunately we will have to endure PG-13 and just use our wonderful imaginations to fill in the blanks ;)

good morning ladies,o what do you think of what david said?so we are going to have a mean and awesome edward the through way that vampires so david is showing edward's potential and edward killed victoria and help killed also,so that should off have jacob worried, because jacob strength is with his pack and didn't he get injured in the fight?i know he heals fast but the only way to killed a vampire is to take their's head, that is so cool!

we didn't have the chance to hear Slade's point of view. We don't even know him. It's nice to listen to his point of view. I think he got Edward and when he said "he is a vampire after all" I said yes, brink it men

I, like everyone else wants to love this movie. I know it will be good in so far as there is a lot of Rob in it, but I still have doubts as to whether the movie will satisfy my desire to see the relationship of Edward Cullen and Bella Swan brought to the screen. For me, their relationship is what I emotionally connected to in the story. I thought it was beautifully crafted, naturally flowing, complex with subtle nuances. The character of Edward Cullen made my “jaw drop”. His responses were never quite what I expected, and in this, I found him to be amazing.

David seems passionate, but his passions seem to be for the development of the theme of vengeance, the army of newborns (lots of detail here –the pathology – emotional circles, rage, frenzy, first kill), the development of Riley (character arc), and the making of Edward into something really scary – the darkening of the story line. He is inspired to “flesh-out” the villains in the story. He seems to be looking forward to watching the massacre (“great fun to watch”).

The romance he seems to just set aside in a bucket called the “love triangle”. Almost as if the romance is two dimensional for him. It is as if he doesn’t see the romance as being any different from any other romance. Think about it – would this book series have ever been as successful if the romance was just like any other romance. Therein is the artistic challenge – to find and express the elements of emotion that brought women to their knees. If you will remember, he didn’t like this story when all he knew about it was that it was a romance, so as the director, he has now searched out and developed the themes that inspire him.

I believe my sensibilities are different then David’s. We could both read Eclipse over and over and we would both take away something different. It is painful for me to go through the month of June with all the hype for this film, when I think in the end I will be disappointed. I love Robert Pattinson and he is the only one I could ever see playing Edward and I wish the beauty of his character was more artfully depicted.

I need to express myself and I appreciate you listening. All of you, are the only ones that could understand the need.

I know what you mean Lolli. I'm reading Eclipse (again) at the moment, and Edward is blowing me away - he is so loving, funny, protective and restrained with Bella. I would really like to see that come out on the big screen, as well as seeing a bit more of the vampire side of Edward.

It can't be easy for any director - everyone has their own image of Edward in their head.

angie-k said...

@Lolli - I understand where you are coming from, but I don't think ANY director will be able to live up to our expectations of the romance between Bella & Edward. In my heart & head, it is simply epic in nature.

I don't think Catherine Hardwicke did the romance justice either. Not even one "I love You" in Twilight. I can't begin to tell you how disappointing that was for me.

So, if we go to these movies expecting the kind of romance we know, and deeply feel, should be there, we will be hopelessly disappointed. We have to take it as it is: a product of Hollywood.

TeamRobsten said...

@angie You make a really good point. Catherine really did nothing for me in the romance department, with the exception of the prom scene....it was the small details like Edward and Bella not even kissing when he is sending her off with Alice and Jasper to escape James, instead she left it with a longing stare (how strange).
I think for promotional purposes, they are trying to expand the audience, thus playing up the "love triangle" and all of the action. We all are expecting the love story and the romance, but if they only ever promoted that side...people could get bored.
I think the movie will be great with plenty of Bella and Edward stuff....I can't wait for the proposal scene!

Ang... you're right, the words weren't there in Twilight (damn Rosenberg script!), but don't you think the soul of the romance and the love were?

For me, that soul and connection were missing in New Moon, even tho Weitz seems like a sensitive guy and created a great visual world.

Slade definitely seems more focused on the dark side of the story... but I'm more worried about how MR scripted the romance in Eclipse (Bella just takes off on the bike with Jacob, jilting Edward?!). After all, with changing directors, MR is the common thread (and weak link) in the franchise IMO.

modestypatch said...

I freaking love how he seems to really get into the essence of the characters!

Edward IS dangerous. That's what makes his and Bella's love more intense!

Bring out that Bad Boy David Slade! You Rock!!!!!!

angie-k said...

@TeamRobsten & @Loisada - Thank you.

The MR scripts are definitely a weak link, but IMO I think Stephenie Meyer is also a weak link. She has a lot of say on these films and seems to just let so much go.

As far as the soul of the romance being in Twilight and not New Moon, that wasn't the case for me. It was like a tease in both. Almost, but not quite. I knew it should have been there, I wanted it to be there, but I still had to fill in the very large blanks on my own.

And don't get me started on that scene with Edward, Bella, Jacob & the motorcycle! I could rant for hours! LOL! NEVER HAPPENED!!! If there was not enough time in the movie to do both scenes (the one where Jacob "warns" Bella and the one where Bella ditches Alice w/Jacob NOT EDWARD!) then they should have cut out some of the newborn crap! Ok, stepping down...

But I am keeping the faith. Afterall, there were many comments from the Oparh audience (lucky bithces!) that the romance is there.

We can only wait and see.

Lolli - my thoughts exactly. Plus, I'm mad that they are not using Robert's beautiful face like Catherine did. His eyes are mesmerizing and through watching them on screen we can feel what Bella felt when looking at him. He is still gorgeous, but they are not using his full potential and the main story (romance) is lacking its magic. Plus, Edward was very powerful, poker-faced, confident and witty. I don't want to see him as a grumpy, scary creature. Now Jacob is still a sweet little kiddo, disney character really and I can image the little girls in the cinema screaming boooooooo when Bella says YES to Eward if the director really turned him into a beast.

Well I am starting to get worried!!! Slade wants a horror movie not a romance , Yes Edward is a vampire but Bella didn't know when she was first attracted to him! he even bails out of the battle to be with Bella , he didn't even want to fight , he doesn't like being a vampire! um hope Slade doesn't disapoint just to win over a new audience! We want our film of the book! bit late now though!

I'm with you, don't get me started either about that motorcycle scene they showed from MTV Movie Awards. Does this mean they are skipping the classrom note passing when he explains what happened while they were in Florida? Why have they kept MR for all of these films? Is it rocket science to adapt a screenplay from a book?

She really missed the boat in New Moon when Bella & Edward reconnected. There was a lot of missing dialog, such as when he told her,"Your hold is permanent and unbreakable."
Hopefully she will include the touching line in Eclipse, I'll be back so soon you won't have time to miss me. Look after my heart, I've left it with you.

I have re-read Eclipse as well as some ff. Check out Edward's Eclipse(Vixen1836)and The Inevitable(Forbidden Apple)on Twilight Archives. Also Eclipse EPOV(Erica) on the Twilight Saga site. It covers chapters 1-15 & 20-27 from the book. You have to regsiter to read it. Go to Groups then select ff. Scroll down to the discussion forum, click view all, then type in the title in the blank space.I love reading EPOV.

It is too late to afraid from the storyline, this is in the box now.Just look the movie in an another view: far from the book. I made it with New Moon too, and loved the parts with Rob. I think will do it with Eclipse too, the script is far from the book, anyway the movie could be good. I think SM and MR talked over the scripts, they made it this way, and both of them love Jacob more than Edward.
Sissy, I dont think Edward is a poor thing in NM, he just deadly beated by his love and protection for Bella (she doesn't deserve it, but this is my opinion, i don't like Bella in the whole twisaga)

@Lolli, beautifully written post and I agree 100%... this qoute is so right on.

"I thought it was beautifully crafted, naturally flowing, complex with subtle nuances. The character of Edward Cullen made my “jaw drop”. His responses were never quite what I expected, and in this, I found him to be amazing."

I think if I amy be so bold is what captivate us all to Edward Cullen and Robert bringing him to life.

Thanks

AngieK... wasn't it a rough cut of the movie that the Oprah's audience saw? Will they keep everything in there?
