Robert Pattinson's "Water For Elephants" & "Bel Ami" On Shockya's Top 10 Most Anticipated Period Films of 2010

Glad to see we're not the only ones looking forward to these.

2. Water For Elephants

What’s this, another Robert Pattinson film? Of course, he is the hottest thing in Hollywood right now. He plays a veterinarian who joins a traveling circus in the Great Depression. Oscar winners Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz star in this heart felt film about a torn love between his character and the married Marlena (Reese Witherspoon) and his new way of training a stubborn elephant that should get the approval of PETA.

8. Bel Ami

The Story of the rise to power of Georges Duroy in Paris by manipulating the city’s most influential and wealthy women. This film stars Twilight’s Robert Pattinson and many are anxiously waiting to see if Robert can hold his own against Hollywood sirens like Uma Thurman and Kristen Scott Thomas.

Can't wait to see both of them. Love seeing Rob away from the Twilight Saga because it gives everyone a chance to see his acting talent at its best.

Now that I'm recovered.. I am so anxious for both of these movies..

He's making such great choices, and not going for the typical Hollywood blockbuster type movies...

anything with rob is a "most anticipated film" :)

I really like the look in WFE

OT: is anyone reading FF Dont take the Girl??? she really left us hanging with the latest update :( it is a good one if anyone is looking for a new one to read.

OT2: GO LAKERS!!!

Ana73,
Not reading that, but thanks for the rec....

I'm also reading http://www.fanfiction.net/s/5480253/1/Innocence_Is_Dripping_Red

Not for the faint hearted that's for sure....it's very short 8-10 chapters...

Ana73 said...

rpg - i will write that one down :)

DTTG - is a nice story from childhood for E&B, not all angsty but she did leave us hanging on the latest update.

twmmy said...

Ana73, I've found about 21 FFs in progress with this title. Who is the author?

twmmy said...

WOw, I made a big miss. The search option wasn't good, but I've found three. wich is the recommended?

twmmy said...

Ana73, thanks a lot, I miss Motu, so seeking a good one. Rpatzgirl, Innocence_is... is good , I've read the first three chapters

Well, since I am really antcipating and looking forward to these, I guess I have somehow just intersected with --shudder-- mainstream culture somehow.

Had best watch it; wouldn't want to be confused with --shudder-- normal.

Are you guys reading Loner or Hide and Drink? These 2 own me right now....both on Twilighted, but I think H&D is also on fanfic...

AP said...

"hold his own against..." Really? oh, no. lol Not going there. Will have to go and crash. Rob obviously did find working with Declan a good learning experience and sure it helped going into WFE -the film that makes my hair stand on end and gives me goosebumps. Anticipated ain't the word for it...

I cannot wait, these movies are going to be epic. Between these movies, RM on DVD, Eclipse, BD, we are going to be surrounded by Robhotness for quite a while. I'll be DED, but what a way to go.
Is anyone reading Just Wait? That one is owning me right now. Can't wait for updates.

I personally cannot wait for these two films to be released...then we will really see what Rob is capable of. Twilight brought him to the attention of a LOT of people but let's face it ...it wasn't the best work that we KNOW he is capable of. I will be so relieved when he has finished the Twilight stuff.
I loved him in 'The Haunted Airman' and 'Remember Me' so to ME I think he has great potential for someone who didn't go to drama school. His projects are always so interesting...

Petra Eller said...

Hey people. Something to smile
.I have read something interesting on the net today. (Yes I know it's crap, but it is funny)
Rob does not like boxer shorts, he may prefer tight-fitting white briefs. That was in Action - recordings pleasant. Because there's nothing dangling. He does not like it.

I do not say anything more.

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

♥ThePretty,

Rob in tight fitting briefs? Thank you for that image....I will go hide in the corner now....

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Sorry, ♥Rob, not ♥the pretty!

Haystackhair said...

rpattzgirl, is Unaccompanied Soul a stutterward too? I have that on my list but haven't started.

Loisada said...

Well HR.... if we're going to scrape the bottom this early ;) For a boy who doesn't like to dangle, he certainly goes commando a lot!

Perhaps it's an act of self-sacrifice just to please the ladies? Ah... why so selfless Rob!?

And now we have, in Rob's words, @ss crack pictures in store for us?@?

A N T I C I P A T I O N hardly covers it!

Loisada said...

BTW I'm feeling FF fail right now. None of my favorite authors update regularly. Oh so good but oh so frustrating...

Thank heaven for MoBS Wednesdays. Everyone should be reading this because HH can really write and you'll get a lovely and naughty weekly laugh.

Lizzibee: what the man lacks in formal training, he makes up for in excellent taste. Coupled with an eagerness to learn and the savvy to pick good projects with seasoned professionals, he should get better and better with every new movie that comes out.

Which makes me feel like a very, very lucky fan! (as long as we can hold our breathe until all the Twismack is over and behind him).

Haystackhair said...

Loisada, I'm with you. I die waiting for updates. Some take so long I think the story has been abandoned by the author. Thank God indeed for MoBS, at least I know that one updates regularly. I keep swearing no more WIPs, but I get sucked in every time. LOL

Ana73 said...

haystack - i say the same thing but like you said you sucked in by the rec's LOL. MOB's is really good about updating once a week and so is This is not my Life and Univ. of Edward Masen. This is Not My Life is really one of my fav's right now.

I know I will love the book.

I'm all kinds oif picky when it comes to reading and well I would have not read the book had not the info about the book not been instresing.

Tonite will be a very loooong nite.

Well I don't know if this list is from an important source or not, but I don't need anyone to tell me that those two movies are very anticipated.

As for me I can't wait for WFE, I love good intense/dramatic romances, and there aren't a lot of those around (because they only do stupid movies that are aimed at men 90% of the time). I'm SO glad that Robert is doing this movie that has great characters and romance story!! I SO can't wait!

As for Bel Ami, Robert's clothes and style is just too breathtaking, even if I don't really like the storyline. I will definitely be watching it but on dvd rental. And who knows perhaps Robert's portrayal will make me like it?

I hope that both movies turn out successful. And I hope that Robert will continue to choose great and appealing stories and characters to star in!

Hi girls.
I saw that you were talking fanfiction. I loved MotU. It was the first fanfiction I've ever read and it's still my number 1. I've been trying to find something similar and I was wandering if you guys know of any good one. I like a bit of dark Edward also.

Another one that I've really liked is The red line. The writing is really amazing, really graphic, but has some really dark parts and it's not for anybody.
I also recommend you The University of Edward Masen. Really god but not finished yet.
And for those who like comedies a really funny one is Bella Swan Kidnapper.

rpattzgirl survived Rob! said...

Haystack,
UA is not a stutterward...but very close....

I just finished reading Water for Elephants and I just adored the story. It probably helped that I was picturing the lovely Robert in the lead role, but even without that, it was one hell of a fun read.

Weird to thing of Rob as a "Jacob" though... Just sayin....

I can't wait to see the film. I wonder how Rob's enjoying working up close and personal with all of the circus animals...

OT for just a sec...

What is Shockya? Never heard of it. Is it something reputable or just another internet upstart? Just curious.

Back on Topic...

YAY! More Wallbanger on the way. Thanks Loisada. I'll be checking. BTW...

Did you see my post (somewhere around here. who the hell knows where) about hanging out with me and RPG and DF next Friday after the premiere? You're welcome to come play with us and join in our slumber party Friday night. Oh yeah. I was gonna send you an e-mail. I went to your profile and clicked on it but a window popped up telling me I wasn't connected to something? I hate this shit 'cause I don't understand it. Not connected to what? I'll figure out a way to track you down.

Okay. Back on topic. Yay Wallbanger. Hey wait. FF wasn't the topic. Shockya was. Oh who cares? Any time to talk about fic is a...good time.

nikola6 said...

tgill?

You still here? Want me to answer that RM question? It's not like this thread is on topic anymore. I'll wait a bit and see if you respond. I wasn't ignoring you. I just get distracted (shit. maybe I am a vampire. I don't sleep and I get distracted like a 2 yr. old). Lemme know.

tgill said...

@nik Yay we're actually on at the same time. I do want the questions answered and also why does internet chatter not translate to bums on seats? to listen to it RM should have been a massive hit

nikola6 said...

GOING OFF TOPIC! DON'T WANT TO READ? SCROLL ON BY

Okay tgill, here's my take.

No, the fact that RM did not pull in a 100 mil at the B.O. did not hurt Rob's career oneiota as far as TPTB in Hollywood are concerned. The hacks in the pop culture call it a failure because it didn't live up to Twilight's numbers. But they don't know shit from tar about the movie movie business. Very few (especially the public) knows the inner workings of this business and believe me, you don't wanna know. Best to keep the fantasy alive. Hollywood isn't called The Dream Factory for nothing.

To be honest, at first I worried that if it RM didn't hit that 100 million mark that it just might take some of the bloom off of his rose and that's because I forgot. I forgot that internet chatter does not necessarily translate into B.O and Hollywood knows it and that's why they don't pay much attention to it. Sorry. But they really don't give two shakes about what were talking about here. They only care about the money and they know that all of this does not translate into that. And where they figured this out was

"Snakes On A Plane" THE most talked about film on the internet and Hollywood was geared up for the 'film of the year' and then it came out and it...died. And that opened their eyes to the insignifigance of the internet. And nobody likes to hear this because were all talking on the internet about their stars and their productions and it's our hard earned dollar that keeps them in business and who wants to be dismissed as insignifigant? No one. But to Hollywood we are. Were just the uniformed, ignorant masses and all they want from us is our money. Yeah, they pay lip service to us, but that's all it is.

And why doesn't internet interest translate into B.O. office dollars? Because the internet is a series of bubbles. And when you're in your particular bubble, you think it's the entire world. And it ain't. People that are talking daily about something with their lives consumed by it? Most of the rest of the world could give a shit. But in the bubble , it doesn't feel that way.

Now Twilight is a different animal because two phenomenons collided. The first being, that the first film owed that UNEXPECTED opening weekend not to internet interest, but to those millions of books already sold. But then...the second phenomenon hit. Robert Pattinson and he is what is fueling the rest of this. And yeah, the Twilight bubble is an extrodinary one on the internet with hundreds and hundreds of blogs devoted to it.

nikola6 said...

Sorry. This new comp has such a hair trigger response that I don't even have to touch keys for something to happen. Almost done here...

nikola6 said...

For all of it's success there are more people in this world who haven't read these books or seen these films than have. But to listen to the pop culture (and were part of that here), the WHOLE WORLD is waiting in anticipation for Eclipse. No. It's not. Just this very big bubble is.

In fact, only a small percentage of the population even goes to the movies. Think about it. Right here in America we've got about 300 million people. And at conservatively 10 bucks a pop for a movie ticket, if only half the population went to see a Twilight film, it would rake in about 1.5 billion at the U.S. box office alone. And it doesn't do that, does it? That's about what the first two films have made thus far worldwide and with repeat business, that's not 150 million butts in 150 million seats. And when you consider that the world's population is about 2
billion, Twilight doesn't have that big an audience, does it?

IT'S ALL ABOUT PERCEPTION!

And this is what Hollywood and the pop culture are selling to the public...

PERCEPTION!

As for RM...
With it's budget (16 mil) and it's worldwide B.O. take (60 mil or so) and with them yet to sell a single DVD, this little film has done just fine. And it proved that Rob can sell tickets overseas for something that is non Twilight. And this is SIGNIFIGANT when gauging an actor's bankability. His career just is fine. And further proof?

Water For Elephants...

This is the BIG one. This one is going to go quite a ways in determining which way his career is going to go. A lot is riding on this one. This isn't a small independent on RM or BM or a sure thing like Twilight. This one is big time Hollywood leading man stuff; big production, top notch director, screenplay by one of the most prolific screenwriters working today and two A list Oscar winning co-stars. And Rob is the lead. Hollywood gave him this because they think he's ready to shoulder this kind of production.

And we shall see.

Did that answer your question? I think after those three long posts on the other thread and this one, I'm about to have an anyurism. Just kidding.

nikola6 said...

Sorry that first comment posted twice (that's all I need with a comment this long...for it to post twice). It's this damn computer. I swear it's on crack.

And I think I said BM referring to Bel Ami when I meant BA.

Nik... go back and hit the trash can under your 2nd post and it won't be there twice. If you go to my profile you should be able to email me... I had the link off for a while. Tech wary as well!

What is the budget for WFE? The market budget will also be MUCH bigger than RM... This one is looking for nominations and box office. And there's nothing controversial about it to stand in the way.

Big stars. ✓
Popular book. ✓
Love story with HEA. ✓
Class struggle where little guys win. ✓
Warm buddy relationship. ✓
Enticing villain who gets his due. ✓
Great costumes and scenery. ✓
Cuddly and scary animals. ✓
Song & dance & spectacular shows. ✓

And to boot, it stars Robert Pattinson!
If the director really knows what he's doing, WFE is bound for glory and big dough, exactly the way Hollywood loves its movies.

Great post Nik... I too thought RM did just fine. I have been watching the BO since RM came out closely and some of those other films that cost 45, 50, 100 ml plus didn't even make half of there money back. Case and point... Green Zone, A-Team and many other on that list.

I think our young fella is doing just fine and with each character plays, he is always different.

I know that I thoroughly ennjoy WFE and BA and I am looking forward to seeing him in them.
