I love the way Rob chooses his words to maximum comic effect. He very good at this. Russell Brand, love him or hate him, is someone else who uses vocabulary to comic effect, with varying results though.

I think that Rob's such a great role model, especially for young people. He never says anything that sounds cheap, even if he's being naughty - and he does have a wicked sense of humour. He's got people reading because of his film choices, his liking for literature and his obvious intelligence and his wonderful vocabulary - he often recommends books and unusual or obscure films too. I was so ready for someone like him to come along.

I was brought up on hollywood films by my mum and I remember the interviews and the racounteur style of David Niven and Peter Ustinov, real charmers, with anecdotes and wicked sharp wit, also very self deprecating. Rob seems to have this storytelling wit and style about him at a very young age (dad's emails on JL was a masterpiece!) and it can only get sharper. He's going to be legendary.

If we think Rob is big now, what is it going to be like in 2 years?

In two years time? With three more worlwide blockbusters under his belt? Not to mention -hopefully- some critical acclaim for his future non Twilight roles (BA, WFE)...

If he gets that critical acclaim and WFE delivers and pulls down those Oscar nominations, I don't think they'll be any doubt that he will be one of the biggest stars in the world (legitimately, apart from the Twilight mania) and that his career and future will be assured. And it's right within his reach.

I know that there's speculation going on right now as to whether he'll go the route of the teen idols before him and in a few years or so, just fade away. I suppose it's possible (anything is). But I don't see it happening this time. I think because the difference this time is that like with Depp and DiCaprio before him, even during their teen idol years, they had more than just teenagers in love with them. They had an adult female audience. And so does Rob. And I really think that is the difference.

Now the one who's really got to worry about this? Zak Effron. He's got to find that role that brings an adult female audience to him. And as famous as he already is, I fear that if it hasn't happened already...it might not. And that would be too bad because he's not without some talent. I don't think he's extrodinary in anyway, but he's a good looking boy and can deliver a line. Actually...he's too pretty, as the teen idols tend to be AND there's nothing darkly sensual about them. They're perfectly safe (sexually) which is why they become teen idols in the first place and why they fade away when their teenage audience grows up. You can't say that about Rob. The sex oozes out of every pore on this guy which is why, correct, adult females are responding.

And I do believe that is the key in all of this.

Movie stars (both the guys and the gals) become movie stars (not great actors, but MOVIE
STARS) for one reason...the rest of the world wants to sleep with them. It's that simple.

And how many women here (just here on this one blog) want to sleep with Rob? If it were possible? If no one in your life got hurt because of it? Even just one night in his arms? Walk away, no consequences. Apart from all our silly smutty talk around here, be honest...

Show of hands please...

Okay. Put your hands down.

Jesus. I can't sit here and count hands all day.

And THAT'S why he's gonna survive all this teen idol crap.

Because long after his teenage audience has grown up and moved on, the women will still be sitting there...wanting him.

2 + 2 = MOVIE STAR!!!

Holy mother of....I missed this!!! This was on this morning and hours later my Dad was like 'Oh, I think that Rob Patterson was on BBC this morning...'!!! For shame. But now I've seen it!
'I don't have genitals, so...' LOL!
Oh, how I love him and his ways! We have the same mind ^___^.

Rob is the master of the quotable quotes! Seriously: "I don't have genitals" That right up against "Glitter lube" and "I just love babies", "The type of sex where you end up killing the other person, the BEST type of sex" and of course, my fave "My Son". I could just listen to them for hours. I need a loop of those.

And that's why he finally has to embrace his looks.
And that's why, as I said the other day, he'd better forget about childen right now.

Nik ...

Absolutely - Rob's appeals does reach across all age groups, he isn't a teen sensation, although some people still think he is. Also WFE will reach a much wider audience who will be amazed with Rob if they've never taken him seriously before. It feels like WFE's going to be an epic like Gone with the Wind or Titanic - a HUGE film. What do you think the certificate for WFE will be?

Zac Efron is unlucky because the media keep up the comparisons to Rob. I saw him in a very young role and he was great, but he's not in Rob's league and his appeal isn't across all age groups as you say.

Nik,

About sex - I think this is evident from the sheer number of women, especially the 35 age group (which includes me) who have never really committed to following anyone famous before and are still reeling about the affect RP has had on them.

Busy busy women, who NEVER have time (particularly mature women with demanding jobs and/or family responsibilities) have made time for him, I certainly have. I got into Rob in November 2009 because I'd hardly noticed TV or films for a while because of some personal stuff. When I finally saw Twilight on the TV (out of curiosity for goodness sake!) he hit me like a tidal wave. The main kiss in Twilight, for me, was positively erotic. I wish it could affect me in the same way now, but I've seen it too many times!

I'm trying to think of megastars in this day and age who AREN'T sexy now ...... ummmm ....

I don't know. For some women, it will be about romance more than sex. My mum had all these crushes on actors and singers but they were SO innocent, if they were about sex, she didn't know it! One of them was about Fred Astaire - gulp!

MY HAND IS HELD HIGH, Nik!!!

I've had celebrity crushes over my lifetime...... but none have hit me as hard as Robert Fucking Pattinson.

I love his middle name! ; )

Several have said that Rob would just be glad for this to all be OVER - that scares me.

While I hope he does take a long break after BDI and II and reflects on everything and works on music and puts out a CD, I also hope he comes back to acting with even more sexy roles and hope he works on getting male fans too.

On that Leno clip with David Spade........the men in the audience groaned when he mentioned Twilight as so many men do - they are jealous of it.......like women are of football.....it takes their women away from them and sets a standard they cannot hope to attain in their wildest dreams - even though many try, God bless 'em.

So I hope Rob takes a break after BD but it might serve him better to keep cranking out great movies of many varieties to get wider audiences.

Who knows what he'll do - but it's sure fun finding out.

@Femroc
So men in the audience were groaning about Twilight - I didn't realise, I thought they were heckling David Spade! Twilight is obviously huge and really well promoted in the US. I don't think men would groan here in the UK at this stage, but it's not promoted in the same way - i.e. Rob's never does chat shows herem and he only comes on the TV snippets when he's promoting his films.

I'm NOT looking forward to the Jacob kiss... Bella hurting him and Edward was sick in the book and it looks like they are playing that up even MORE in the movie.

Love triangle? Really? I mean, Bella was never really torn between Jacob and Edward in the books. She hated hurting Jake because she never considered leaving Edward... but she hurt everyone anyway.
