EW Interview Teaser: Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson Address The 'Rape' Comment

EW Interview Teaser: Kristen Stewart & Robert Pattinson Address The 'Rape' Comment

Photobucket

Entertainment Weekly sat down with Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner for a feature interview running in this week’s magazine to discuss the world they inhabit within the Twilight universe, both on screen and off. In today’s preview, the stars open up about the glare of the media spotlight and how its intrusiveness recently led Stewart to compare it to rape — a comment she has since apologized for.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Do you feel more at peace about being in the spotlight these days?
KRISTEN STEWART: I just feel more comfortable, more myself, and I feel less bare. I feel much more like nobody can take anything from me. Before, I felt literally like my chest was cracked open and people could just reach in and examine and pick at anything they wanted, and it just freaked me right out.

You got a lot of criticism recently for comparing the intrusiveness of the paparazzi to rape. The comment got blown out of proportion very quickly, and you apologized.

STEWART: I’m so sensitive about stuff like that. That is the one subject that means a lot to me. I made one movie directly concerning it [2004's Speak], and I made another one where my character has a horrible history of rape [2010's Welcome to the Rileys]. I talked to a lot of people about it. I used the wrong word. I should have said “violated.” But I’m young and emotional. It’s just the way it goes sometimes. I probably shouldn’t say this, but I just feel like people got so excited once they saw that it was me. It was like, “Sweet! Let’s get her!” And then for the people to exploit it under the guise of being morally upstanding is disgusting — and it embarrassed me because I was a part of it.

Did you see it all unfold and then think, I have to issue an apology?
STEWART: No, I was in Korea when it all got bad. My publicist called me and said RAINN had issued this terrible statement.
ROBERT PATTINSON: Who’s Rain?
STEWART: You know, the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network.
PATTINSON: None of those associations came out and gave a statement [criticizing Kristen] without being called upon by the media first — who were doing it specifically to get hits on their websites. That whole system of Internet journalists, where no one is called to account, is almost entirely about hate. All these people get away with doing it because they have no responsibility to anyone. All they need is to get a salacious headline and people click on it, because it’s easy. And it’s quite good being part of these Twilight films because you have to give so many interviews all the time, you can defend yourself. That’s the only way. All of us stick together, as well. There are so many little nerds behind their computers, on their little blogs.
STEWART: See, if I said that? Crucifixion. You can say so much more than me. It’s insane.
PATTINSON: That’s not true at all. When did I say anything [controversial]?
STEWART: You’re really good, but you could say, “I just took a s***on the Queen’s face,” and people would be like, “Oh, I love him! I love him!” (Kate: LOL I think you could be right there Kristen ;-))

I hope everyone plays nice here. They have not been in the majority of places.

I think it was spot on from both of them. I really can't wait to read the whole article

hate to say it, but she is completely right

Kristen is so wrong to think that ppl go easy on Rob.
Dont you remember the vagina coment??? it was sillier and less big deal than the rape of hers and it made a lot of magazine covers.
But i wont say so much... i hate drama.

TheMissMod said...

@Steph maybe...but dangerous territory bringing The Queen into it, I know she was making a point and I agree, but maybe it shouldn't've been The Queen she used in the example? The media might have another field day with this one...*rolls eyes*

Belladonna said...

"little nerds... on little blogs" is so funny and Kristen is also so right,,, if she had said this she would be shredded, but Robert's words, no matter how raw get applauded.... All this is really so pathetic as none of this gossipy bullshit speaks to the great talents that both of these young artists have.

It is now so over the top and intrusive; every word, every gesture is analyzed and critiqued.

Looky Looky said...

Oooh! Liked those last few comments!

KS makes a valid point. I swear, sometimes women are their own worst enemies.

TheMissMod said...

@Belladonna, there's the irony though, she WILL get shredded now probably, just because she offered this as an example of something crazy Rob could say and people would still love him!

Caroline said...

K is totally right about wht she can or wht he can say...
And the difference "maaahtwi4ever"as she had to apolagize in public.. She not receive the same response for her mistakes...
And women are the worst enemy..it's sad but it's true...

Notice how Rob goes out of his way to defend Kristen. Now that is love.

TheMissMod said...

@maahtwi4ever - I agree with the Details interview comment, people all over were like 'Oh well really! Not Rob, not our King Of Hearts!' so it works both ways, I think.

Oh and i forget to say, would be so perfect and great if everyone had their own Rob?!

OMG I hope we don't have another row of argument about the Queen this time.

@Carol So totally down with you I want my own Rob to back up me all the time.

He sounds pissed too.

@TheMissMod of course go both ways, ANOBODY GO EASY on Rob!!! i already saw the hardest coments about him!!

and @Caroline babe, he had to discuss this Details coment ON TV, in front of his parents and the hole views!!
i dont remember the name of the program but it is with a bunch of older ladies

I couldn't agree more with Kristen when she says something negative everyone wants to criticize her for it. It's like just because she's a female she has to act a certain way and not say how she feels she was only giving an opinion to how she felt and people totally blew it out of proportion and if Rob would say something like that or close to it people would still love him or probably love him even more it's sad that it has to be like that but that's how it is.

SydneyAlice said...

Kristen's right, though. Rob never had to issue an apology over the vagina comment. People wait for her to say anything controversial just so that they can point their fingers and say, "See! She's an ungrateful bitch." Rob could literally say anything and he'd be forgiven and defended. I love them both equally, but it's a definite double standard.

Jazz_Girl317 said...

I completely agree with both Rob & Kristen here. Although, Rob's certainly felt the sting of his words coming back to haunt him. Anyone remember the Jenny Lumet interview and the uproar over the word he didn't really say?

Kristen is absolutely right that a LOT of people sit in wait for her to say something or do something they can completely color the wrong way.

I'm really proud of Rob for standing up for all of them, though clearly he was defending her for the most part. I'm betting it stung a little not to be able to defend her before this.

I do wish, just the tiniest bit, that Kristen hadn't brought up the double standard, or at least had done it in a bit of a different way. This kind of just reads like she's a little on the pissy side and I don't think that was her intention at all.

*rereads comment* Case in point, I supose.

TheMissMod said...

@JazzGirl Exactly.

Yeah, she's right that she gets picked on, but I don't agree that it's just her. The nerdy bloggers pick on Rob too. And what about Nikki Reed? They DESTROYED that poor teenaged girl. I have a daughter her age - I can't even imagine people treated my daughter the way those bloggers treated her. It makes my blood boil!

I think maybe Kristen is thinking about Twilight fan sites (they obviously love Rob) but the gossip guys? The Perez Hilton and Lainey types? They rag on Rob all the time and dissect what he says just as much as what Kristen says. And others in the Twilight spotlight have gotten the same nasty treatment.

As for the earlier posters who are getting all dreamy-eyed about Rob coming to Kristen's defense, I'm sure he is displaying some of that defensiveness on his own behalf as well. But yes, he apparently feels close to this issue. Good for him.

Cindygal said...

...I've to agree with K on this one!

PrettyBrownEyes said...

I'm glad she brought it up some people are one-sided about those types of situations and by her bringing it up she's letting people know that there is definitely a double-standard when it comes to the things that they say. It all goes back to the age-old debate about guys sleeping with as many women as they want to but they get a pat on the ass..but when a woman is [sexually liberated] she gets frowned upon and she is a whore so as much as I hate the double-standard it's definitely alive and well and it's not going anywhere.

WhyIstheRumAlwaysGone said...

They are both so true, honest and courageous. I love how they both analyze the situation, how clear-minded and calm they are, and I respect and love them all the more so.

jmm4832 said...

I completely agree with Kristen. It is true that Rob can pretty much say whatever he wants and he is ultimately praised. I think Kristen's very insightful and a straight shooter. I don't doubt that there will be backlash for her pointing out the double standard.

As for Perez Hilton, when has he ever criticized Rob? But he criticizes and belittles Kristen every damn chance he gets.

Cindygal said...

...@Jazz Girl ITA!! This shows that they also read stupid Ted & Perez Hilton blogs...I've stopped reading their comments section.

PrettyBrownEyes said...

@jmm
I was wondering that same thing I've never heard or [read] about him saying anything negative about Rob
but he loves to pick on Kristen.

jmm4832 said...

I just wanted to point out that Kristen could never say like Rob did that there are so many nerds out there on their computers with their little blogs. She would have been eaten alive but with Rob it will be quickly forgotten. Glad Rob stuck up for her and the others who get crucified in the press.

Jane said...

It scares me to think that we arent't going to have anything to talk about when the saga is over.

jmm4832 said...

Jane, oh yes we will. We can talk about Rob and his other movies. Unless Rob goes into hiding there will be more to come after the saga is over. Frankly, I'm more interested in Rob's other films than Twilight. It will not bother me all when Twilight ends.

TheMissMod said...

@Jane, we will, it just won't be Twi-related. We'll then be free to focus on Rob's non-Twi projects! Speaking of which, I am totally jealous that America got Remember Me on DVD already!

TheMissMod said...

@jmm LOL! Jinx got the wish!!!

PrettyBrownEyes said...

It will be kind of bittersweet when it all ends but I hope they can go on to focus on other projects, I'm sure they will do very well and probably get more privacy once all this is over
am I the only one that would like to see these two do other movies together besides twilight ??

TheMissMod said...

Whoa whoa whoa CC! I think you'll find he became famous because of the film industry types, not the bloggers - they just helped the fame continue by blogging away, be it good or bad press! Moron? Really? Rob seems like one smart cookie to me!

I am done.

Steph is Legit said...

i think she is right, but the thing about rob is the "controversial" comments he makes are just banter. there is a difference between saying "you're allergic to vaginas" and "i feel like im watching someone get raped" the latter is a pretty bold statement. while i do agree her comment was taken out of context i do feel like kristen makes older statements that get her in trouble.

Steph is Legit said...

and i think kristen also proved her point by saying rob can get away with so much. he pretty much insulted all of us and how many people too offense to it?

we all know what side of the fence im on when it comes to kristen, but when credit is due, it is due and this time i think kristen comment holds a lot of truth to it.

Its very clear to me that Rob was referring to gossip blogs such as Perez and his ilk. He even said as much when he talked about "internet journalists" printing "salacious headlines". His fan sites only report genuine news and certainly would never attempt to put a negative slant on anything, why would they?

He was talking about critics that hide behind their monitors spewing hate for no reason and usually, with very little to back up their rants.Kristen's comment was unfortunately phrased, I don't honestly believe she meant any harm and I think she was thrown to the sharks. I'm not a Kristen fan, to be honest I have no opinion on her one way or another. My feelings towards the girl are entirely neutral, but I think Rob was right. When I heard that the organisation had released a statement, well I thought that was a little much. She said a stupid thing which we all do from time to time. Rob was eaten alive for what he said in Details though so I don't think her idea about him being able to get away with anything is entirely solid. There are plenty out there who would happily throw him to the lions.

But I don't think his "little nerds" statement is anything to get excited about. He only spoke last week about his fansites and did so with good humour and kindness. He is clearly speaking about a different monster altogether here. Internet gossip blogs, which amount to the same thing as tabloids only with even less accountability and even further power to spread vicious lies.I hate them, I really do. I used to read them for amusement, not really thinking about what I read all that deeply. But then I discovered Rob and after a while it became very clear that a good percentage of what they post is crap, because when you know as much as we all do about a celebrity it becomes very clear when people are just making shit up and pot stirring to get hits on their site. Rob is a very private man and these sites use him day in day out to get hits, the best way to do this is often through controversial/untrue headlines.Fansites don't do this, they celebrate the goodness in him and only discuss that which they know to be true and very rarely get personal; this is, at least true of the blog owners themselves.Lets not twist his words as Perez would and make his statement out to be something it clearly wasn't. Rob knows the difference between us and them, we should recognise the difference as well and leave what he said in context.

dina said...

@steph When I first read it I was like ouch that hurts, but then I was like oh well this is Rob after all.

The good thing is that he got a bit carried away which is good because we could get a peep about who he really is behind the blah blah blah and ha ha ha.

I've been reading this post long time, I've never post a commet because english it's not my language and I feel a bit insecure writting but I have to comment this.
Double standard? Yeah probably but I really think Kristen had a part on that herself. Her body language in interviews and videos is terrible. I know she's shy but sometimes she seems very cocky. While Rob is always nice and sweet, smiling and joking she's sometimes like sour or very dry. And the photos flipping the finger at paparazzis don't help either. Probably it's just an impression and she's amazing but that really affect on how people perceive you. I know she's young and she had a lot of media pressure, but Rob had a lot more and his behaviour it's always correct.
BTW I think she's right this time.

Sorry for my english...

I'm actually happy that Rob went to her rescue on this. It's not about bashing her but the whole blowing everything out of proportion comment is too sensationalized. And even from the start of Twilight, Kristen has been heavily criticized about her acting and personal life and even her smile. She's just a very awkward person and putting a very shy and very awkward person in front of a bunch of paps is basically a field day for them.
She has automatic word vomit in these uncomfortable situations. She may be a public figure but she's a film actor...she has lines to follow and a script. I really wanted to post this on this other Rpattz site where they keep on bashing her but I don't want to be threatened by Kristen haters. I'm sorry but I agree on Kristen on this one and Rob can answer any question with a witty reply even if they pick on him about it, he can come out unscathed. Just my opinion.

nikola6 said...

No Chops...

Rob's standing in the industry and the roles they're rewarding him with have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the insanity of the uninformed, ignorant masses on the internet. Hollywood doesn't even think the internet is important enough to waste it's time in turning it's nose up at it and that's because they know that 99.9%of it is complete and total bullshit.

And I am so proud of him for pointing out the irresponsibility and unaccountability that goes on in this madhouse. Anybody (media, the public) can say any goddamn thing they want and just walk away.
Some call that free speech. I call it cowardly.

As for her getting slammed for that which he gets a pass on...

And why do you suppose that is? It's twofold; in our culture (and I don't care how liberated we are), men are still accorded a respect that females are not. They always have been and the always will be until...

Females stop acting like petty, jealous...females. What's going on with this girl (in the fandom) is as old as time itself. It is very simple and it's called Biology 101...

1. You have a male that all the females in the herd desire.

2. You have a female in that same herd that the male has singled out for his attention.

3. The rest of the females in the herd don't like that and so they stand off in a pack together and hiss and spit at her.

IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MALE!!! And has been since the very first fairy tale; Adam and Eve in that garden. From the moment of our creation we were made "for him." Go look it up.

And until females stop acting like jealous, petty females competing for the males, we will NEVER be accorded the same respect. In fact, the males laugh at us over such behavior. But I don't think the behavior will ever change because females will never stop being in competition with each other over the male.

Biology 101. And nothing NOTHING is or ever will be stronger than the biological imperitive. Which is all about? Correct. Reproduction. It's what drives male/female relationships.

Anyway. For those who wondered if he was pissed about this. He was. Trust me. And when he got the first chance to defend her, he did. And in very straight forward language (none of his usual 'deflective') that he rarely uses.

Bravo to both of them.

Steph is Legit said...

No, I understand he wasn't referring to us (or at least i hope not) my point was that people wouldn't bother giving kristen the benefit of the doubt (like we do, rob) if she made the same statement. We sit are and deconstruct and say that he's referring to perez and lainey, but do we really know that? if kristen made the statement she could be talking about that (perez, lainey) as well, but no one would bother to deconstruct her comment because they are too busy ripping her a new one. i just think she was trying to prove a point and rob was making a comment to all people who offend he and the people he surrounds themselves with. while it is offensive to some, it also shows how defensive he is to the people that really matter to him.

we all no i am no fan of kristen and i point that out because i am defending her, but its not so much defending her..its defending her point.

i dont take offense to rob's comment because i too make bold statements and am very opinionated. everything i say on here i have no issues saying in person.

nikola6 said...

Steph...

Rob was not insulting women with the 'vagina' comment. He said he was 'allergic' to them. And what does it mean when were alergic to something? Right. We are having a REACTION to it. And when a man is having a reaction to a vagina, what is happening to him? Right. He is having an erection...a REACTION!!!

It was the punchline to an old joke. Unfortunately, Lumet didn't set up the joke. I guess they both figured most of the reading population also possesses reading COMPREHENSION skills. Obviously, they were wrong.

Steph is Legit said...

at nik. i understand that comment referring to the vagina comment. my point was that it was taken out of context.

nikola6 said...

And Kristen Stewart is not the first famous person to use the word 'rape' to describe what it feels like to have your life taken from you by the ravages of fame.

That word's been used for years. However, in these politcally correct times in which free speech is being strangled -cause god forbid we offend anyone- she uses the word, and everyone shits their pants.

To quote a line from perhaps my favorite book of all time...

"This planet is fucking madhouse."

And that line was written over thirty years before the birth of the internet. I wonder how the author (who's long dead) would describe this planet today?

just me said...

I agree with Kristen to a point. I think Rob may get away with more but b/c he is so personable and charming. He has a very good way with people and is so well-mannered and considerate that he is just very likeable. He also laughs at himself a lot and that is endearing as well making him be more easily accepted. Kristen is very guarded and closed off. Maybe it is b/c she is shy, but body language and demeanor play a big role in how we are perceived. When seen in public, she does not come off as very friendly and seems almost sullen. That affects the way people act toward us. And Rob seems quite gifted in the ability to think quickly when asked questions. He would never say anything as crass and disrespectful as Kristen's example, I don't think. I doubt many of us could interview as well as Rob does. It is just not one of Kristen's talents and her own demeanor makes her not as likeable. And people naturally want to put other people down. It is not a good thing, but it is human nature for some reason.

anyone who has been here on a while knows how much i love that boy. i even offered to kick people's asses a couple of times for him. but the point that was made above me is true.

and due to the fact that i had personal issues with double standards before my love of rob... i agree absolutely. that shit ain't fair.

Rob was right on about the bad "journalists" that prey upon celebrities and politicians and anyone in public scrutiny. As long as we all use our own good brains to decipher what we read and hear and don't take everything so literal and so serious, we will all get along better. I am not particularly a Kristen fan, but when I read her statement, I knew what she meant and thought nothing of the comparison she made. We all struggle for the right word to express ourselves often.

TheMissMod said...

@Just me, Rob's shy too, it's just the way he was brought up that's made him so gracious - Thanks Mummy and Daddy P! We Brits are hellbent on etiquette and politeness so he's obviously very conscious of that, probably even more so being in the public eye.
If and when K embraces the whole scenario, maybe she'll loosen up and be a bit more approachable because it'll all seem too familiar then, so she'll be able to handle herself better and more eloquently.

nikola6 said...

Yeah Steph it was.

But if you'll recall, no women's groups got up in arms demanding an apology from Rob for it.

And did he ever apologize or defend that comment? I can't remember. Maybe he did. But it didn't make the national news like Kristen's did.

She is being held to a different standard than he is. As all females are to males. And she pointed that out here. And still...

Right here on this thread, she's still being criticized. And as long as she has HIS attention, she will always be criticized by a faction of this fandom.

And if they go they're seperate ways and he starts sleeping with another woman, watch and see if the attention around Kristen dies down and all of the attention diverts to the next contestant for his bed.

Remember when it was thought that he was sleeping with Nikki and all the criticism that she got at the time? Well. Where is that constant criticism for Ms. Reed today? It's
pretty much gone because no is suspecting her of sharing his bed tonight.

It's all about him. He's the point of light in all of this.

Steph is Legit said...

@just me's comment

i think that's another reason why we attack kristen. rob really is more personable and i think that affects our perception of him. if he came off as an arrogant a**hole i am sure people will still love him, but we wouldn't respect him. Kristen comes off as standoffish and always has. She has been improving, but its hard to like someone who always seems to be just a 'certain way'. i don't fault people who don't like her. her attitude is a big reason why i don't like her, but i think she is very opinionated (like myself) she wont take sh*t from anyone and its an admirable characteristic. in all if she wants people's pereptio of her to change then she needs to make some chnages herself. the gossip won't stop, but she will have more allies if she does.

my dad always told me this "you kill more bees with honey than vinegar"... i always thought you could still drown the bees either which way.. the point is to kill people will kindness. if people can't fault her then she can't be wrong.

@Steph, my point exactly. If she would learn to stop slumping under her hoodies and glaring suspiciously, she would be talked about more favorably. And being strong and unwilling to take anything off of anybody is not always a good quality. She needs to learn to take a breath, smile more, look people in the eye, stop acting like she is ready to turn and start punching everyone if they get too close and learn to shrug stuff off more, she would be more likable and a happier person. She chose this vocation that puts her in the public eye b/c her job is to entertain us. So look the audience in the eye all the time and smile. She is an actor so act like she likes people. I'm just sayin......

Steph is Legit said...

i dont think it matters whether you are a fan or not.. the fact is that she made a very valid point.

@theMiss I totally agree and our points are the same. I live in Texas and we are brought up to be polite and well mannered as well. Our children are taught to say, Yes, sir, No, sir, etc. KS has been in this business longer than Rob but she is younger than Rob. I think she needs to adapt some better coping skills. I know Rob is shy but he masks it so well and he just has a great demeanor with people, with his fans, the press, everyone. Yes, he was raised very well it seems and I am glad. I first noticed that when he is on talk shows and the hosts rudely interupt, he immediately stops talking and leans in to listen to their every word even if he was the one being treated rudely.

Rob must be a rock for Kristen if those comments are anything to go by - fantastic support and unity there and nice summing up of the shit that they have to put up with.

It is sad that Kristen felt forced to apologise but what was sadder was that no one paid attention to her issue about the paps, they just paid attention to the word "raped".

She probably will get shredded about the Queen because the media twist everything - you can see the headline already.

Hope she gets a lot of strength from Rob, but the double standard must niggle her, I can sympathise.

Steph is Legit said...

i don't follow lainey and i used to like perez hilton until he got too malicious for me. he just makes digs at kristen for no reason sometimes and says stuff about her having rabbit teeth. to me, thats to mean to say on a website. its one thing to think it, but to publicly humiliate her like that? to me it wasnt right.

as for lainey, maybe she really doesn't like rob and makes jabs at him the same way perez does. i dont know cuz i dont follow her, but maybe she treats rob the way we treat kristen? i know im a little biased when it comes to rob.. maybe she has a bias for kristen? either way.. ppl (myself included) are going to look for little confirmation biases to prove our own points.

just me said...

@Steph, she did make a point but in this case I think it is not gender prejudice so much. I think it is a matter of their personalities being so different and their differences in expressing themselves and coping with things. Rob's ability to laugh and make fun of himself makes it easier for people to think favorably of him and not take him so seriously. Kristen comes off too tense and like she has her fists ready to fight all the time. It may be just shyness but she comes off angry and unfriendly when in public and that will make people react to her in a negative way. I hope she gets a handle on that soon for her own sake. I feel bad for her.

The public has to stop CONSUMING them. But they won't because this public is VERY hungry when it comes to their OBJECTS of desire. It's like their lives have become these reality tv shows being played out for OUR entertainment. And of course we get to sit in judgement of it all. Too bad there isn't a way for the public to vote on a daily basis on just how it is that Rob and Kristen are conducting their lives. 'Cause you can bet such polls would receive millions of hits a day.

I used this analogy once before...

The media are the Romans.
The public are the lions.
And the Robs and Kristens of the world are the Christians.

And the media/Romans are throwing the Christians/them to the lions/US and we are DEVOURING them.

The ONLY difference is...
In ancient times everyone sat in arena to watch the spectacle.

And in the 21st century? We sit at computer screens and watch...the spectacle.

Same thing.

Oh. And now with Twiddle...we too can be the Romans. Were multi tasking. Oh how 21st century. We can create the shit ourselves and eat it too.

Fucking madhouse...

Acting is a career choice, but all-encompassing, worldwide fame came without warning to all these kids, and I think they handle it amazingly well.

It can't be easy, but it can be fun without all the unnecessary hate.

I think no matter what Kristen did, if she 'stopped slumping' or glaring or whatever people find fault with; even if she started speaking with fluent coherency and lovely sweet smiles; even if she appeared self-confident and cooperative wth pappz; even if she started singing the 'good ship lollypop' and stopped smoking and started saving the whales and baby seals; no matter what, people will misjudge her, judge her harshly, hate her, and G-d forbid threaten her, because she is adored by and attached to Rob--no matter what that adoration and attachment is;whether best buds, or brother-sister, or soulmates for eternity-- it is there, and people are jealous, and some are just plain hateful.

Oh. This is just bullshit.

If she would learn to not slouch. Or if she wouldn't be so awkward or would smile more. Or be more friendly or be more more more more more. She is herself. She doesn't pretend to be something in order to get the approval of those who think they've got the right to pass such petty judgements on her.

He slouches. He can be awkward. He's put his foot in his mouth more times than I can remember.

How about that time he told that woman waiting for an autograph to take her clothes off? Or the time he said he got 12 year old virgins to lick his hair. Where were the
'sexist' criticisms for him with those comments? Why weren't mothers OUTRAGED that he would make such a suggestive comment about minor girls?

He gets a pass. He's the male in the herd that all the females desire. That's why.

She gets slammed for months for that mullet (and it wasn't even her choice, it was for a film role) and he shows up with hair that looks like it hasn't seen a comb in weeks and we label it "sex hair."

Her clothing choices get critcized and he shows up in second hand rags and he's called "hobolicious."

She's awkward and is criticized for it. He's awkward and he's called "endearing."

Everytime one of you nit pick at her for that which you do not nit pick at him, you make the point over and over about female competitiveness.

And I don't even think a lot of you even realize that you're doing it. You're rationalizing it away.

And humans are good at that.

Rationalizations.

How dare she.

As I said once before...

I'd like to see some of you walk around in her shoes for just six months. And then come back here and tell us what the experience was like.

It's so easy to sit there in your privacy and your anonymity and with your freedoms passing judgement on someone who's had her's taken from her.

How dare she say a word.

God. What do you suppose this fandom would do to her if she even exhibited a 10th of the behavior of Brittney Spears, or Lindsey Lohan, or a Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian with their sex tapes and famewhore like ways.

Where is the scandal in this girl's life that might be worthy of some criticsm? Some judgement? All this girl does is do her job and go home. And that's just not good enough for some of you.

She is not required to entertain us with her OWN life.

Another clue?

They're lives ain't no reality tv show. They're lives are theirs. Just as yours is yours. And mine is mine.

Is your life strictly about your work? Or do you step away from your job at the end of the day to live the other part of your life?

Same thing with them.

So why don't we learn a little grace and let them?

Nik: Amen to your comments!

Being an old time feminist, I can share something I have learned about our sex. We have done it to ourselves...men have not found it necessary to greatly put us down...we women very much have done it to ourselves! We raise all those little boys. Women are the worst enemies of women! We demand equality and then proceed to dress to sexually demand attention. We compete to get the attention of the alpha male, clawing and tearing at each other. Kristen is correct. If she does it, it's horrible, if he does it, it's charming!

vafla89 said...

People are biased. No matter what Kristen (and other people as well) says, she will be judged. When people don't like someone they judge every single detail about them -clothes, attitude, personality etc.

Fortunatelly, Kristen seems to come to realise that she can't please everyone and she starts feeling more comfortable about what she says now! Good for her! She is true to herself and as long as she keeps being this way (which I'm sure she will) I'll keep be a real fan of hers!

"Without THEM there is no HER. Unfortunately that tiresomely ubiquitous celebrity sense of entitlement has also infected Kristen Stewart. Because in real life there are sh-tty parts that come with a job. Like say data entry. Or cleaning a toilet. Or lifting heavy boxes and tearing away at your back muscles. Or travelling so much you don’t get to see your family. Some people have to endure the horrible and unpleasant job duties because they have no choice. Kristen Stewart however chose to be an actor because she loves her job. And in doing so appears to expect that being an actor means that her job, unlike our jobs, should never come with a downside. Her job’s downside happens to be that people want to look at her picture. Her job’s upside is that she might get to work with really great artists and learn from them, and sometimes not work at all, for like 3 or 4 months at a time, and go on luxe holidays, and not worry about not having a college education to build for a future, and have the time for hours upon hours to read and learn and grow as a person.

Stewart is the headlining star of a major bubblegum franchise that actively engages the online community to secure and expand its fanbase. She has her own goddamn action figure. She’s dating her co-star. It’s more than a little self-indulgent then to compare the perhaps irritating itch of the paps in her face to being the victim of a sexual assault, wouldn’t you say? "

If this it's no allowed please delete the message o say it and I'll delete myself....

@Nik
My point was, entertainers rely on the public for their income. When they are out in public doing every day things and are spotted, if they show likeable traits in the private sector, they are more liked and will make the public more eager to see their next project whatever it is.
Example, Last Comic Standing is a reality show for stand up comedians. I love standup comedy. But when we see them "at home" with one another and they act all mean and rude to one another, makes them less funny, less desirable to watch. Then they lose fans and their careers suffer. If she could learn to shrug it off more, smile in public and be friendlier, it would help her, I think. Plus it might even make it easier for her to take the next time. I think she may be more able to pull that off than me b/c she is a trained actor. I work for a surgeon and we get lots of demanding and pushy people in here. But for the sake of my job, I smile, pat them, pretend to be understanding sometimes, and go along with them. See my point here?
And if I were to have to do public interviews, I would have my foot in my mouth the entire time, I am sure of it.
And the double standard does definitley exist. The hobolicious term cracked me up. I always thought, if my son tried to leave the house and go out in public like that, I would have a fit. But he laughs at himself so I laugh with him and let him be. They are who they are. And that is fine with me.

I like both Rob and Kristen mainly because they are real people. Neither of them pretend to be something they are not. That is probably one reason they are attracted to one another living as they do in such a plastic environment. Rob just seems to be one of those sunny people that others like while Kristen is more difficult. But, hey, that's OK. How dull would it be if we were all the same? Yck. And, yes, it probably is the coveted male choosing a female, any female, that causes the problem.

I'm not sure I understood what you meant about deleting comments. I don't think anyone has to delete anything as were simply expressing opinions here.

Yeah, I can get a little hot headed about this because I have friends who have had to deal with fame and I have seen up close and personal what it can do to a life. Most people have not a CLUE! They just have a keyboard and an uninformed opinion. It's true.

And I'm not deleting a single word I said because I stand by my words. I wouldn't say them if I didn't.

And something else to think about...

Rob and Kristen never sought this LEVEL of fame. Look at their body of work before Twilight; with the exception of Panic Room and Goblet Of Fire (when they were first getting started), their work has been very low key and neither of them sought the spotlight by dating other famous people or getting up to mischief and even with Twilight...they had no idea of the lion's mouth they were stepping into with this.

I think this girl is guilty of two crimes...

1. she doesn't know how to be famous
2. she finally gave in to her feelings for Robert Pattinson and became his lover.

Every wonder why she hesitated when the attraction was there between them from the getgo? Ya think maybe she KNEW what this fandom would do to her if she mated up with him? Ya think she knew what they did to Nikki when is was assumed that she was sharing his bed at one time?

Imagine that. Because of this insane fandom, perhaps these two lost a year together and the unhappiness and fear that he might have experienced wondering if she ever would come to him because of it.

I just thought of that.

It's a wonder these two acknowledge this fandom with any kindness or grace. And they do. But as I said the other day...

You wait and see. Once they're out from under this oppresive situation where they cannot express their true feelings, where they have to toe the company line, they're going to come clean about what this whole experience was truly like for them. And it ain't gonna be pretty and the fans will them call them both ungrateful.

Yeah. I think someday a lot in this fandom are gonna get their eyes yanked WIDE OPEN!

And I can't wait.

It's a mans world and we are just living in it. I didn't take Kristen word to mean anything than... she can't have a private moment, even smoking a cig on her balcony. Someone is photographing that. It's damn invasive. When in interview, she tense up because you never know what ppl will asked. It's seem that even when they are suppose to asked certain questions, they go over the line and ask anyway.

@Nic, Rob didn't really say sorry... but, he did explain. God help me... but I watched most entertainment show just to watch his interviews. He said that... "He thought ppl would be offended by the photos, so he make little jokie things and instead they are offended by the joke. He learned not to give interviews or make jokes about Vaginas, becuase ppl are sensitive about them."

I am not offended by what he said... I believe he's was talking about internet journalist. They were the ones who took his comments and made a big thing of it.

In Kristen's place... I would tense up too... in a crowd of 100 I break out in hive... let alone all those ppl coming at her and you have to watch your ps and qs... and since I like them both, I tend give them alot of slack. How many actor out there get in fights with pappz and their behavior with them.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi Loreth:

The headlines were focussed on her word which drew people in to read the article in the first place.

Many people think that actors should accept the price of their fame whatever the price is, but R&K have said hundreds of times that they never expected the Twilight Saga to be a phenomenon but it's happened now and they can't lead normal lives. R&K aren't the Kashardians or Katie Price (who court that kind of fame) they have integrity and unfortunately not everyone sees that.

nikola6 said...

Agree Monique...

Imagine having every word, every gesture, every everything analyzed, scrutinzed, disected and most of all JUDGED by those who haven't got the first goddam clue as to what it is they're even talking about?

And what gets me, is that people think they've got the RIGHT to do it in the first place.

I've read the Bill Of Rights and nope...I just don't think this one is in there.

However, we (ALL OF US...even the movie stars) do have rights to privacy and life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. That is in there.

So why is that some think they have the right to strip others of their's while they are in pursuit of their life, liberty and pursuit of happiness...such as who they choose to love and what they choose to do for a living? Like say...be an actor and fall in love with your co-star?

Can someone answer that question for me?

I'm listening and I'm teachable. Tell me where I'm wrong here and I'll jump the fence.

In other words...I will stop being a hungry lion and I will learn to read a menu and see if just possibly there might not be another entree that on occasion I might also enjoy and maybe every so often I could save them for the appetizer or even dessert. Reading all these comments I agree with the general opinion about women and men and the double agenda. Every woman who works for a long time has experienced differences in the way they are treated in comparison to the male colleagues and women indeed are often their worst ennemies. So far I agree with you all.

But, what concerns Kristen and Rob, I don't agree with her.
Yes, in live interviews he can say what he wants because he's so charming and everybody can see his good intentions or his sense of humour. But he has learned that written interviews doesn't translate always as good as he wants.

In the Details interview his most risky comment wasn't the vagina joke, but the negro thing. I read a lot of reactions and many of them were very offensive towards him. Luckily for Rob he had some rabid fans who defended him again and again and even then many wouldn't even try to understand.

The only reason that this didn't get bigger and resulted probably in a public apologize from his part is the fact that the interviewer (Jenny Lumet) was black (is this the right word, because it becomes difficult to know which word is acceptable) AND.. the granddaughter of Lena Horne. If this wasn't the case I'm sure they would have crucified him.

And Evangeline is right: Rob gets many hate comments on many sites, I think even more than Kristen because she has her fans as well as Rob and some gossip journalists are pro Kristen and contra Rob.
You know why? I can only imagine a similar reason as Nik told about Biology 101.

How does a man or a guy feels when:
a) he's single, trying to please the girl but not knowing how and than has to see how a humble, shy, witty guy gets the attention of millions of women all over the world
b) he has a girl or even a wife who drools about this movie star, talks about him and his sexyness looks at pictures of him or his character as he is the perfect one (which he in fact is lol).
Doesn't this take their sense of self-respect away a bit? You bet it does and that's the reason that like 80-90% of the guys don't like Rob and they show it everywhere they can in really nasty comments.

How hasn't his 'acting abilities' become a subject of cynicisme and mockery, more than Kristen's? How many men (and reviewers) didn't take the opportunity to bash Rob when Remember me came out?

Until Rob I didn't realize that men can be very rivalrous and jealous to each other, just as women do and that they, just as women, try to destruct the one who is a threat.

I think Rob was partly refering to them too when he spoke about the 'nerds'.

What I really liked was Rob and Kristen discussing this subject to EW. EW published everything about Twilight and the actors in the beginning of the phenomenon, was almost the spoke person everything Twilight related.
Then, I don't know why (perhaps they got critics for oversaturation) they changed their attitude. The last few months or mayby longer, they try to get hits, but more because of the condescending tone they use, writing about the Saga and especially about Rob. So the haters get the chance to spew their hate and the pro's will defend. Conclusion: several hundreds of comments. I found this very hypocritical of EW and so Rob was brilliant in his reacton. He's very aware of these manipulations and now he had the chance to say it out loud.

So, as much as I respect Kristen as a person and as an actress, I think she had to put herself on the same side as him instead of confront him with his 'lack of critic'. She knows better.

Anonymous said...

If the media have a field day with the Queen comment, I will be in hysterics, or possibly be crying, because it's all fuss over nothing. Rob here was venting, make a fuss over him. He's the hottest guy in the world, so make a fuss over his venting. We love a man who vents.

I think it was sweet he defended her.

And Rob will have no hate whatsoever, or issues that arise. "have sex with a baby", does anyone find an adult or a teenager having sex with a baby hilarious? But of course with Rob saying that, he got no shit for it. I may be a fan of Rob, but double standards, which is exactly what it is. And you can say, he'll get hate for the things he says. No he won't. What he says will receive comments like "oh bless him he's a goof".

"have sex with a baby", come on Rob. Not cool.

We can all say we feel sorry for Kristen, and it shouldn't be that way. But no one will change the ways of the world, or this fandom even. Everything is talk: nothing gets done; people say if Rob says anything bad he'll get stick for it, I don't think so somehow. Because at the end of the day, he's a goof and hot, and that is what everyone will say. And don't say you won't, because you're waiting for the day for him to say something, which when he does, it'll be overlooked. He won't be issuing apologies, or held grudges against.

I say, Rob isn't a hobo. He needs to learn how to dress properly. Putting hands through hair and everywhere, isn't sexy, it's disgusting and rude and awkward. Rob hasn't been smiling for the paparazzi, HE NEEDS TO DIE, NOT ALLOWED. He must be polite in every single situation. Don't like what I'm saying, people who suggest Kristen is all that, well you're saying the same thing about Rob. So you call him a hobo and Kristen disgusting...Which one is it? He's either a hobo or disgusting like Kristen.

Sense made.

Kristen was right when she inferred that these people don't give a horse's a** about the rape of women. It was all about criticizing Kristen. And the RAINN's response was over the top. Pretty soon there will be no interviews because people will be afraid to express themselves for fear of offending some judgmental holier than thou person. It truly makes me sick.

You mentioned something that I have wondered about for quite some time now but never dared mention because I don't want to offend anyone with my curiousity...

Women involved with other men (as wives, live ins or girlfriends) and how those men are dealing with the 'affair of the heart' that their women are having with Robert Pattinson.

How would the women handle it if it were in reverse? If lets say Scarlett Johannson were this worldwide phenomenon with men traveling all over to see her, to cat call or whistle (the equivalent of the scream I imagine) when she shows up, to watch her movies at any opportunity, to collect every picture, every vid, every snippet of information on her, to have her picture up their home, to wear t shirts with her image on them, to have little Barbie dolls of her, to spend who knows how much time everyday on the internet with other men who are equally oppessed talking about her for hours and hours.

How would women handle such a situation?

Or is this acceptable because women are not seen as predatory in the way that men are, meaning, a woman's obsession over a man is seen as crazy, but a man's obsession over a woman is seen as dangerous (because he is the sexual aggressor by nature). Hmmm...this sounds like a bit of the old double standard in reverse.

Am I on the right track here?

But the question...

How would women handle this?

Ioreth said...

@nik I'll try to explain myself..
First, the delete thing was a consideration for the blog, there are sites where it's not allowed to post comments from other websites, I was C&P that's why I asked if it was ok...

Second, I work on the media, I know a little what I'm talking about and how the press works.

Third, I have my personal opinion on the Nikki affair :) But no one really knows what happens, we can expeculate all that we want but no one knows... I find really curious that since Rob and Kris are together any of both it's hanging out with her like they did before...

Four, Yes, they didn't know things are gonna be wild with the movies. That's pretty obvious. They aren't searching that kind of attention, right, but to think people, media or fans aren't gonna be interested in what they do or who they date it's just naive.
They deserve privacity. Of course. They shouldn't be hunted that way, or excrutinized at that level. True. To think it's not gonna happens the way the media and internet are this days it's living on denial. Shouln't be but it's the way it's. How they managed it's their choice, and with that choices comes their consequences.

And Five, I'm not a teenager, I'm not in the twilight fanbase, I don't like the books, well I don't even like Edward as a character. I couldn't care lees about the truth of their feelings towards the franchise coming out...

That was adorable and I so loved Rob's reaction. You can bet your ass that after 15 hours with the NB's he'd be coming back for more. But...

I don't think this is the thread for it. I know you're trying to divert the conversation away from this topic and I hope it works, but I don't think it's gonna.

Copy and save that post and paste it into the thread when we start to get feedback from the NB's before, during and after the premiere. It was so too cute what you wrote and I don't want to see it lost and wasted here.

Just a suggestion. And I hope I'm wrong. I hope it does divert the thread.

BTW...does anyone know when this issue of EW comes out? Is this next week's issue (makes sense with Eclipse opening next week), but will be on newstands this Friday?

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Frye?

'little nerds on little blogs':
I agree with Rob in context because I know where he's coming from, but there are some beautiful, and tiny blogs put out by people with way more important things to say than we do here, or than do the self-important online bloggers Rob is talking about.

Also, if you were an academic writing an article about social issues and 'important things', you might very well compare things like humanity's treatment of nature 'rape'. Indeed it has been said many times. Doesn't anyone get metaphor anymore? How dumb is everyone to fall into the trap of calling Kristen out for this? Many, many things are violations and have been metaphorically called rape. Why? Because rape is one of the most heinous crimes and to make a comparison like that is ususally to show how bad the compared behaviour is--in this case the paps behaviour, which is out and out violence.

So, I very much agree with Kristen's first statement. The paparazzi DO rape them--metaphorically but really--when they intrude on their personal lives the way they have. It is disgusting and we've had many discussions about it right here.

I haven't read this thread yet so I don't know how deep into the fray you all are, so I might be repeating what others have said already.

@Beanie

You got that right. I read a lot of magazines and blogs about movies. Like thirty more or less. Part of this it's my work, it's incredible the level of hate for Rob. Incredible. Men just hate him. They say is ugly, dirty, stupid... The critics bash on him at every oportunity they had. No one seems to note this either.. Yeah Kris it's attacked but Rob it's too...

jessegirl said...

Yes, Benny, I noticed how Rob defended Kristen, which he would have done whether or not they're hooking up. He knows how vicious the paps and bloggers and assorted other commentators with nothing better to do behave. He also knows how stupid and gullible much of the public is. He has experienced it too. So, the Twilight gang sticks together. And a good thing too.

jessegirl said...

SydneyAlice...Yeah, despite my last comment, I agree. I think there is a double standard which is raping her--metaphorically, you understand (I say sarcastically)--just as much as the paps do. And you can blame some fans for that. When fandom gets ugly.

See, here I disagree. She's f*cking right. Exactly this kind of second-guessing of everything she says, even when she' right, guarding her words, is why she told Oprah she was scard to talk.
Kristen is a breath of fresh air in the shithouse of Hollywood. If she has to be inhibited all the time, we'll see a cardboard version of her. How sad.
We've all bemoaned that ever happening to Rob. Please extend the same kindness to Kristen.

You don't have to explain yourself to me or to anyone. This is a public blog and you've got just as much say here as anyone else.

This is a very HOT BUTTON issue for me as I am somewhat connected in the industry but only because I was raised in it. I've seen up close and personal how dazzling and distorting fame can be to a person's life. It's not the money or the power these people acheive. It's the fame that is the single most destructive element of stardom. It is the destroyer of lives. I've been in the same room as fame and watched it devour and destroy with my own two eyes. Fame is like a fire. It consumes. It destroys.

And I fear that with two years to go with all of this madness, that these two are not out the woods with thing. They are still subject to self destruction because of all of this. Two years is plenty of time to see their relationship destroyed because of it and who knows how the aftermath of something like that might impact their lives and their mental well being. And I just don't wanna find out. Yanno? I want all of this racheted down just a mite. Just enough that they can carry on their lives with a just a smidgen of their dignity intact. And I don't cotton to...

'well that's just the way it is'.

Slavery used to be 'that's just the way it is'.

Back alley abortions used to be 'that's just the way it is'.

We can change society any way we want. We've been doing so since humans first organized themselves into societies. And we can change this pop culture and the devouring of lives. But the public has to do it. They only feed us what were hungry for. We curb our appetites and they won't fill our plates as full.

But I'm calming down here. I always do. When these particular discussions get started, I start twirling and repeating myself over and over in the hopes that someone will hear me. But very few do. People believe what they want to to believe and refuse to be educated because they think there's nothing to educate them too. And so...

I twirl and then I walk away. No hard feelings. Well. Sometimes...a few. But nothing I lose sleep over.

It's all good.

Okay. Most of it's horseshit. But whadda ya gonna do? LOL!

When, when, when are women going to be treated with the respect they deserve by both sexes.

No understands metaphor anymore. They don't get subtlety, reasoning, analysis, subtext or irony either.

Reading COMPREHENSION is way down and the test scores prove it. Not that people cannot read, but that they cannot understand what it is they are reading. They take everything at FACE VALUE. Because that is the EASIEST way to take something. No effort in easy. And we are living in a time when we are looking for the easiest, the simplist, most CONVIENENT route.

And I chalk it up to 50 plus years of television and or course, the advent of technology, especially the technology that is placed DIRECTLY in our hands in which everything is coming at us with lightning speed and there's no time to absorb or analyze what it is before the next shiny subject diverts our attention yet again.

It's changed the way our brains think and comprehend.

It's changing us; socialogically, emotionally, intellectually and it's happening so fast, that we can't see it. We can't see the changes.

Which is why I do not trust it. I never have and I never will.

That's a little bit demagogic and you know it's true :) I wasn't defending a position, I was constating a fact.

I find also very hypocrite to complain about how bad the media are, how evil they are with them, and five seconds later, go on the web to search the last foto, video, gossip or whatever about Rob. I'm not talking about you here, I'm talking in general. It's like you write they feed us, an then we bite the hand who is feeding us. And no, this not a defense of papparazzi it's more a critic toward us as a consumers.

An for those two, well, sometimes they play with the media too. It's both ways. The right solution will be to find a balance, but I don't think that's possible right now. They are in the middle of the eye-storm, maybe when the saga it's over things will be different and a lot less stressful...

Hmmm...this sounds like a bit of the old double standard in reverse."

No, the thread is chugging along as it is, no derailing me now.

It's not a reverse, Nik, it is just the same, bloody double standard it ever was.

Women get dismissed all the time, invalidated, on the basis of being called crrrazy. Things like PMS, pregnancy, post-partum blues, menopause, you name it, all are used to invalidate and dismiss women. Don't listen to them because their female hormones are speaking and arent' reasonable, like men are (sarcasm).

In fact, there' not a time in any woman's life when she can't be invalidated because of supposed irrationality caused by female hormones. That is what is sexist.

Meanwhile, you don't think men are irrational because of THEIR hormones? Their maleness? Oh yes indeed they are.

But they, and too many stupid, colluding women too, dismiss women as a matter of course, grabbing at the old PMS or menopause reason, as if it actuallly meant something.
Women are not their own worst enemies. Men still are.

Men do not stand up for us. They want us to be invalidated. They want the power of authority that being listened to brings.

Even here, what's with all the carping about Kristen?

No, Nik, this is plain sexism again. I said, in a blog about RM, that it was sexism driving the dismissal of RM, because it was females who loved Rob who were perceived to be the fans there. Males, and male-wannabees, can't stand the idea that females had the box office clout to drive and create a whole f*cking franchise like Twilight and so they were determined to diss its star. RM was crucified---hah, crucify me for using this word--in the fallout.

Yes but the media is good and bad, not just one huge monstrosity. We get fed with the good media but we're smart enough to smack the bad one. I'm not saying this well at all--hubby wants machine--but it's much more complicated than one mass of consumers relating to one conglomerate media. We need to start discriminating and discerning differences here. But not here here because this blog is not the place for such fine-tuning.

I had to stop reading these comments after a while because it was making my head hurt.

There is a HUGE difference between Rob's "Vagina Alergy" comment and reactions and Kristen's "Rape" comment and reactions. They are nowhere near the same thing. Like many of Rob's humerous comments, it did end up haunting him afterwards, but it was just people kind of scratching their heads and saying, "WTF?" People weren't MAD about it. Some people practically wanted to lynch Kristen over the rape comment. The only thing the two things have in common is something that celebrities run into constantly, having a comment quoted in print and out of context and having their intentions confused as a result. One of the reasons why you can't believe anything you read.

Anyone who is actually offended by Kristen's comment about the Queen should be required to have a lobotomy.

Kristen is 100% right in her comment that people react more to things just because SHE said them. Seriously think about some of the things she's been criticized about and think if you would have felt the same about them if it had been a story you read on this website and Rob was the one saying them. Think of things that Rob has said and imagine if it had been Kristen to say them. Something as simple as the fact that he hasn't read Breaking Dawn for example. I guarantee you "The Fandom" would have lost their minds if Kristen showed that kind of indifference towards the books. We were surprised to hear Rob hadn't read it, but I haven't seen anyone turn against him for it.

I'm honestly disappointed that so many of Rob's fans show such distain towards Kristen, mostly for silly reasons. Whatever their relationship is, they seem to be very similar people, and he seems to be happy when he's with her. Whatever her faults may be, at least Kristen is herself and not some fame whore who wants to use Rob to further her career. Honestly, it could be so much worse. Think about how much it would suck to have to see some blond tanned fake boobed bimbo on Rob's arm all the time. If him and Kristen are together, it's in spite of the fact that he's a huge star, not because of it. Personally that's all I can ask for him.

I went back and read a few more of the comments here, and I just wanted to commend the people who aren't fans of Kristen for being able to put aside their personal feelings about her long enough to acknowledge that she's justified in her comments in this article. Good on you.

Also Perez Hilton's vendetta against Kristen is disgusting and sad. The guy is obsessed with her, any excuse to put her down he jumps upon. When she isn't giving him amunition herself he'll take comments from Rob and twist them in order to get a dig in at her (Rob saying he was allergic to vagina, Rob saying he wanted to go on more dates, etc). When he's not doing that he just graps at straws and completely makes stuff up (like his new sad little hobby of saying she's a lesbian). Kristen is the very essence of the anti-Perez celebrity. She isn't going to kiss the medias ass or be a fake barbie doll and in spite of that, she's sucessful. He can't stand that. He's an insecure sad man who thinks he has some kind of power over the entertainment industry and that everyone should kiss his ass for fear of getting on his bad side. So when Kristen Stewart gives the paps the finger in Australia he's going to rip her apart for it, but when Lady GaGa is criticized for doing the exact same thing he runs to her defense and says "Oh she's just being a New Yorker". I find it terribly pathetic that so many people follow him like sheep and allow him to influence how they feel about certain celebrities rather than being able to form an opinion themselves. It's a bunch of mindless insecure sheep being led by a bitter, superficial, juvenille man.

Honestly one of my favorite things about the fact that Rob and Kristen are surely together is the fact that it obviously drives Perez Hilton insane. A man whose only achievments are becoming famous by ripping off Paris Hilton's name and posting a blog about other peoples private lives because he doesn't have a life of his own.

I seem to have open the flood gates today, so I'm going to go on about something else that drives me insane.

I hate hate hate when people judge Kristen for the many reasons she is judged and then say, "She is so ungrateful. If she doesn't like it she should get out of show business, she knew what she was getting into."

No, I don't think she knew what she was getting into. I don't think anyone outside of Rob, Kristen, and Taylor understand what they have to go through. Not even the Beatles. Certainly not someone like Perez Hilton. Yes anyone who wants to be a star knows that they will be scrutinized by the public, obviously. But the amount of attention that the industry, the media, and the public have put onto those 3 people is unlike anything else that I can think of.

You guys have to be aware of how much we pick apart every single thing that Rob, Kristen, and Taylor say. We don't just listen to what they say and take it at face value, we study every little facial expression, their body language, pauses in conversation, etc to try to figure them out. Yes this happens to all famous people, but not to the extent that we do with them. Think about how we dissected Rob's every movement during the Tonight Show segment with Emma Roberts. "His eyebrows moved when she said this" etc. If they walk outside and scratch their ass, there's going to be 500 pictures of that online with in the hour. Things like Twitter have completely changed what it means to be famous. Surely it's more difficult to be famous now than it ever has been. And I think until you walk a mile in the shoes of those three people we can't have any possible clue what that must be like. Just imagine for a second what it must be like to be Rob. Imagine if millions of people spent hours a day obsessing over you and your life and judging you and everyone around you. Having to deal with the fact that anyone who meets you becomes open to the scrutiny of all of those people. I can't imagine the pressure that has to bring with it.

As far as Kristen, fame, and the future of her career after Twilight goes, I'm quite certain it's not something she's concerned about. Many people in her shoes would be loving all of the attention, getting a big head, and worrying about having to take a back seat to other stars once the movies are completed. But Kristen is obviously the type of person who would be happy making small independant movies that she believed in that might not have million dollar paychecks attached to them. After seeing her in the Runaways I have a lot of respect for her as an actress, but even if you think she can't act I don't think you can deny that she loves the craft of acting, not the lifestyle of a movie star. So I don't think she'll be losing sleep over that any time soon.

Solas, 'curing infertility'...good one! Well, I am so cynical about politicians, pretty much all of them, that the idea of Rob going into that is as bad, to me, as...oh I don't know...but bad.

I think, by the time politicians get to powerful positions, corruption claims them and the higher they go, the more corrupt. Power corrupts. Seen it way too often. Been disillusioned way too often.

Okay I do prefer Rob's hair a certain way--argument with Nik on other thread--but in the end it is his soul I care about. And some here would say it is none of my business. But I'm full of opinions just like the rest of the bunch here and that's one of mine. It's moot anyway because Rob doesn't listen or care what I think.

I don't think Rob could do much good in a political position of power. I think Al Gore did more by not winning that election than he would've by winning it.

People own you if you're a politician; you must compromise all the time, sacrificing important things for other things, and so on. No, I would not want Rob to be a politician. I think he's trying to please his father by saying that. His Dad has a lot of clout with Rob, as far as we can tell these things. I might be wrong. What the heck do I know?

But I'd prefer Rob write and sing songs. Take care of the soul. That's where the real power is anyway.

100% perfectly summed up - don't think anyone has expressed it better.
