New Little Ashes Clip

MTV.com features the first one as a new clip too but it's not new. The second video is new :)

Accompanying MTV article:

Instead of Edward Cullen's pale skin, he's boasting the olive complexion of a Spaniard. Rather than speaking in the measured tones of the "Twilight" vampire, his dialogue is delivered with the cool nonchalance of a brilliant artist with his life before him. And in place of his beloved Bella, Robert Pattinson is enamored with a young poet named Federico.

In the wake of the smash success of "Twilight," anyone who doubts Robert Pattinson's acting skills might want to take a close look at these two exclusive clips from "Little Ashes," the long-awaited indie drama that will soon aim to prove that RPattz is more than just a pretty face.

For quite some time now, we've been following "Ashes," a biopic Pattinson shot just before "Twilight" put his face on the bedroom walls of teenagers all over the world. From the Spanish accent to the crazy Dali moustache to the film's homosexual subplot, it certainly doesn't fit the mold of follow-up vehicles most actors seek after a Hollywood breakthrough. But as Pattinson has stated on numerous occasions, he isn't looking to remain a teen heartthrob — and brave choices like "Ashes" are what turns a young actor into a Johnny Depp rather than a Kirk Cameron.

The first thing you notice is Rob's Italian accent(Gozde: Himm, Dali was Spanish. Are they saying Rob's Spanish accent sounded Italian or did MTV screw up? :) Yep, they screwed up. And they fixed it now.). In clip number one, poet Federico García Lorca (Javier Beltrán) and filmmaker Luis Buñuel (Matthew McNulty) discuss their desire to "make a difference to the world." Spying Dali and his newly cleaned-up look, Bunuel says "The girls will go crazy," to which the future surrealist painter replies: "I expect so."

In clip number two, the relationship between Dali and García Lorca is clearly developing, much to Buñuel's chagrin. "Frederico is working on something now that will blow everything apart," explains Pattinson, taking drags from a cigarette. "What's it about?" Luis replies. "His family? Butterflies? God?"

"Me," Dali answers, ominously foreshadowing the rift that is to come. Set in 1922 and detailing the awakening of the 18-year-old Dali at university in Madrid, "Little Ashes" will open in limited release beginning May 8.

I cannot wait to see this. I'm not watching the clips cos I want to see it in person.

I bought my tix today for the May 3 showing. I'm so excited. And from the looks of him in that suit and tie...with The Jaw? I'm going to like.

I'm also excited to see him do something different. I know he's got more under his belt (=O OMG teehee) than Edward Cullen.

Here's to hoping he's around for a long long delicious time.

I just hope he doesn't get too much backlash from moms everywhere saying he may not be a good role model/idol/hearthrob for the young girls.

Annik0r said...

yeah right, "italian accent".

Sorry for so many comments!!

At the same time, even if he does get backlash, I hope that doesn't stop him from building a unique career. With or without the younger fans.

Can't wait for this. Thank you for posting.

Suz said...

backlash from what, nin?

So far he is a wonderful role model.

Smart, humble, sweet, kind, etc.

what do you mean?

Lisa Serrano said...

Nina-I hope there is a little backlash. I don't think Rob's looking to be a role model.

I look at Zack Efron and I see how he has been put in this little box...have you seen the photos he took with the topless girl? He's having to try real hard to break the mold.

Let Rob never have to be put in that situation.

wish I could see the second clip...its not available from my location...grrrrr

I just love how Matthew McNulty says with his macho voice "His family? Butterflies? God?" and how Rob replays so coolly..."Me.".
I can't wait to see the damn movie!

Oh and I am so glad MTV is promoting the movie, it will help with the younger audience that are interested just in Twilight. Maybe it will open some minds.

I cannot wait to see this movie!

Suz...I'm just thinking that some people might be close minded about the underlying themes in the movie. I would hope not but as Lisa said..I wouldn't want him to be placed into a cookie cutter box either. He should be able to build his career from different movies that show what he can do.

~pout~ I can never see the MTV interviews? I live in Canada and it can't be viewed outside of the US.
....Great article though! Thanks! xoxoxo

I have to say that when I saw Twilight it was a mostly forgettable movie experience for me, despite the Rob eye candy. But my experience with this movie was alot different, his acting lingered with me for quite awhile afterwards...I was quite touched and saddened by his performance, so tragic. Anyway, I hope he gets the accolades he deserves....

could someone please youtube the vid? I hate living outside the US :(

Suz said...

Nin, that never even occurred to me, but I suppose it could happen...

Well, if it does, it just helps to weed out the undesirables...

Close minded individuals give me a headache.

Go Rob!

Dear Mads, go to MTV site and you will be able to see the clips!

Ms. Bonderson said...

The way he says "Frederico" with that "r" - ooh! Love it.

And, again, I don't know anyone else who can make smoking so sexy!

I don't think that the younger audience will be able to see the movie anyway, isn't it R rated?
And it has such a limited release that I don't believe that that many young fans will be able to see it.

Rob has never wanted to be anybody's role model, so I don't think it's a problem to loose a part of the twilight audience for this movie.

I have never seen an actor who is so sexy on screen with a woman or a man.
Kinda like Scarlett Johansson, sexy with Penelope Cruz and sexy with all her leading man!

Man! he is sexy with Javier Beltran.
Except for slight Spanish accent slipping once in a while, he is just plain genius Salvador Dali.

Wow, I cannot wait for this movie. We're a small town in the Bible Belt though, so I'm wondering how far I'm going to have to drive to see it.

I agree, I never knew "me" was such a sexy word. swoon

Rob never set out to be a role model. I think any fans he would lose because of this role will be made up for by the number of fans he gains. Rob is a true artist, not a teen hearthrob. He just happened to take on a role that had a built in following, many of whom are teens. He is a grown man. I think a lot of people forget, especially the teen and tweens, that Edward may be 17, but Rob is not.

AAArgh... I wanna see the sexy "me" word!!!

I can't watch this clip, IFC Canada doesn't do on demand, and so far, no dates for Little Ashes.

I'm going to have drag my entire family to the States just to get my fix!!!

tinababy1 said...

I don't think Robe is very concerned about the tween fans. In fact I'm sure he would like that part of it to die down a bit. He doesn't like being screamed at by 12 year olds everytime he shows up somewhere, and the last thing this wonderfully talented man needs is to be boxed in like those Disney kids. I can't see that happening though, because he brave enough to take on roles like Dali and Art.

Some dear person please put it on Youtube so we Europeans can see it!

I know what you mean Leanne. I left the theatre quite silent just replaying the scenes over and over and spent the next few days thinking of how much I loved it and when I could watch it again.

I wish I could see the clip though(live outside US), I'm in withdrawel from Little Ashes.

There are so many good comments here.

What I love is that people will say this film is a bold choice to downplay his tween fan base and "Twilight" success. Now we know from his own words that he chose the movie because he didn't think he'd get another acting job. I like that story better. It shows how hungry he was to work and reading some of your comments, his real acting talent coming from that place of hunger shines.

He isn't going to worry one bit about losing any fans. He wants to be an actor not a movie star.

I really want to watch this movie and How to be, but none of them will get here... grrrr so unfair!!
I really hope Rob will move fast from the teen hearthrob thing, he is a talented artist, he deserves more respect that the label of hearthrob, because that doesn´t lead anywhere, a couple of years and then done. I hope that the fact that he risks a lot taking complex roles, even if it was out of necesity thinking it would be the only works he could play.. hope it will give him credibility as a fine actor.

Rob is not trying to be anything but himself.
Hence, off-screen he keeps his unkept hair, his raggy shirts, go by his normal self, no pretense, does not wear sexy clothes to keep the appearances of People's sexiest man . . . he is truly who he is.
BUT DAMN, isn't he sexy no matter he does ---
