Rob as Frank Sinatra?

I don't think any of these supposed contenders look like Frank Sinatra.

POLL: Who Should Play Frank Sinatra?

POLL: Who Should Play Frank Sinatra?
he race is on in Hollywood to play Ol' Blue Eyes.

Oscar winner Martin Scorsese will be directing and producing a biopic about legendary singer Frank Sinatra, who died in 1998 at age 82. The hot-tempered Sinatra led a famously colorful life: He wed four times (including to movie stars Ava Gardner and Mia Farrow), had early ties to organized crime, and starred in 50-plus movies, including the original Rat Pack extravaganza, Ocean’s Eleven, as well as From Here to Eternity, for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

The role of Sinatra has yet to be cast, but the early favorite is Leonardo DiCaprio, who has made three films with Scorsese, including Shutter Island, which opens this fall. Another possible contender: Johnny Depp. Respected film industry blogger Nikki Finke reports he's the choice of the sponsoring studio, Universal. Neither actor is known for his warbling abilities, but that doesn’t matter because the film, which has the cooperation of the Sinatra estate, will use the crooner’s original recordings.

Other possible contenders? Justin Timberlake, who actually can sing and has the right hungry look. Tween heartthrob Joe Jonas has the pipes and the right look. Or maybe even Twilight’s Robert Pattinson, if he loses the fangs and nails a New Jersey accent. Pick your favorite to portray the crooner below:

Who do you think should play Frank Sinatra?
Leonardo DiCaprio
Joe Jonas
Johnny Depp
Justin Timberlake
Robert Pattinson

Honestly I can't see any of them playing Frank Sinatra. Sorry Rob :)

Rob can play young Sinatra and Johnny Depp play old Sinatra. Problem solved.

Rob doesn't fit in my opinion

I love Rob to death, but I don't think he's a good choice. Besides, he's probably to busy with his other films. I think Leo should get it... though if you ask me, Frank looked a hell lot like Joe Jonas when he was young, based on the pic by Mixxy. Sad part is, Joe can't really act.. so, yeah.. let's just go with Leo.

Of course, I'd love to see RP in anything, especially a non-teen oriented film—and, in terms of his facial appearance and mannerisms, we all recognize what a chameleon he is, and know that he would do an admirable job....

But, among the actors shown, Leonardo most closely resembles a younger Sinatra.

I could also see Matt Damon playing this part—with a lean look, as in the Bourne series.

And Michelle Williams would make a great Mia Farrow.

Still love you, RP!!

Kate said...

Gosh I dunno, I don't think I'd pick any of them! :-}

Rob can sing "Strangers in the night" to me, without having to play Frank Sinatra. XD

Does Michael Buble act? If not him, then Harry Connick Jr. None of these work for me.

Mrs. Robinsane said...

P.S. "Lose the fangs"? For the last time: he (as Edward) would have to ACQUIRE some fangs, in order to lose them.

*own fangs bared at uninformed reporter*

Hmmm none of the above....Leo if I had to vote for one.

They probably threw Rob in there just because he's the current hot topic. He's wrong for Sinatra - but I'm still holding out for the Jeff Buckley biopic!

I think RP is not a contender for this role and it is silly to try and see him in it. I like RP... but this one is not for him.

I'd pick Jonny Depp... I did :) He has the ability to transform like no other actor I had ever seen... I think he would be a believable Sinatra..RP should go for another member of the Rat Pack... Dean Martin perhaps : )

I love you babe, but as you have said many many times.. it's about the right part and the right script.. and the right person for it all...You were wonderful the Little Ashes... and you were the right choice for Dali... no doubt there..

I've seen this guy.. Patrick Tobin, he does a Sinatra impersonation that is amazing! He's too tall for Sinatra, but has the blue eyes.. and if you close your eyes.. he sounds just like a young Sinatra.. take a listen if you are interested : )

i love johnny, and i think he could do it but RTP has the eyes and i think hes become a good actor so who knows i like leo too but martin needs to work with someone different.

You know VoL..... you might be right.. after looking at those pics you left... I see a possible match!! And He'd probably do an amazing Jersey accent!...

Jala said...

I still don't really see Rob as Frank inspite of those pics, VoL.

I think Leo might be able to pull it off.

VeilsofLight said...

Kelly...I know, I think he looks more like Frank than Leo does, but truth be told, there are a million other parts I'd rather see him play (other than my lover) :)

He could either develop some serious acting chops and actually make an Oscar-worthy film (especially with Scorsese at the helm, OR could end up turning into a caricature on film and regret having done it. Hard to say.

No disrespect intended, but both he and Kristen could benefit from some acting training, it would make all the difference in the world. He has some wonderful, real moments on screen, but could truly be phenomenal with the right coach.

She was quoted as saying once that acting lessons would somehow ruin the integrity/naturalness of being in the moment (paraphrased) but that's like saying a musician who can't read music would somehow be compromised by some classical training.

Again, no disrespect to her, but shaking your head incessantly throughout a movie does not an actor make.

Anonymous said...

I voted for Johnny Depp, I just don't think any of the others would be credible, sorry Rob! As for Joe Jonas, what a joke that he has been suggested! He would need to be 15 years older and get some acting lessons first.

Kelly said...

VoL - Wow... I agree to a point.. although like any talent.. I think you have to be born with that something that enables you to do it. Anyone can take singing lessons.. but not everyone can sing.. as with any lessons... I think Rob is young and a lot of living will always add to a performance.. I like that he has done different characters... different personas... Kristen.. well, I think she is smart.. as for talent... well.. I don't want to seem mean at all.. but I would like to see her break out of her shell.. and play something truly different... the straight.. humorless female... she's done that...I don't know.. I don't dislike her.. she's young and time will always tell...for those who can remember the 80's and the Breakfast club pack.. how many of them made it out of that? it's all time and choice.. be willing to do something different and show us what you've got... or stick to same ole same ole.. and as you age so will your career. Again.. it's too early to tell.. they are so young.. with their entire lives ahead of them... life changes you.. your perspective.. how you look at things.. youth to full of learning opportunities.... life is even more full of them : )

Once again...comments like these are why I LOVE this site. We can be objective about Rob and don't jump on a bandwagon just because we think he's awesome.

I don't think any of the actors here are a good match. Nothing wrong with finding an unknown actor if he can completely nail the role.

Veils - Lessons should improve your skill not take away from it, I agree. Love Rob, but it wouldn't hurt him to take a few acting lessons (plenty of good actors have done it). It isn't an admission that one is not good, it's an admission that one wants to be the best possible.

Anna said...

VoL, you said it very well. I think Rob is naturally very gifted, but he still needs to grow as an actor. I hope he gets to do that in the coming years before he takes on truly challenging parts. In the meantime, we can enjoy the pretty and hope for the best!

Anonymous said...

Neither of these guys would be ok for Sinatra. DiCaprio, Rob and Timberlake are too tall. Some are too good-looking (Rob and Depp), because Sinatra was not handsome at all, he was no Montgomery Clift.

Kate said...

Totally agree ladies that's why I love this site too.....everyone is honest about what they think and everyone's opinion is taken in the right way!
I said before that I think Rob will grow into a great actor over the years. I can't wait to see him gain more experience and do more challenging roles!

Mrs. Robinsane said...

Veils, KK, Kelly:

Good points, everyone!

Kelly: I remember the '80s all too well (and, despite the unavoidable way this dates me, I wouldn't trade having been a teen in the '80s for anything—too much fun and depravity! :P).

I think that part of the reason the John Hughes crew remained typecast, in those days, was because the movies, in general, were so dominated by films in the teen genre. (A few exceptions, who have now deviated from their teen idol personas: John Cusack, Robert Downey, Jr., and Matthew Broderick.)

I don't think there is any single, dominating genre at the moment, so RP is well positioned (*said well positioned...sigh*) to create a diverse career. What I do find different now, as opposed to the '80s, is the ubiquitousness of media coverage of stars, so that, for me, it is often difficult to be convinced by an actor—even a very gifted actor—in any movie role ("Oh, look, it's Tom Cruise," etc.).

But RP seems to be on the right track: making careful choices, and disappearing into each part.

A random aside: my "dream team," for an imaginary future film cast, would be Rob, Ewan McGregor, and Cillian Murphy.

KK:

Gemgirl65 said...

Chantalco, you just said it in a nutshell for me...these guys are either too tall or just not a good physical match. Frank Sinatra was a skinny little man with big ears and, of course, beautiful big blue eyes when he was young. He also danced in a lot of musicals with some of the greats (my thoughts go immediately to "Anchors Aweigh" with the inimitable Gene Kelly.) None of these actors really fit the bill physically or musically for me. I'm with KK, find a great unknown!

Veils of Light, loved your post. I'm not a great judge of acting because I'm actually not a big movie buff. Traditionally music has been much more "my thing." For me, Rob has already shown a lot of versatility and natural ability as an actor, but I don't really know how to rate him on a "skill" level, if that makes any sense. I often think that his charisma blinds me a bit to his ability! He's one of those actors I can't take my eyes off of; he seems to overwhelm every scene he's in. I truly have difficulty looking away from him to other actors in the scene. But I think that's just my own personal attraction to him than a reflection of his acting prowess. ;)

I would agree that "continuing education" is beneficial for any job, acting included. I would also agree that Kristin could use it. I like her, but from what I can tell, she's played pretty much the same type of character in all her movies so far. I think she is being herself more than she is acting. I would like to see her broaden her range and work on her clipped, blunt delivery.

Armchair acting coach stepping down now! LOL

Gemgirl65 said...

Ewan McGregor! *sigh* He's awesome.

I have trouble naming my favorite younger actors. When I think "favorite actor" in general, the first name that pops up for me is Al Pacino. And on the female side, Meryl Streep. Meryl Streep is ridiculous in her ability.

Kelly said...

Hi Kelly:

I come here for the same reasons: RP infusions & excellent conversations. :)

By the way: I notice that many ladies wish each other "happy Robdreams," when signing off for the evening. Well, two night ago, I actually HAD a Robdream (which is highly unusual for me, since I rarely dream about anyone recognizable).

The only part I remember with any clarity is a scene in the back of an enormous limo (not the knee-scrunching, ankle-rubbing kind ;)), en route to some event with a seated, casually dressed (ha) RP.

For some reason, I was taking a shower in the back of said limo, along with another lady (KK? Leann? SUZ??!!).

And boy, was he STARING....

*sorry if TMI* ;P

Woa Mrs. R! Interesting dream! I dreamed about Rob twice, but it's been at least a month ago. All I remember about it was that I was lying on the floor holding hands with Rob and we were giggling like kids. That's it...just holding hands. Perhaps there's some part of my too-old-for-Rob subconscious that just won't go past the hand-holding stage. LOL

Gemgirl65 said...

No flying objects, Melissa...none of us think Rob's right for this one. Out of the list, I'd pick either Leo or Justin T. Actually Justin Timberlake wouldn't be too bad, but he'd half to de-buff and get all skinny...I just can't see that happening!

Aww! Love your chaste Robdream.

I can't really see Rob as Frank. IMO, the best acting choice is Johnny, but I'm not sure what age they are showing Frank - that will likely play into the casting as well. Of course, Johnny still looks 35, lol!

ITA agree about Rob and Kristin needing some acting coaching, especially Kristin. Rob had some great moments in Twilight (and I honestly think a lot of ones that weren't were due to the director. Could she not see that some of his expressions were .... off?) but Kristin is usually stiff and kinda flat. I don't know if it's nerves or that's all she's got. I have seen her do better in other things, so I am hoping that with the right directer (i.e. Chris Weitz) they will both up their performances, and the chemistry that CH only caught glimpses of in Twilight will really shine thru.

I've only dreamt about Rob a few times...I remember I was stuck in a huge crowd trying to find my way out when I heard a voice say, "There you are" and I turned and it was Rob.

And I am not too old for Rob. No way. :)))))))

Kelly said...

Mrs. R... Just might have been.. but if it was me in the dream... concurrent with my dreams I would have promptly fallen out of the car!

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Leann - I saw your comment about feeling disbelief that I haven't listened to the commentary yet. I know, I know!! I will listen. I haven't seen HTB yet either even though I can order it from cable. I will watch it this coming weekend when I'm down in Chicago...my bud asked me yesterday if I would just wait now because she wants to watch it with me.

I do love Rob, but I don't know that I'm as completely in to him as some others are on this site. Perhaps I should work on that???? :D

Gemgirl65 said...

Stacy, I think you're right about the directing. I think CH got a lot of things right overall; for instance, I loved the cinematography and lush feel/look of the movie; I also loved the music, for the most part (though there were a few "off" moments for me." CH created a Twilight world that I really believed. But the smaller moments, yes, there were details in the acting and direction that just could have been better.

Rob seems to be completely aware of that, too, since in the commentary he says, "I have so many inexplicable facial expressions in this movie." He constantly pokes fun at himself for his acting choices in Twilight, so I suppose that's a good thing, since he'll learn from it.

Kelly, love your falling for Rob dreams! Those make complete sense. All I can remember from mine other than the hand-holding was that, before that, Rob kept trying to get rid of people (I don't remember where we were or what the situation was) so we could be alone. He kept giving me these little secret grins while he made up excuses to get away from everyone else, I guess to lie around holding hands with me. *eyeroll* And in the dream I was thinking, "Wow, what is he doing...am I crazy, or does he want to be alone with me?"

The answer, of course, is YES...I am crazy.

margot said...

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Margot - All those hot accents in one movie would do me in!

Mrs. R. - How is your screenplay with Rob, Ewan and Cillian going? You've had about 20 minutes, so I'm expecting it's almost done???? NC-17...yeah, baby! Mwahhahahaha!

Gemgirl65 said...

Yes KK, I was talking about you behind your back. ;) But you know I would have said it to your face! :)

The only reason I am a nag about that is because the commentary is quite revealing about Rob, in a lot of ways. It's just really interesting. He cuts himself down to the point where it's almost too much...as if he's begging someone to tell him he's wrong, and he's actually great and handsome and not some talentless, hideous hack. I mean, it's funny as hell, but kind of "so funny it's sad"...I'm thinking RobArt will be the same, though I haven't see How To Be and probably won't be able to until it comes out on DVD. *pouts*

OH, BTW, WHERE do I find Cullenary Coupling on twilighted? What section is it under? I was actually going to read some yesterday and then got interrupted by a phone call from an old friend. This old friend just read Twilight, because she wanted to see the movie but not until after she read the book. She could not put the book down, and is about to start New Moon. She is going to watch Twilight today. I sent her Midnight Sun. She is toast! Get this...she already had a bunch of Rob's music downloaded to her iPod. She has one foot in the Robsessed gutter and another on a banana peel. Another one bites the dust! I LOVE it!

As I told Thirtysomething...you may read the first seven chapters thinking that you're not sure if you want to keep going. Stick with it to Chapter 8, and then Edward's neurotic ride begins hardcore!! It turns into a completely different story.

Mrs. Robinsane said...

KK:

Don't worry: my knowledge of RP is not as extensive as it could be (I have seen HTB on-demand, but, except for clips, have not seen Little Ashes, The Haunted Airman, or Bad Mother's Handbook).

I justify my perhaps preposterous interest in RP by remembering not just his appearance or his acting, but his amazing personality (which I delude myself into thinking may be compatible, in some essential ways, with my own).

Wouldn't he, under normal circumstances, be the most incredible guy to meet, and to befriend?

And isn't it tempting to imagine befriending him, since—much like Edward's monologue in the Twilight movie, in which he describes the way that vampires are designed to draw humans in, irresistibly—RP's very openness, his unusual guilelessness, seem to indicate a willingness, even an eagerness, toward friendship and further intimacy?

Gemgirl65 said...

Eight chapters??? They'd better be short ones. LOL

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Leann - You could just skip and go right to the "Heart of Darkness" chapters...you wouldn't miss anything. In fact, do this. You can always go back and read the beginning if the author decides to go back to that storyline...

Mrs. Robinsane said...

Gemgirl65 said...

I haven't seen HTB or LA, but I have seen all of Rob's other work except the "Niebelungs." "Bad Mother's Handbook" is actually quite good, and a bit depressing; Rob's supporting role as the dweeb with a heart of gold is the comic relief and quite endearing. In fact, his character is SO painfully awkward in this movie that he makes Art look like a suave, sophisticated guy.

For me, "The Haunted Airman" is the best work Rob's done to date (though again I haven't seen LA or HTB.) It changed how I looked at Rob as an actor.

Gemgirl65 said...

Who is Cillian Murphy?

*sheepish*

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Mrs. R. -

Your interest is not preposterous. I don't even hide my own interest. My mom and sis know about it...my teammate at work knows about it (perhaps because I keep changing his desktop backgrounds on our computer to pics of Rob. He's finally stopped fighting me on it!!! Wise man...)My friends all know about it...

What you said about Rob is so true. This is why, despite how attractive he is, I think many of us truly would like the opportunity just to sit down with him over a cup of coffee and talk. I think it's a credit to him that so many of his fans truly want to engage in simple conversation with him. That alone shows that there is so much more to him than a pretty face...that we would like to see the Rob behind the heartthrob and learn of the old soul behind those stunning sanpaku eyes.

Then once the conversation is over...it's anyone's game!!!!!! ;)

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Leann - Agreed. "Haunted Airman" was the film that showed me the potential range of Rob's acting talent.

Mrs. Robinsane said...

Leann:

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Mrs. R. - Are you talking about your character sampling the actors in your screenplay or does your research call for sampling the actors in real life?

Research is tough and exhausting, but you owe it to yourself to see all possibilities through... (said with an eyebrow waggle waggle).

Then it tells me there is no account under that name (huh?) and that I must click the link below to register. So I do that, and then it takes me to all the forums with all the fanfic, but there are 20 categories and I don't know which one Cullenary Coupling is under. So I am back where I started. Can we throw Ralph Fiennes into the Cillian Murphy/Rob/Ewan mix? Now that would be hot! Something about R. Fiennes has always gotten me going in a perverse way. Plus, I think he's a fabulous actor.

Btw, totally agree with the comments on Kristen/Rob benefiting from acting lessons. A few nights ago I watched Twilight (it had been many weeks since I'd seen it last), and I think it was the very first time that I watched it objectively. First time I compared it to the book and every time thereafter I think I was just drooling over Rob :)
The results after this last viewing for me were not altogether good. In fact, there were several parts where I nearly spit my drink out laughing at the unbelievability of some of the scenes and the poor quality of the acting.
That being said, the good parts far outweigh the bad, and I obviously love, love love the movie. But Rob could benefit from some coaching - he tends to use the same facial expressions repeatedly. And Kristen, I couldn't agree more with the comment above, that her idea of acting seems to be to just act like herself. It's dull and very lifeless at times.

Shani said...

Yeah, I have to agree with you ladies that RP is not the "chosen one" to play Frank. Frank had swagger that non of these actors have. They need to find someone else.

I also agree with getting an acting coach and life experiences that will help him to become that Oscar worthy actor.

And I have never had a dream about Rob. I guess I get out all my sexual frustration commenting here.

I hear you.. that is how I look at him as well.. he seems like the kind of person one would want to know.. that would be a wonderful thing.. to befriend him to the point of conversations.. texts.. phone calls.. even christmas cards.... and when he had the time to share a meal with you.. that's when you get the hugs of hello and good bye... and hey if a drunken nite of unmentionable actions occures between friends.. who am I to complain : )

Lizalou - Ralph Fiennes with Rob, Ewan and Cillian? Now I'm not only having a heart attack but a stroke too! I have always adored him since I first saw him in "Strange Days."

Yes, hello Shani!!!! How's it goin'?

@ Lizalou ... funny - almost the same comment at almost the same time :D

KK, I have to confess that I watch Maid in Manhattan just for R. Fiennes. Rawr!

Phew. I think Rob will age well just as R. Fiennes has.
Actually, come to think of it, R. Fiennes isn't a bad role model for Rob to have. Great actor who has chosen many good roles and appeared in a wide array of films.

Kelly, I'm talking about the Twilight DVD commentary with Rob, Kristen and Catherine. KK still hasn't listened to it. I think she's afraid to fall down the rabbit hole. ;)

Margot, hellooo!! I still owe you an email! IA with you....even with all the clumsy moments in Twilight( both the movie and the books,) the pull of it all is irresistable. There is some magical combination of the story of Edward and Bella and the fortuitous casting of Rob (and to a lesser degree Kristen) that is impossible to deny, even as it's impossible to fully explain. I've read all the Twilight books twice and have watched the movie more times than I can count. None of it is perfect by any means, and yet I never tire of it either. I have given up trying to figure out why.

I do agree with Mrs. R that there is something about Rob which goes far beyond the role of Edward, or any other role he's chosen to play. Watching his interviews reveals him to be a fairly unique young man, unjaded and open in a wary and suspicious post-modern world. He is a much-needed breath of fresh air. I think I'd be here all day if I started listing all the unique and often contrary elements that make up this one human being, and I already talk too much. :)

Yes, I need to go too. I have 40+ students patiently waiting for me to post end-of-semester grades for my courses. Can you believe I had two students copy each other's final tests including a writing assignment word-for-word? Now I have to decide if I'm going to dock the points for the final or fail them outright for the course. Sadly, high school doesn't end at high school. They obviously think I'm an idiot. Wait until they get my emails....

Hope to catch up with you later!

Gemgirl65 said...

Lizalou, feel free to throw Ralph Fiennes in anywhere you want, especially if it's in my direction. And send his brother Joseph too.

Kelly said...

Leann you do not talk to much.. I doo.. I repeat myelf all the time... I repeat myself all the time : )

Lizalou said...

Ah why the hell not, while we're at it, can we just throw Colin Firth in, too?
Lord, Colin Firth and Rob in a room...
Call an ambulance, I'm going to keel over.

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Leann - You are seriously trying to "out" my inanttention to the commentary, aren't you? A little peer pressure, yes????? BWAHHAHAHA

I will not fail you or the Robsessors. Not afraid of falling down the rabbit hole...I've been living there for some time now. More afraid of losing my fragile sense of reality re: RP. Did ya get my email????

GOZ - it's good to see your posting again.

We are all thinking and praying for you and yours:)

WE LOVE YOU BIG TIME!!!!!

Colin Firth! *drools and dies*

KK, it's the least I can do since everyone is after me about the ff. ;D I got your email and replied...same ol' shiz! That site does not want me to find CC.

"fragile sense of reality"...I don't think that's a problem 'round these parts, do you? :o :P *snort*

Gemgirl65 said...

KK, laughing about your brainiac students. How is it that they think you won't notice two identical tests?

*sigh* I suppose I ought to go do something constructive with my day. My house looks like Rob's hotel room. I wish I were kidding.

Totally agree with you ladies, Rob is not right for the role of Sinatra, but I think Johnny Depp could pull it off, he is an amazing actor and really puts himself into the roles he's playing.
I would love to see Rob play in a movie with Ewan Mcgregor and Colin Firth ( two of my favorite older actors.)
Hope all of you are having a great day.

Mechevpao said...

Leann: "For me, Rob has already shown a lot of versatility and natural ability as an actor, but I don't really know how to rate him on a "skill" level, if that makes any sense. I often think that his charisma blinds me a bit to his ability! He's one of those actors I can't take my eyes off of; he seems to overwhelm every scene he's in. I truly have difficulty looking away from him to other actors in the scene. "...

You defined exactly what happens to me too. I could have never said it better.

I think that given to Rob the exact roles and the exact people to work with him he will develop into a great actor, we can see he has a natural ability to act, I´m sure with experience he will grow in his acting; I´m not sure if he needs "training" for it, there are actors that had gone throw acting schools and have yet to prove ability (Orlando Bloom); there are actors that went and are terrific like Ralph Fines and then there are actors like Johnny Depp, that didn´t do any acting training, but he benefited him self working with a director like Tim Burton that gave him the space in many movies to do what he wanted to do and strength his acting talent.

As for who could play Sinatra, Rob will be ripped apart by critics if he plays that role, aside if he would be the right choice for it or not. Scorssese will probably go for DiCaprio, but I don´t think he is the right choice either.

Out of the choices listed here, I would have to vote for Leo as Sinatra. Even though I would love to see Rob as much as I can, I don't want to see him in something that wouldn't do him justice.

KK (or anyone here;) do you know if Cullenary Coupling is posted anywhere else -- for some unexplainable reason I can not access Twilighted.

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

BI - I don't think that "Cullenary Coupling" is anywhere else. Are you having trouble creating a login account? Leann had so much trouble but finally got in. Let me know...

Diane said...

I think Rob has the access to his emotions, plus the soul and commitment to be a great actor - lessons not necessary.

As for the Sinatra thing, since they're using Frank's vocals I think they'd be wiser to go with an unknown. Leo is a terrific actor but it would be hard not to see one icon pretending to be another.

If they could find an unknown with a similar vibe and good acting chops, it would come off as more of a "Sinatra" pic rather
than a dare to see if this guy or that could pull off a challenging part.

hmmmmm...the more roles i get to see rob in the better...just sayin...

kespax said...

Yuck no - not creepy sinatra, a horrid man to portray. And harry connick Jnr should be first pick.

Re Twilight and the issues witht he movie - tis mostly Catherine Hardwicke, she and whoever did editing. The editing was apalling, a couple of times I almsot jumped in the Cinema at how disjointed it was. Particularly jarring - when they walk outside biology and suddenly Edward's saying you shouldn't be my friend - that whole scene just was just suddenly and very jekily shoved in your face.
The excursion, full of jerky editing.

He utterly dominates the screen, and he's devastatingly charismatic and charming when he's flowing and I don't think hardwicke had much to do with those scenes, the restaurant, and other playful scenes are so much more natural.
I don't think she had a clue how to direct him and was just mesmerised by him - when you listen to the commentary they seem to be on 2 different planets.

You cant ignore the fact tht leo has always been a scorsese favourite... If rob gets chosen, he shud thank his stars right there.. Working with scorsese is as close an actor can get to heaven on earth! :)

The compettion is tuff.. Johnny depp is great enuf as it is..he's the kinda guy who'd throw himself into the role..but i dont thinkfrank's voice would suit any of em..

N wat where they thinking with joe jonas n JT!?? No offence they are good singers but they cant be sinatra! Especially not joe.. He's too young!!

el said...

Joe Jonas?? Justin Timberlake?? wtf???

i reckon Leo will do better playing Sinatra than he did playing Howard Hughes. (and i've been a Leo fan for 15 yrs)

el said...

oh and actually Leo has made FOUR films with Scorsese (not three), including Shutter Island.

honey bee said...

Leo.

Sorry Rob. ;)

Rob once said in an interview he spoke in an New Jerseee accent while auditioning. I'd actually pay to hear it. lol

honey bee said...

*I meant 'while auditioning for roles'.

Well if oyu ask me, if all of them were 1 person, then it should have pretty good with each of their skills added together.
But for now,im voting LEO even though,if, he can sing.
