Its Official Eclipse Has a Director

David Slade below has most recently directed 30 Days of Night, and Hard Candy (both creepy movies...im intrigued)

Los Angeles, CA April 22, 2009 – Summit Entertainment announced today that David Slade has been hired to direct THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE from a screenplay written by Melissa Rosenberg. THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE, the third film in the studio’s TWILIGHT film franchise based on the Stephenie Meyer’s blockbuster book series, will be released theatrically in North America on Wednesday, June 30, 2010. The announcement was made by Erik Feig, Summit’s President of Production.

Meyer stated, “I am thrilled that David Slade will be directing ECLIPSE. He’s a visionary filmmaker who has so much to offer this franchise. From the beginning, we’ve been blessed with wonderful directorial talent for the Twilight Saga, and I’m so happy that ECLIPSE will be carrying on with that tradition.”

Feig said, “Stephenie Meyer’s ECLIPSE is a muscular, rich, vivid book and we at Summit looked long and hard for a director who could do it justice. We believe we have found that talent in David Slade, a director who has been able to create complex, visually arresting worlds. We cannot wait to see the ECLIPSE he brings to life and brings to the fans eagerly awaiting its arrival in summer of 2010.”

Filmmaker Slade came to prominence as a director for his work on 2006’s engrossing film HARD CANDY starring Academy Award® Nominated actress Ellen Page as well as directing 2007’s genre hit 30 DAYS OF NIGHT which opened to number one at the box office its first weekend of release.

In ECLIPSE, Bella once again finds herself surrounded by danger as Seattle is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest for revenge. In the midst of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob — knowing that her decision has the potential to ignite the ageless struggle between vampire and werewolf. With her graduation quickly approaching, Bella is confronted with the most important decision of her life.

Yay...I'm looking forward to Eclipse featuring a more "touchy-feely" Edward (and therefore Rob)if it goes by the book. I should have faith that this director can do it justice.

just commenting this in another topic. He seems to be an independent director, more like Catherin style than Criz, but he goes more into the horror genre. Eclipse is darker than the other, a lot about vampire backstory, it could be well reflected with this director, I don´t know the romance part.

Eclipse is a close 2nd fave. Hopes he does it right.

30~Love the new Avatar. He's more RobArt in that one though.

Not sure when shooting starts but I read somewhere that it'll be completed by the time New Moon premieres in November.

So what is this director like I haven't seen any of those movies?

And can he do justice to the yummy proposal and all that sweet old fashioned Edward stuff. I love that bit it's so romantic.

a very experienced director.
a vampire movie "30 days of night" is in his resume, i suppose that is why he got hired?
saw that movie with Josh Harnett, but didn't like.
he is british though. i hope he & Robert get along.

i mean "NOT a very experienced director"

The vampire and werewolf stuff should be AWESOME. I just hope it doesn't get too weird and he does the love story and sexual tension between Edward and Bella justice! ;)

ugh. feeling concerned. hope he can do it justice. wonder if this is difficult for the cast, changing directors each time?

I don't understand why they can't keep the same director. New Moon hasn't even finished production, and Summits already decided to replace the director? Odd.

Totally exited!!!!! I am almost done reading Eclipse for the 2nd time. It really is a good book. I hope the special visual effects don't overshadow the script. They need to remember Twilight was a hit because of the chemistry between Rob and Kristen, not the special effects.

This director seems like a visual movie maker. I haven't seen his movies (don't like scary jumpy movies, they actually SCARE ME) so I don't know if he works just as hard on the emotions of the movie as well as the effects.

We'll see, exited though non-the-less.

I'm not familiar with this guy at all. I've never seen any of the movies he has done (that I know of)-but I'll give him a chance!

I never saw any of his movies. Is he good? It is strange to have a different director for each one of the movies... But, for Summit, time and money run fast... The good thing is that we will get to watch the movies without having to wait too much, and Rob will be "free" to get new roles...

They decided to choose another director because Chris will be doing NM´s post production and won´t have time to work in Eclipse.

I said my peace last night...I don't know...we just have to ride this pony until Breaking Dawn...

SIDE NOTE: I'm not clever today with my words...GO BRAIN CELL...GO BRAIN CELL...GOOOO...LMAO

I`m fairly optimistic and I think that Slade can make a bitchin` movie out of Eclipse. So, I`ll just enjoy the ride. :D

LOVED Hard Candy-sure he will do a fine job with Eclipse

ANON's- With the clock ticking for our ageless vampire they need to shoot these as quickly as possible. Directors have months of post production to do on a film. The movies would be a good year or more between them unless they change directors.

Lisa~I think Rob already looks more mature. I bet by the time "Breaking Dawn" is completed, we'll see a very mature Rob compared to "Twilight." It is fine to me, but not to the story!

Great director!
Can someone please tell the director to replace Nikki Reed as Rosalie Hale???
Rosalie Hale is supposed to be very beautiful and alluring which Nikki Reed is NOT. Nikki Reed is TOO FAT( huge butt and thighs) and TOO OLD for the Rosalie character.
Lastly, Nikki Reed is NOT attractive at all. SHE LOOKS ORDINARY!!! Alice is cute & better looking than her.

If Nikki Reed will be Rosalie Hale in Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, I don't think I will be interested to watch the movie at all. She CANNOT ACT and won't do justice to Rosalie Hale's character at all.
PLEASE REPLACE NIKKI REED!!!!
