The "hero of Twilight"—that's a sweet and apt description. :)

SarahBella said...

yummm. i'm so there! without actually getting to be there...which is tragic.

Remember when they asked Rob about the difference between the obsession with Edward Cullen versus Harry Potter? And he said that he doesn't think the fans of harry potter want to sleep him? I'm glad you know that we all want to sleep with you, Rob. Would hate for there to be any confusion on that one. Cheers to being on the same page! Lol ;)

Btw...hi everyone! Long time lurker and first time poster. Would snicker and cosign with all of your hilarious comments, but I'm finally compelled to participate in discussions of His Royal Fineness. Glad to see there are grown ass people who have an unhealthy obsession with Rob much like mine. Hehe.

Sarah...LOl
Welcome girl! You've come to the right place :)

Where grown women can SQUEEE like little girls and talk about "grown up stuff" All Rob, All the time!

BTw, totally off topic, I made a couple of videos:

Hope the link works, I'm new at this, but it's fun making them and I wanted to share :)

This picture reminds me of my early Twilight obsession when I randomly discovered a clip of Twilight on youtube before being released. That's how I was introduced to Edward Cullen.
And at the time of this first interview in LE GRAND JOURNAL I was catching up with all the Twilight universe, reading the books and my robsession had just started *sigh* it was the fisrt interview that I really waited for (I was in France for Chritmas holidays)
yes I'm being nostalgic, it must be the effect of what Gozde said in the MTV awards post :))

Anna said...

Um, SarahBella - I did want to spleep with Cedric (who IS legal, btw)! So as far as I'm concerned, not one of Rob's more enlightened comments :p

Also, "héros" just means "main character" in French (they're not THAT into him over at le Grand Journal!). But don't be disappointed Rob, you're still my hero, you can come rescue me any day :))

riddleinside said...

Oh yeah LittleBear you're right, that's what he probably meant: I was so ecstatic that I translated the word's main meaning :p (especially when thinking about Robward)

really can't wait for tomorrow :D

SarahBella said...

Lol!! Thanks for the welcome, Yvonne! I already feel right at home among others who want to do unspeakable things to Rob...haha!

And btw, I checked out your vid! ::sigh:: Not helping with my obsession. I think this man was put on earth to completely torture and tease me. I hate crushing on someone I can't have, damnit! Lol!

LittleBear...I think he was referring to Edward versus Harry, not Cedric. I haven't watched the movies, but I saw pics of him as Cedric and I gotta agree with you on that one ;)

Anna said...

lol riddle, can't blame you!

sarahbella: you need to watch Goblet of Fire. I've seen it again recently after becoming robsessed, and, wow :)

anna F said...

Oh, I was about to forget! it seems to be even uploaded on their website, Canal+ can be great sometimes!

I really hope that they will be better than last time: who wanted to hear about south park (some tribute to twilight...)? I mean, I actually really liked Mouloud during his MTV host time, but he was not that enlightening about twilight ;_; Not that the others were any better.

OK, I stop here and concentrate on positive thinking!

riddleinside said...

@AnnaF totally agree: I hope they have done some research on the topic now and not only ask:
so now all the teenage girls like you? -___-

Arianne is the worst for me, when she asked what is the secret of Edward, fainting that this must not be revealed...and Kristen didn't seem to understand French humour lol
If only they ask him about Bel-ami!!!

margot said...

Sarahbella hi and welcome )))
post post post - it's fun !

anna F said...

I hope that they will ask about his future projects in general, and yes, it would awsome if they asked about Bel ami... But since it was only mentioned once by him, that would require having done some research. Well, hopefully someone at canal+ is more a fan than previously and can enlighten them about people's actual interests!
clues: NOT his hair, his sunglasses, his exercizing schedule, his G-friend-status!

anna F said...

I actually don't even really want him to remove his shirt to show any body improvement... It really feels weird to have someone brag about their body this much. I mean, don't we usually find girls showing off their assets on TV a bit lame?

It is not a direct attack against Taylor, I'm sure he was asked for it, but the result was a big turn off for me.

Well, I guess I have weird ideas sometimes -like I am not impressed by actors who are soooo proud of having done their own stunts, I feel like they are braging about the wrong thing, it's their acting they should be advertizing.

margot said...

oh, god ... gotta crawl to bed it's after midnight ;((

have nice naughty Robsessed dreams, but be calm ;)))

I'm gonna start right now

@SarahBella - Welcome to our little coven! Always nice to have new blood (so to speak). ;)

I distinctly remember my 'first time' when I knew, without a doubt that I was done.

In January, shortly after seeing Twilight for the first time, and innocently discovering more about Rob...articles, videos, that he was a talented MUSICIAN!!!...I stumbled across the Variety interview. When I started watching it, I was just a very intrigued, smitten, curious observer...somewhere during the course of the interview, something happened, and by the end I knew one thing: I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

Any other first time stories out there?? Do tell... :)

Anonymous said...

They won't ask him to remove his shirt at Le Grand Journal. That would be idiotic and out of place on this program.
I hope they will ask him about Bel Ami, like "we have heard you might spend some time in Paris next year...".

CullenGal09 said...

Hi everyone! I'm just checking in to see who's on-and say hi! It's great that Rob's going to be on this show again, I hope I can catch it on youtube or otherwise on the computer. Sadly, i don't live in France. ;) I am American! I am so excited about Rob being in Cannes though. Much Rob goodness will come from it for sure.

anna F said...

@ chantalco: agreed, they would not ask that on this program (even though I have not watched it in a long time, but I don't think it's changed that much...).

something else made me think about that. I had just read how quite a few people here see major improvement in his muscles, and while I find him HOT, I don't really see the 6 pack they seem to see ^^;;;

It's very late, so good night everyone ^^

CullenGal09 said...

Does anyone know how to get your Avatar on here? I've tried to put one on, but I can't get it to work. Some help?!?

LittleBear - Thanks for clearing the "hero" title up. See how smart everyone is on this blog? We should be freakin' Wikipedia Part II here!

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Anna - I don't see it either. I'm looking though...

Yvonne said...

I remember first being intrigued by Rob during GOF, but when he became Edward....I was done. Of course, I was a "closet" Robsessor for a while, only watching the interviews when I was alone. I was embarassed....then I found Robsessed. "Hello, my name is Yvonne, and I have an addiction..."

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

CullenGal - Go to your profile, and hit "Edit Profile." There is a spot on it to add a picture. If you have a pic saved to your computer, you can browse for it. It's pretty easy after that. Let's see what you can do!!!

cullengal,

Go to your sign on page for your blogger account. It should say edit profile. Click on that and there is part where you can browsw your pictures on your computer. Try it...and let me know. I don't know if I explained it right :)

Hey, Yvonne! I've shared this story before, but when I was pointed in the direction of Twilight last October, I went online and found Rob and didn't have a clue who he was. Somewhere I read that he was Cedric in Harry Potter. I immediately thought, "Who the hell was that? I don't even remember that guy?"

(hangs head in embarassment...)

CullenGal09 said...

Hi K! Did that, but for some reason it won't show up on here.

Yvonne said...

ha ha KK!

Did you see my question earlier?

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Yvonne - What was your question?

CullenGal09 said...

How are you-"hoodie woobie"! Neat "first time" ;) Rob story.

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

CullenGal - I still don't have a flippin' clue about half the stuff people on here know about Rob.

CullenGal09 said...

I was similar. GOF caught my eye with him, but him as Edward in Twilight just did me in! Now I'm completely hooked.

Yvonne said...

I saw your new name (cute) and I was so surprised! I posted this morning on the thread where RP left Vancouver, that he had his woobie! I can't believe you used the same word :))) I was wondering if your kids used to carry one around,I never heard anyone call it that before...too funny!

@VeilsofLight I love the way you told your story, I think for many of us it was the same process:
when I first saw the clip of Twilight on youtube: I had the impression that I already knew the actor (Rob) but couldn't put a finger on it, I didn't even know the name Rob Pattinson. And I didn't recognise Kristen neither eventhough I had watched into the wild (and loved her acting on that movie) just few weeks before!

now: falling in love with Rob Pattinson:
To be honest I refused to watch interviews for a while cause I don't like knowing more about the actors, sometimes they turn to be arrogant and destroy the image of the character for me (I know it's stupid). However, one day I watched Kristen's interview and thought this girl is awesome cause she was speaking about how much she and Rob wanted to do something serious out of this project.
so I did the same for Rob and watched one video, then 2, then 3......how could I resist? funny, humble, talented, English (sorry about this one:p)and sensitive.
He may not have a six pack, or not be good for stunts but he seems to have such a beautiful soul (and all those who worked with him confirmed my impressions)
He didn't destroy Edward's image for me at all. More that he made me think he deserves to play it. Again we don't love Edward because he's hot: if he were stupid, arrogant, selfish and insensitive, we would never care. It's the same thing about Rob. *sigh*
Again I agree with AnnaF: I prefer someone who really played the piano for Bella's lulaby scene than someone who does his own stunts.

Yvonne said...

Hi Mrs. R!! How r u?

SarahBella said...

Thanks for the welcome ladies! :)

LittleBear...I have every intention of reading the entire Harry Potter series and watching all the movies. I've been meaning to for years, but I was always too far behind and don't have the time to catch up. But I do always make time for Rob.

I agree with Anna in that I don't necessarily want Rob to be running around removing his clothing (i cant believe i just said that ;). But I like it that he leaves a little to the imagination. Remember that tight, almost see-through shirt Kellan wore in a recent interview? While I can appreciate manly sexiness...I appreciate shyness and humility even more. As much as I make fun, dirty little comments about Rob, the reality is that if I ever met him, my heart would beat out my chest and I probably wouldn't even be able to look him in the face. Lol. Smooth huh? ;) But in addition to being gorgeous, he's a good guy that deserves more than being reduced to as a sex object....not that I mind him being a sex object, don't get me wrong.

Anywayz, I'll tell my first time story!! So I had no idea what Twilight was and a credible co-worker of mine suggested I first read the book and then watch the movie. Since I love reading, I did just that. And I was shocked by how much I liked the book and how much I loved Edward Cullen. When I saw the movie, I loved Rob as Edward, but wasn't initally sold on the attractiveness of Rob himself (blasphemy, I know). It wasn't until I watched several of his youtube interviews that I saw how incredibly humble and self-deprecating he is despite all the attention. That combined with the fact that he's insanely multi-talented, intelligent, articulate, and completely freakin hilarious just made me fall head over heels for him. Damn you Rob!! I'm so going to be single forever! I was already pessimistic about guys and relationships as it was....and crushing on you isn't helping me ground myself in reality! Lol!

CullenGal09 said...

Hi again ladies! Just trying out my Avi-see if this works...

tinababy1 said...

Y - When mine started reading Twilight she thought Edward was "weird" (I though thank god, she won't be attracted to possesive type)

By the end she said "If you read this and are not in love with Edward, there is something wrong with you"

NM - she cried "Edward is a jerk"

Now all is good again

lulusfolie said...

oh my god YES!!!!

Yvonne said...

riddle, well said. Rob is all of these things. This is certainly his appeal to older women. He's multifaceted, which is so unique for someone his age. He's an old soul, and the musician side of him is def. more impressive than the stunts would be :)

CullenGal09 said...

Ok-one more time-her goes-

I know my first time with Rob was when....Nah, I wish...really it was seeing the trailer of Twilight with the behind the scenes interview with him and Kris on the Twilight movie site. It was either right after SM was on the Today Show promoting her book and the movie or months later. Rob was sitting in a chair in Edwards room with Edwards clothes on. Acting so serious like he did in that new interview of HTB. His accent was sexy and he was answering thoughtfully with such insight. Then I thought, "why does he look so familiar"??? Umm,wait that's the boy from Vanity Fair. I was like "oh shit, he's in this shit". "That pretty ass son of bitch is about to be a vampire. Wha..." Then by December I thought to look up Twilight for some reason out of the blue and saw his name. I decided to Google our man and saw this site and a few others. Lurked for awhile and You Tubed him. Fell into an obsession because he was so real and too funny. I just couldn't get enough. And still can't, but I don't have to look up everything now because Goz and Dani does such a brilliant job.

SMOOCHES HOT BITCHES with Robbie's hoodie woobie on top keeping you warm and toastie. LMAO

Yvonne and Tina:

By the way, re: daughters and Twilight: My daughter is 8, and I was shocked—shocked!—that several of her female classmates (in 3rd grade) had seen the Twilight movie on DVD. My objection is not so much to the violence, which is not terribly extreme, but to the erotic kissing scene! :P

Which leads me to my personal Twilight "deflowering" experience: I had not seen Twilight at the theater—in fact, I was barely aware of its existence. I had put the DVD on my Netflix queue, mainly because I enjoy (some) vampire films. When the DVD arrived, I was in no frantic hurry to watch it; leisurely, that night, I sat upon the sofa, after Master R. and Miss R. were safely in bed.

And the moment "Edward" appeared on the screen, I slid to the edge of said sofa; I believe I actually said aloud, to my own pounding soul, "Who is THAT?"

Instantly I recognized that Rob—Rob, and not just the character—possessed an otherworldly, supremely magical quality, a first impression that has only been reinforced by my subsequent understanding of his personality, talents, and attitude toward life.

You can be sure that I continued watching the movie with an increasingly rapt attention...culminating in the kissing scene.

The terrible suspense and and longing in this kissing scene represented so much that is both painful and inspirational to me: my own memories of intense but bygone love, and the hope that I may experience those feelings, firsthand, again, though god only knows with whom.

After watching the DVD (which I wouldn't let my daughter watch until she is much older, and able to handle the implications of that kissing scene!), I bought the books and, like most others here, read through them quickly and with complete absorption.

And while my extremely analytical (and, conversely, also extremely romantic) nature will not let me avoid criticizing many aspects of both the movie and the books, I am so very grateful that all of them—and RP—and you ladies—have become positive and tangible elements in my life.

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Little hoodie woobie hearts Shani.

My first interview with Rob was the "Variety" interview. I spent the whole time thinking..."Who the f*ck is this guy? He looks like a doofus!" I heard him say, "Don't like me...I'm a dick" and I busted out laughing (many of you know my dad had just died, and I was sooooo in need of a laugh). I thought that his eyes looked way too far apart as he sat there in that long-sleeved old, white shirt. I didn't even know "Twilight" was being made into a movie (I had just read the book). I just kept thinking..."This guy is so funny and awkward." I loved how his eyebrows raised up when he was asked a surprising question.

Months later, I still think he pretty much looks like a doofus (sorry ladies, no harm intended), and I don't even know if I'd give him a second thought if I saw him in a bar (if I didn't know who he was). It's just something about his general makeup that intrigues me. I seriously want to have a conversation with this guy.

Shani said...

Damn, I forgot about the movie. Well saw it last December and like Mrs. R said it was the kissing scenes but even more for me it was the connection and that longing feeling he was showing and bringing out of Kris in those scenes at the rock and him dangling from the tree. It drew me in like a moth to a flame and got my curiousity up about what the hell was going on behind the scenes with those two.

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Shani - Funny...I never once thought there was anything going on between them in real life. Obviously they connected, but I was involved in theater for a long time and saw some amazing chemistry between actors onstage that didn't play out in real life. I was in one play where the chemistry between the couple was so hot, we all thought they'd make out onstage. In fact, they hated each other, which isn't the case with R/K. I'm glad they are so close because no one really understands the "psychotic situations" (as K has put it) they are put in like the two of them. It's got to be some great comfort.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for that link, SaraBella! I've never seen that interview before. :)

Anonymous said...

I will say, too, that after all the drooling I did in the beginning of my robsession, the first time I read this was the first time I really respected him as an actor. I still may not like the Twilight movie at all, but I really respected all of the care and intelligent thought he put into the role.

The interview is long but it is worth bookmarking if you haven't read it.

I originally thought he was gorgeous as Edward, but looked like a freakin hobo in real life! I would see him in those paparazzi shots and I was so disappointed and borderline irritated that he didn't look a THING like his character. I can definitely say that it's his personality that made me start lusting after him and completely changed the way I see him. A part of me is rational and isn't sure that I would give him a second thought if he was still an unknown actor and I had never seen any of his interviews. But he's just so freakin amazing and insanely beautiful as a PACKAGE (insert dirty thoughts;)....my opinion is officially colored now. I'm blinded by my Rob stunna shades and I'm okay with it! :)

Shani said...

KK- That Variety interview I said before was such a therapy session for him. Because SM just dissed him about not being a good botfriend. Then the interviewer asked him to compare himself to Edward. He talked about not wanting to ruin girls and how he didn't want to not be their friend, then he says to himself pointing to the air "don't like me". Suddenly a light bulb went offin his head and he was about to start giving up the goods. And that stupid ass lady cut him off to ask another dumb question. I was like "damnit so close to understanding how he ticked". Oh I was pissed. But overall it was a damn good interview.

Hi, KK!

And thank you, A./L.A.! I love you, too! ;)

Actually, I needed that—sometimes I get a bit depressed over my Robsession. I begin to wonder if I am wasting time, mooning over someone I most assuredly will never meet.

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

A/L.A. Thanks for posting that link. It's been awhile since I read that interview. It is one of my favorites!!!!

Haven't really read all the comments, but I noticed mentionof Cedric. I finally watched it on DVD this Saturday and I was ashamed of myself. I thought he was hot and doable. I've gone off the deep end with this Rob obsession. So I understand about Cedric.. wink!

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Mrs. R. Yeah, we'll probably never meet him (never say never - I've learned the hard way with that one). But since I'll never go to a promotion or anything like that (just isn't me...), probably never is close enough.

I did take some pics this weekend for my avatar ala your avatar - by the window highlighting my "Hobbit - aka Elijah Wood" green peepers. That's what all my friends call them. Would you like to see?

Anonymous said...

WinWin-- let's put that in the "Future Projects Speculation" pile and forget about it for now. No way someone can make a movie with the line "You sunk my battleship!" and not hear a collective groan across the universe. (right?)

WinWin said...

A/la, thanks for the article. I totally missed that one.

Do share!

Shani said...

SB- His personality kills. And what killed me last year was when so many haters kept talking about his hobo apperance, him looking dirty, he needs to take a shower, and his fugly why do people like this guy. It was just stupidity and ignorance galore. I was like BITCHES y'all are on the internet, but you don't know how to Google or YouTube???

WinWin said...

A/LA, I thought the Battleship thing was a joke. But then they mentioned Rob in naval suit. Yummy! Then I shook my head and wiped it from my memory.

Mrs. R. - So here I am...I hate pics of me...always. I get the big nose from the Roman blood in me and the big eyes from the rest of the Italians I'm related to. BTW - I found out I have sanpaku eyes last week, told my mom about it and realized she has them too! She was like, "Oh, people have told me I have sanpaku eyes forever." News to me!!

SarahBella said...

A/L.A....thanks for the link. Great article. He's so intelligent and insightful. I hope that he gets a chance to go to college at a later point in his life. He seems to be a little whistful about the fact that he didn't go, and a I think he would really thrive in that type of environment....in addition to the ones he's currently thriving in ;)

Anywayz, I'm off. Back to real life!

A/L.A. Fabulous interview!!! Just go to YouTube and search for "Variety interview Rob Pattinson" and it will pop up.

Shani said...

A/LA- Yeah I read and loved that Rolling Stone interview too.

Shani-- I remember when I publicly admitted my attraction to Rob. My girlfriends and I were watching the Oscars/red carpet arrivals, and when Rob showed up, I managed not to squee aloud.

"I think he's so hot." I said.

"Really?" - Friend #1

"You mean the Wolfman looking guy?"- Friend #2

"Haha, yeah, he looks like a Wolfman!" - Friend #1

I shut my trap after that.

A/LA- Or just go to Variety.com and search Robert Pattinson or Twilight.

SarahBella said...

Lol! I heard that Shani! Even when I had my own misgivings about his appearance, I thought it was pretty cruel that people were talking about his grooming habits and starting rumors about him SMELLING! It's hard for me to even repeat that. I was like, "WTF?!" This is a human being and this stuff gets back to him...that's not okay to say about anyone! But haters will always hate. And you know what they say, if you have that many haters...you're obviously doing something right! ;)

Is the French show Tuesday or Wednesday night French time, and 7pm?
I'm trying to work out how that converts to Aussie time, I think it's 3am the next morning here.

Mrs. Robinsane said...

Oh, great.

I just read the Rolling Stone interview (for the first time), and now I don't know what to think. I mean, I know this site is called Robsessed, but did RP refer to his fans as obsessed (and yet unexpectedly logical), in a derisive way? And even worse, I fall into the quaint "Mom" fan category as well.

*bit of depression ballooning into major depression*

re: leaked movie poster

This reminds me of how much I disliked the character of Jacob in the books. Grr.

Thanks for posting that, grobansmorena7!

Shani said...

A/LA- Yeah, I do have to say that him with to much hair on his face makes him look old and really bad. The best scruff was those pics with him and Kris I think in Italy. That profile shot with the camera looking up towards his face. Yes, Lordy!!

New Moon possible posters have been being leaked since the beginning of March. What does this one look like?

...wowie! said...

A/L.A...I hafta agree with you. I get that he was there for her but the way he was...made me not like him. Dunno if it was bc he was acting like he had a "claim" to her. ::sigh:: Good stuff!!!

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Mrs. R. - I don't think he meant it derisively. There are those fans that are truly obsessive (bite my baby, bite me, I scratched my neck to bleed for you, hey can I interrupt you while you're trying to eat dinner), but Rob has talked too fondly about his fans for me to believe he doesn't know that some of his fans are really cool. As far as TwiMoms go...I'm technically a TwiMom because I'm over the age of 25 (stupid criterion).

Don't sweat it. As far as older women go, Rob has expressed several times that he finds them attractive. I don't believe he likes kids, though...not because of what he said on the "Twilight" set, but he's said other things and I read an interview with a TwiMom onset who said when she asked him, he said he doesn't like them. Then again, he was only 22 when asked.

Do not be depressed. Rob loves you. He just doesn't know it yet! :)

Hi wowie!

Jacob was always fine with me until whatever book where he kisses Bella. He forced himself on her, and ignored her saying no, hitting him, and trying to pull away. That infuriated me. After that- Jacob- dead to me. With hate.

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

I sooo meant on set, not onset. Oh boy...I've been on here way too much today...

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

A/L.A. - There is a chapter in the ff "Cullenary Coupling" where Edward gives Jacob a big slamdown. It is hysterical and well-deserved. One of the better ff chappies I've read dealing with Jacob.

KK- I buy this as a leaked poster. It's a promo shot we have never seen before, and it looks like it was done by one of the key art companies here.

I've seen loads of those fan made posters, and I can always tell (my training is in design, so I know good PS work and good design when I see it, and I'm not trying to be elitist about it).

Shani said...

SB- Yep, The haters only make you stronger and wanting to prove those bitches wrong. And RP proved those haters wrong from highschool that bullied him by becoming this major international star, then he proved his star quality when he was the only one from Twilight to get invited to the Oscars, and now look at him representing all the way in France. Playing with the big dogs. Ruff Ruff!!! RP's in da house bitches!!!LOL

Holy cow! About a hundred posts since I posed the 'first time' question! Such thoughtful responses... (Mrs. Robinsane!)This site is turning into a veritable literary, Roblicious smorgasbord. :)

I'm glad I'm not the only wierdo who fell head over heels in love with the orgasm-inducing Variety interview.

Damn that man. And Mrs. R, you are NOT wasting time, and will most assuredly meet Mr. P someday. Certainly there are more difficult goals to attain, and I'm sure he'll find himself in your neck of the woods someday.

I have delusional fantasies about actually working with him someday, so consider your meet and greet goal comparatively attainable.

Hafta say, you ladies rock, this site and the people on it seriously get better and better as the months go on.

Little Ashes here Friday and crossing my fingers for tix tomorrow when they go on sale. Don't think I could bear to miss the sex scenes, ugh.

Have fun in Cannes, baby doll, not TOO jealous of those hangin' with ya there. I'll try not to throw myself out the office window tomorrow as I envision the beautiful people in their French designer gowns sitting on your lap with champagne cocktails.

P.S. Shani, you are cracking me up over here with your posts, girl. :)

I just have to say that I owe Rob for my Twilight Obsession. I've liked him since he caught my eye in HP.
I saw a teaser last spring and thought oh wow it's him. I have to see what this movie is.So I looked up the books and devoured them. I've been crazy in love with the series and even more so enamored with Rob. There were so many interviews.
The most indearing thing for me is that he is what he is...scruffy , frugal, humble,talanted...I could go on.It just makes him all the more sexy.

KK;

Well, I feel a tiny bit better, I guess.

*sniffle*

Not to be too deadly serious...but on a thread the other day, I mentioned to Yvonne (during a discussion of tattoos) that I have a tattoo which is the signature of my brother, from the day he died.

With absolutely no forewarning, I lost my only sibling—my droll, artistic J.—to suicide, when he was just 23, and I was 22.

The signature for my tattoo is from a driver's license which he obtained that day (since he was not in his home state), as a prerequisite for buying a gun.

I mention all of this, because, outside of my miniscule "inner circle," this Robsession is truly the first time, in all of these intervening years, that I have let myself enjoy something that could be perceived as frivolous, and so unlikely to bear any real fruit—the first time I have let myself just enjoy something without question, without guilt, without castigating myself for putting down, for even a moment, the unfathomable weight of my brother's desperate soul.

And now I am beginning to question the futility, the folly of my happy Robsession....

*tears for my J.*

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

I've shared this story, but I'll share it again. If you'd heard it...ignore.

Last year in October, my father was dying. It was a living hell for me as he meant everything to me. My best bud was up visiting and gave me a copy of Twilight while at the hospital to try to take my mind off some of the horror I was experiencing.

After I read the book, I mentioned it to some of my younger students (I teach high school and college) and my 14-year-old niece and was given the link to the "Variety" interview. I watched it at about 2:00am one morning after my dad died because I couldn't sleep at all.

He made me laugh. There was nothing to laugh at during this time, but he made me laugh, and I didn't even know who he was. Rob and I spent many late nights together as I searched for, and watched many more interviews on YouTube. I've called it a bonding experience for me.

Late last year, I gave my advanced writing students an assignment to write a letter of gratitude to someone (they would have to give or send it if possible). While writing with them in class, I started a letter to Rob telling him of my experience and thanking him with my whole heart. I refused to send it, and my students freaked (why should we when you won't? type of deal). They were right, and I sent it. I have no idea if he'll ever read it (I think he will), but I just needed him to know the difference he made for me in the darkest time of my life. I will remain loyal to him for this reason alone.

Whew.

Shani said...

Damn I forgot the word "know". So okay I got a few braincells back. LOL

VeilsofLight said...

A/L.A. - Love ya! I needed to hear that! I am actually feeling confident about jumping back into the acting world for the second time, just a tad daunting sometimes.

I can't wait to hear how you do!

Can you IMAGINE auditioning with him?? Holy cow. Talk about needing to quickly feel centered. :) :)

And I was JUST going to say that RPaddict's Avatar is totally orgasmic inducing. Wow, sweet. And torturous. Kill me now.

KK (she who maintains decorum) said...

Mrs. R. Not everything in life has to bear fruit. There are not enough things that make us feel sheer joy, and we must hold onto those we do find. There is Rob, yes, but you've also connected to a lot of compassionate, entertaining, intelligent ladies her on this blog, and perhaps that is one of the reasons you discovered Rob...to end up here.

I don't look at my endearment to Rob as futile; rather, I embrace that his mere presence in the world brings me a lightness, a bit of laughter and hope that there are some people in existence that really are amazing and influential and lovely and just so real.

Mrs. R. Reading what I wrote, I would have to say my attachment to Rob has borne very sweet fruit, indeed.

Anonymous said...

Mrs. R,

I think you have overlooked something. This enjoyment of Rob, his work, his beauty, intelligence, wit, charm, and humor, and of this site (and of US, dammit), have borne you fruit. The joy is the reward. Isn't the point of life to be happy, to find love in yourself to share, and in others, and to celebrate that?

I am sorry that your brother chose the path he did, and for the pain it caused you. But remember that you are still lucky everyday, to be enjoying the amazingness of being alive.

Never feel guilty or down about being your age and liking someone younger. We're all old souls, anyway.

I didn't loose anyone, but having the stress of life and then going to watch his interviews were so uplifting for me last year. He was so freaking funny and he doesn't even mean to be.

Thanks about the avitar. There are sooo many great pics to choose from.
It's wierd that we all have some pretty hefty life situations that our Rosession helped us deal with.
Mine was being diagnosed with PCOS and not having a good chance at having a family. I had the baby blues really bad,Rob and Twilight really helps with the dis traction. I also started lurking on this blog.So I owe a thanks to all of you and Gozde, and Dani.

Mrs. R. - For some reason, I am compelled to include this Frost poem for you now...

The Rose Family

The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But now the theory goes
That the apple's a rose,
And the pear is, and so's
The plum, I suppose.
The dear only knows
What will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose
But were always a rose.

Oh boy...the English prof is starting to rear her ugly face...

VeilsofLight said...

Hi Kelly! KK and Mrs. R, thank you for sharing your stories. And KK, that's beautiful what you said about it being enough to find sheer joy in something.

A male friend of mine who knows I come here thinks this 'obsession' is a bit wierd, but I tell him although the Rob attraction is what started it all, it's turned into just as much a reason to simply connect with other like-minded women and share stories.

Life is so short and we should find pleasure in whatever escapes we can. Hell, if our damn men can act like school boys obsessing over the NFL draft picks, then certainly this little hobby is tame in comparison.

;)

And A/LA...you are so right, we ARE all old souls. :)
