I'm excited today...DH & I are going to the Burbank film festival and will be seeing "How to Be" tonight with a chat with the director afterwards. I had to cut a deal with DH that we would go to this expensive Indian restaurant in Burbank in trade for the screening. He likes Rob but, well...you know...nothing like me!
I'm quite sad that Rob won't be in town for the Kid awards and therefore no chance of stopping by the screening...but I do understand the reasoning.
I think the days of Rob doing every single interview request and attending every awards show are over, sorry to say. I believe he wants his life back. Can't blame him. I don't think fame is his goal.
I think I will tell the director about this site (sure GOZ) which has been so supportive of "How to Be," and our dear Rob.

Uh, Shani, as someone once said "why do you believe the lie and not the truth?" The point is a lot of contradictory things are printed and it's not always possible to tell fact from fiction. It doesn't make a lot of sense to get all upset over one side or the other. Rob's greatest defense in all this madness is his ability to muddy the waters himself. He'll say perfectly contradictory things, especially to gullible reporters, in such a disarming way that you're not sure what to believe. I suppose Edward would call it "dazzling," but for Rob it's self-defense - keep them off-balance, confused and utterly charmed. I, for one, am happy to stay that way.
Yes, I don't pick apart everything that Rob says. I say contradictory things in certain situations because I'm bored, I'm just not thinking about everything coming out of my mouth or I'm trying to be funny. I don't think he's the type to purposefully mislead people; rather, I think he's got a good sense of humor. I'm not even sure when this interview was done. Plus, he admits still getting nervous when doing interviews, so this probably leads to the "blurting out" of all kinds of things...whatever comes into his mind at that moment.

Or, do you also deal with sexism, pay inequity, etc. Here in the US we have the NLRB (National Labor Relations Board)and ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union). You might be interested in a famous case involving a friend of mine who is transgender and was hired to work at the US Library of Congress and then declined. You will find it on the ACLU website.

I totally understand why Rob looks for the negative comments online. I collect evaluations for my trainings and my college classes and plow right past all the positive comments looking for the negative ones. No matter how many comments say, "You were the best!" the only ones that stick and seem to matter are the few that are negative. Those are the ones we tend to focus the most energy on.

Ahem, well, I was "working" and waiting for Tom. Of course he was asleep in Portugal so I played some Spanish guitar and I decided to watch the sunrise. Had a hard time staying awake yesterday, that's for sure.

Crazy, et al, you are some cool Robkats that's for sure. Yeah, I love Spanish guitar also. Been playing since I was 10 and studied under a student of Andre Segovia's while in school. That's what I do when I'm feeling particularly mellow. Good therapy.

I had to leave today after making my comments this morning, but I would like to address one comment in particular to Twiheart...
First of all, hi, Twiheart! I think you misunderstood my post about negative comments by students and trainees. All good profs and trainers look for constructive criticism when we get evaluations. We are constantly trying to improve our delivery to meet the needs of those attending. What can be hurtful are non-constructive comments (and we get them a lot!)that are just meant to be mean. As confident as some of us are, we're also human and, therefore, these comments can bug us once in a while and stick in our minds. I know...sticks and stones...
There are a lot of tremedously mean comments directed at Rob on the net...stupid things about his looks, etc. They are not meant to be constructive, simply mean. Sometimes when some people think negatively about certain aspects of themselves(Rob has admitted to doing so many times) they can look for things to substantiate what they already think.
I agree that Rob probably laughs most of the comments off, but I bet once in awhile, one or two stick in his gut. He's toughening up already and will eventually stop reading all comments completely and rely on people he knows and trusts for criticisms.
